Not that I really want to leave Dakka, but I was wondering if there are any other decent GW based forums out there? My minimal seaching has lead me to places like the official GW forums (of which I even now try to repress the memories of), bolter and chainsword (hahaha), portant (dead now), and warseer. Anyone know other places that are worth visiting and posting at?

I wish I did. I used to be a mod at Chromiates, but that's long gone.
The trouble with Warseer is the S/N ratio, and the lack of community (it's too big to get to know people).

Go to warvault.net and there are a whole list of 40K and Warhammer related sites and forums. Several are specialized, but you should be able to find something that meets your tastes. I like Work In Progress and Eastern Fringe in particular.

Posted By Phoenix on 07/13/2007 11:12 AM S/N ratio? What's that? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Signal-to-noise_ratio#Informal_use In online discussion forums such as Usenet, off-topic posts and spam are regarded as "noise" that interferes with the "signal" of appropriate discussion. Another example is Bugzilla, where "please fix this" comments clutter up the discussion without helping to solve the bug. [1] A system of moderation may improve the SNR by filtering out irrelevant posts.

For modeling Work in Progress owns us all http://s11.invisionfree.com/Work_In_Progress/index.php?act=idx I will put in a good word for the Warmongers Club, good tactics, good thoughts, they play tested for GW for a while, one member just WROTE and Origins-award-winning suppliment for WH Historicals, good sense of humor http://p076.ezboard.com/bwarmongerboard but since it's a physical club there is a big split between people they've met in the real world and everyone else.

"I went into a hobby-shop to play m'self a game,
The 'ouse Guru 'e up an' sez "The Guard is weak and lame!"
The Chaos gits around the shelves they laughed and snickered in my face,
I outs into the street again an' grabbed my figure-case."
Oh it's "Angels this" an' "Space-wolves that", and "Guardsmen, go away!";
But it's "Thank you for the ordnance" when the Guard begins to play,
O it's "LOOK AT ALL THE ORDNANCE!" when the Guard begins to play.."

The warhammer forum (for british people), WargamerAU (australian forum with awesome off topic discussions), Librarium Online (a ghost of what it used to be, still big though), for fantasy, Druchii.net is pretty big. 40konline is great if you play eldar (or dark eldar), advancedtautactica is great if you play tau. There's always warhammer irc as well. #warhammerfun on gamesurge, and #warhammer or #warhammer40k on quakenet.

I really like the marine painter they have at the bolter and chainsword. It's giving me some ideas how I want to paint my marine army without having to bother with real miniatures and paints until I'm ready to start in earnest.
