I'm painting an Imperial Fist army and I was wonder what color schemes different ranks and positions used. Do sergeants and veterans both use yellow helmets, or are they red and white, respectively, like Ultras? What about devastator and assault squads?

The biggest difference in their appearance is that Imperial Fist veterans wear a red stripe on their helmets, as opposed to the standard white used by the Ultramarines and other Codex Chapters. They are also covered in large numbers of purity seals.

There's an Australian WD that has more detail on the yellow with black scheme... I think it's 260 or so.

Actually, the Ultramarines do use red for all their Sergeants. The white is for anyone with Terminator Honours and is there to commemorate the sacrifice of the 1st Comapny during Hive Fleet Behemoth.

So if you see an Ultramarine with a red helmet that has a white stripe, he's a Veteran Sergeant.

I beg to differ - Ultramarine Sergeants have an entire red helmet... not a red stripe. If they have a white laurel, then they are Veteran Sergeants. Ultramarine Veteran Space Marines have either the standard blue helmet with a white laurel or a white helmet with a blue laurel... so sayeth the Space Marine Codex.

Thanks for the help. Just to clarify then, veterans have yellow helmets with red stripes and sergeants have all red helmets?

As I recall from that Withe Dwarf article, yes - however, I've seen plenty of armies on the net where they all follow the exact same scheme... ie vets and Sgts using all-yellow helmets.

I didn't say that. Helps to read what I write.

This seems pointless since it's right there, but you did write "red helmet that has a white stripe, he's a Veteran Sergeant."

I made the correction later on that they do not use stripes of any color, which according to the Codex they do not. The question was if Imperial Fists do - which they do. No reason to be abrasive.
