This topic was sparked by the complaints about no plastic Warboss and so on.

It got me to thinking which army has the best availability of plastic models. I guess Tau who have the following.

Commander -- Battlesuit (includes some optional metal bitz)
Elites -- Battlesuits and Stealthsuits
Troops -- Fire Worriers and Kroot
Transport -- Devilfish
Fast Attack -- Piranha, Gun Drones [Pathfinders can be made by adapting Fire Worriers]
Heavy Support -- Hammerhead and Skyray, Broadside (includes some metal bitz)

The metal models are:

All the different Ethereals including Space Pope
Shadowsun
Vespids
Sniper Drones
Pathfinders (but can be made from plastic Fire Worriers)
Some bitz for the Broadside suits and Commander

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

SSSSSSSSSSSSSPPPPPPPPPPPPAAAAAAACE MARINES!
Hurr!!!

Commander - Plastic
Chaplain - Metal
Librarian - Metal (could be converted from plastic kits)

Techmarines - Metal
Servitors - Metal
Terminators (assault & otherwise) - Plastic
Dread - Plastic
Veterans - Metal (could be converted from Plastic kits and/or plastic sprues from other chapters)

Tactical Marines - Plastic
Scouts (Sniper & Regular) - Plastic
Rhinos & Razorbacks - Plastic

Assault Marines - Plastic
Bikes - Plastic
Assault Bikes - Plastic
Landspeeders (now all variants) - Plastic
Scout Bikes - No model, conversion required, but could be all plastic.

Predators - Plastic
Whirlwinds - Plastic
Vindicators - Plastic
Land Raider - Plastic
Land Raider Crusader - Plastic w/ Metal Bits

Out of every option in the codex only the special characters and Librarians and Chaplains are Metal. You have two Elite Models still in metal, one of which can be converted from plastics. All of Fast attack is now plastic and the only metal in Heavy Support is now just the few bits left on the LRC.

Vanilla marines win this contest hands down man.

Insaniak (to name one modeler) has done an impressive job converting up librarians from plastics, and I know I've seen a few plastic chappies out there. There's no reason you couldn't pound out a marine army 100% in plastic these days, or 95% if you want some metal bling added in for style.

Now which army has the least plastic? My immediate reaction is Witch Hunters - even Grey Knights can conceivably be made from plastic marines, but pretty much nothing really aproximates Sisters with any success.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Necrons.

Most builds have one metal miniature, the lord, maybe two or three at most if the take Tomb spiders or a C'tan.

The oter plastics are largely unwanted: Pariahs and wraiths.

Edit - Dont post rapidly while half asleep. Should read The other metals are largely unwanted: Pariahs and wraiths.

Point taken on the worthiness of Immortals, but most lists I see drop them in favour of more Warriors and Destroyers.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

Huh? Both Pariahs and Wraiths are metal...

Warriors (and scarab swarms, which come on the warrior sprue), Destroyers and the Monolth are all plastic.

heavy destroyers are plastic with the gun being metal and and extra metal spine (for some reason). Destroyer lords are also plastic/metal mixed models.

Immortals, Pariahs, Wraiths, Spiders, Lords on foot and the C'tan are all metal (and exorbitant...).

Orlanth, if not for the fact that Immortals are metal and cost about as much as the rest of the army combined,* I'm sure "most builds" would have a lot more than one metal model in them.

*exaggeration for effect

When did they discontinue the scout marine bikes? Those were the same plastic bikes but with metal riders and extra bitz.

Any of the non-Catachan/Cadian Guard Armies.

Everything but the tanks in metal.

Yeah but most if it is plastic anyway, esp with the plastic Heavy Weapons. I wish they would make a doo-dad sprue for guard to make officers and vets.

I think Guard and Marines are the easiest armies to make a full army if you don't like metal. Other than Necrons which are just Necrons.

Personally I wish Eldar had gotten plastic Scorpions, Banshees, Fire Dragons and Harlequins but I guess it just wasn't to be. They would have had to be boxes of 6 or 5/10 anyway, they probably figured to hell with it.

"Most" plastic? It has to be high model count armies (gaunts, guardsmen, orks). Highest percentage I'd say there are a few options, my choice would be termies. I think you already know my opinion on 100% plastic though (wouldn't be an issue for termies, marines, Cadians etc, 'cos all their plastics rock).
