So, after stopping by my FLGS since being out of the game for roughly 2 years, I saw the new Eldar Codex and was very impressed plus they made Dire Avengers, an aspect I was dying to use when I used to play, worthwhile. I also wanted to field Asurmen, another model which I really like. Here's my attempt at an 1850 Dire Avenger Themed Eldar list, comments would be appreciated.

HQ:

Asurmen

Troops:

10 DIre Avengers, Exarch w/ SS & PW
Wave Serpent w/ BrightLances, SCannon, Spirit Stones, vectored engines

10 Dire Avengers, Exarch w/ Twin SC, Bladestorm
Wave Serpent w/ BL, SCannon, Spirit Stones, vectored engines

ELites:

6x fire Dragons

5x Scorpions, 1x Exarch w/ Scorpions Claw

Fast

5x Hawks, 1x Exarch w/ intercpt, sky leap, hawks talon
Heavy Support:

2x Falcon w/Spirit Stone, Vectored Engines, Holofield, Starcannon, Shuriken Cannon

1 Vibro Cannon

Total Points: 1746

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. With an impending auction on the horizon mankind holds its breath as it waits to see who will gain possession of the corpse-god and thus, the fate of humanity......

What do the Falcons transport?

I'd either drop a couple DA squads to 6 men to carry them in the Falcon, or swap out the Falcons for Fire Prisms.

The list is frighteningly light on AT. Two BS3 pulse lasers and two TL BS3 BLs are so not going to cut it at this points size. On the opposite side of the spectrum, you have an excess of starcannons, which are no longer the swiss army knife of the Eldar 'dex. Let them go.

Not using all your HS slots is a waste. If I had one left over, I would spend it on a single vibrocannon, to give you a good and cheap anti-Monolith/skimmer weapon.

Your vehicle upgrades are a little whacked. Why do you need star engines on all your WSs? Maybe you could explain. On the flip side, are you sure those WSs don't need vectored engines, and your Falcons don't need holofields? Unless you plan on fighting a lot of, I dunno, all-grot armies, this sort of configuration is just asking to lose Falcons and WSs like there's no tomorrow (and there might not be for your warriors).

This list is seriously weak. For all the reasons listed above, plus the fact that you're using Falcons at all. Falcons are good for one thing--getting the Eldar's hardest-hitting infantry to the target intact. If you're not using their transport capacity, switch to Fire Prisms with holofields. I'm surprised you wouldn't have been dying to use the Prisms as well, with all their nifty new upgrades and their mediocre spot in the last 'dex...

I disagree with the Starcannon comment, though. They're still very useful to have around and still beat any low-ap alternative in any other army. It's just that now you pay for them, which means you need to use them wisely. With all the anti-infantry from the Avengers, the Starcannons will see plenty of use against the enemy's tough targets.

Ba-zziiing!

Starcannons are viable. Starcannons when you need BLs and EMLs are not.

Thanks for the comments, list is edited. The idea was that the star engines would get me where I need to be quicker but in retorspect are not necessary. Also, when I stopped palying 1850 seemed to be the prevalent point level but it seems that 1750 is now so I'm reducing the list to those points. I edited my ist to be a more "aspect warrior" themed list rather than a Dire avengers theme list. I now have 64 points left.
Also, what do you think about dropping asurmen and taking an Autarch instead? This will still let me field the Asurmen model, but it will give me roughly 200 points...

I think Asurmen is an okay choice. He is a little pricey, but without him, you'd have spent 30 points on the Exarch powers anyway, so his real cost is 200, which is acceptable for what you get.

What is the first Exarch equipped with? You said SS and SP, but I guess you mean SS and PW?

Chainsabres are the worst Exarch weapon in the Eldar armoury bar none (well, maybe the Dark Reaper shuricannon). Against MEqs, the chainsabres Exarch will kill less than 1 on average when charging, hardly much better than with his standard chainsword. It's good against GEqs, okay, but do Scorpions really need the help there? If you're taking Scorpions, go for the hidden fist, or you're better off with Harlequins. (Actually, you're probably still better off with Harlequins, but they're so common now, and at least the Scorpions are cheaper.)

You have a free HS slot, which, as mentioned, is a waste. I know it will seem weird to have a single static element in an otherwise mech army, but it is seriously worth scraping up 100 points for a pair of vibrocannons in a battery. It should usually be possible to set up such that they will never need to move to take a shot, and when you end up facing a Monolith or another skimmer army, you'll find it's the best 100 points you ever spent. It does look like you won't be able to find the points for this anywhere, though, in which case it's just too bad.

You have a free HQ slot, which is also a waste. An Autarch is relatively inexpensive and will give you a massive advantage in Escalation. You could get a 90 pt one with mandiblasters and PW (10 pt fusion gun optional) and put him with the Scorpions after dropping one, or, and this may be a little unfluffy, get a 95 pt one with reaper launcher, deploy him on a hill by himself and just make sure he's never the closest target. A BS5 untargettable reaper launcher is pretty sweet.

ALl right, list revised above. Thanks again for the input. I switched the sabres for the claw on the scorpion and I added a single vibro cannon with my last 50 points. I think this wil be a good starting point, I'll see how I like running Asurmen and go from there. ANy other ideas?

You may find a single v-cannon a little underwhelming due to missing half the time, which is why I changed my recommendation to two. Still, try it out and see. I think the list is decently strong at this point.
