I'm about to play my friend who is a Black Templar and he is planning on taking the vow that gives a 6+ invulnerable while also allowing his troops to ignore pinning.

If I fire my whirlwind at his BT and cause a casualty would he still have to take a morale check (-1 one modifier for coming under fire via barrage ordinance weapons), AND would he have to fall back if he failed that roll?  I  know barrage weapons force a morale or leadership check after suffering a casualty, AND they can cause pinning.  If the BT ignore pinning do they ignore the results of the morale check as well or do they fall back?

He would still take a moral check as normal yes. With their Righteous Zeal rule however, if he passed the test then the unit would make a D6 move towards the closest enemy unit. Failing it would have the unit fall back as normal. As you stated, due to the vow he took, he would not have to worry about pinning.

Okay I felt that might be the way it worked but I don't have my BGB with me. Thanks for the quick reply

Ok, the morale test that anyone takes upon recieving a unsaved wound from a barrage weapon is a pinning check. Since that vow makes BT's immune to pinning, they would only take a morale test if they suffered sufficient casualties to cause the check as per normal. At that point, the RZ rules would kick in.

Which would be that if he loses one member he takes a check (-1 as a modifier for coming under fire from barrage ordinance) and if he passes move up d6 inches if he fails move back 2d6 inches.
