Heya guys! I am having a mild problem.

I have designed a 1500pt army list for an upcoming rtt. However, i am 187 points short, so, a lil help?

heres the list:

HQ:

Eldrad - 210

Elites:

5 Harlies + Shadowseer (all kisses) - 162

6 Fire Dragons - 96

Troops:

3 X 5 Pathfinders - 120 per unit

Heavy Support:

2 X Falcon+Shuri Cannon+Stones+Holo - 165 per unit

Lord+BL+EML+flamers - 155

So my current ideas are, Autarch+Reaper Launcher for 95pts (can he fire the launcher if he's on a bike?) Or, i could take a unit of Spears.

here's the rules pack for the events http://www.wargamesemporium.co.uk/40k_Rule_Pack.doc

It doesn't say which missions will be played, merely that they will be chosen at random, so i guess it will be roll d6 for the mission, and then d3 for the level.

Cheers!!!

Yes, an Autarch on jetbike can move & fire a reaper launcher.
Standard build = Autarch, Reaper, Lance, Mandiblasters, Jetbike = 155 pts

kk, y mandiblasers and not a mask? also, do you think thats my best option, because i think im a bit low on the AT stuff???

Mandiblasters get you an additional attack. Banshee mask lets you attack first on turn of charge... you're already Init 6!

Other very conceivable option would be an Avatar - with Eldrad Fortuning him each turn, he's a beast.

hmmm, i did consider the Avatar... at 155 he is damned good, especially with Eldrad, but as 1/3 games will have escalation, i think the Autarch is needed, but again, the Avatar adds another model that really needs AT on him, and can kill vehicles (if i keep my army tight together, making Dreads etc come into his range)... but i really like the idea of an Autarch popping outta cover, firing his reaper launcher, and running away again...

I hope there are no soft scores at this RTT for your sake!

This list won't make you any friends. Adding an Avatar is just about the only way to make it worse (i.e. more gimmicky).

That said, I do see a severe weakness that the Avatar would help mitigate: rushing. An enemy that rushes you (like tyranids with rending) will make a joke out of everything but the Falcons. You have nothing to deter the enemy from getting close, which means your Falcons could be at risk against a smart opponent with a mobile army.

The list is so lacking in diversity, it's really rather easy to counter.

well, in that case, please suggest what to do! all you seem to have said in your post, is heres a problem, but i aint helping you.

Sorry if that sounds angry, it isn't meant to be, just if you see a problem, suggest a possible fix please, and i am happy to drop one squad of the pathfinders to free up another 120pts...

I find it difficult to comment on this list, since I run pretty much this exact list, only with Guardians instead of Pathfinders (and with an Avatar). If I told you what I thought would make it "better", I'd just be telling you to use my list!

That said, you'd probably be best off just adding that Avatar and calling it a day. The Autarch is also a good choice, but I think the Avatar is still better. Master Strategist is a huge help in Escalation, granted, but since every other army manages to get by without such help, I think it may be wiser to build for an all-around stronger list rather than one which gets an advantage in a particular scenario. Maybe that's just me, though.

What is it you're more concerned about 01777, your soft-scores (comp + sports) or are you just going for highest battle points?

I haven't read the rule pack you posted, but it's important to know if they'll be using missions from the back of the rulebook or if they're making up missions with completely new objectives.

Also, not only are you currently weak (i.e. nearly defenseless) against an assault-oriented opponent (harlequins only go so far), but you lack adequate anti-tank seeing as though the Falcons only have Pulse Lasers and will often be shaken--I run a Wraithlord just like yours but it's only reliable to kill one or two vehicles in a game, and often not quickly.

I don't understand, you say all this AND tell him to kiss his soft scores goodbye?  Personally, I'm not impressed with rangers/pathfinders.  They're just not much good against anything other than MCs.  I'll admit I haven't played an army that looks like this, but I don't think I'd have too tough a time with it.

I may have overstated the point originally.

This doesn't change the fact that your average opponent will be pi$$ed off to face this list. It's the unit choices--they're lacking any originality.

Eldrad is a powerhouse, and present in almost every tournament Eldar list.

Pathfinders can get a cover save of 2+. Most armies are not well-equipped to deal with this, and they make for a troop choice that's nearly as frustrating as Falcons to deal with.

Falcons. Two of them, carrying Fire Dragons and Harlies. Unoriginal yet effective.

Maxxed out heavy support.

To put it simply--while fairly powerful, the list is lopsided and incredibly frustrating to play against. It is not difficult to see this list being described by some as "broken" or "cheesy." It's not as bad as it could be at 1500 points, but it's riding the edge. Everyone is tired of seeing Falcons by now.

To sum it up, if soft scores are involved, don't expect to score very high. That's all. If he wants to max out his battle points, then the list should still change, although it will become even more of a carbon-copy Eldar list.
