OK folks... here is the plan, everyone must dip a single model... use 3 to 4 colors, we don't want to accidently win right, and enter that bad mofo into the single miniature catagory in your local GD!!! As it insights riots at just the thought of such an atrocity, I think it needs to be done. I have nearly done it in the past years just to prove a point... that point being, the model will not explode into flames when sat in the pressence of a "standard" painted model... it really won't.

So... rummage through your stuff. Grab that unpainted gaunt, toss some colors on him, dip that mofo and prepare yourself for war! Don't forget to base him nice and neat like... Don't want to get disqualified...

Yeah, I have to admit I got that feeling too.

...I honestly intended to just be sarcastic and wanted to see some dipped stuff. I know lots of people who are really really really opposed to dipped, yet they have not one painted army and been in the hobby for years... I suppose that is the fuel for the fire.

Again, I just want to see some pics after reading the other dipping post.

People flat out saying they would break your arm over dipped miniatures. Insanity! And those figs look ACE by the way!

I think it would be much cooler if someone dipped a mini, then gave it the full GD treatment and actually placed.

@Theblklotus, have you considered "dipping" for pay? I would definitely pay you for dipping my models. I have a Skaven army to paint up soon and I love the look of your dipped Necrons.

I have never tried dipping and somehow it knida intimidates me.

Mine are what I would call a dipped hybrid. I paint, dip, then wash, then highlight. It is time saving... but its still grinding getting them done. If I could find something to base more efficiently I would be so much faster!

I think the key to really getting stuff done is with using a spraypaint base color. That saves SO MUCH TIME.

As for what dipped skaven look like... I sold this for $800 a few weeks back. ALL DIPPED.

Dude, the WHOLE point of dipping is that you can get a great look with "minimal" effort! Try dipping yourself, you'll get a kick from it, and you'll save some money! Hell, you might even get paid for dipping someone elses army

And just IMHO, I cannot for the life of me see any 'chip' on anyones shoulders (I wear high collard shirts lol )
I thought it was a great idea for a thread Blklotus. I will try my hand at dipping this weekend.

The bases on that army really hurt it. WHy not just cover in sand, paint it a light colour, and then inkwask? I like the Necrons btw.

Yeah Jazz, for some really impressive figs, the bases are way short of the mark. Army looks fab though.

The buyer can paint the bases however they want! Usually when you sell an army you leave the bases unfinished so that the buyer can make them match whatever he/she already has.

Yup, built it and sold it... 200 models with basing done by "new owner"... Great Success! AND... since its fantasy and each model is just a wound counter... blah.

... I would not have done it if i was using the army... I had about 500$ into it... for about 1000$ of actual stuff and I got 800$ so I am happy. I REALLY REALLY do not enjoy fantasy anymore so the army sitting around really was pointless.

If someone handed me a box of skaven and told me it was worth 300$ to paint it (it did take me 6 weeks with painting every night) ... I THINK NOT. I hate painting for profit stuff... I really dont like putting in the time and energy into painting stuff that is not going to be mine in the end. The thought of putting models in play keeps the paint flowing!


Here is another quasi dipped fig I sold: I used ink washes and foundation paint. Did it in about 10hours of work.

I'm sorry but why do we have painting and modelling threads in Dakka Discussions? I fail to see what the hype in these models are? The gold on the Necrons looks decent but nowhere near GD level because the highlight on it is chalky and not blended properly. The white on the Necron lord's face looks thick as hell (and lacks all highlights), and the highlights on the blues are a little more than strange. All of your pics (including the Bloodthirster picture) are quite bad so with proper lighting the models might look different. For example it's hard to make out any real highlights from your reds, not to mention having more than one layer. 6/10.

This thread is mearly a follow up to a previous without hijacking.

If its in the wrong catagory a mod can move it easy enough.

@Blklotus, don't worry about Therion. He is from Finland and I don't think he likes anything.

You can also get a very similar effect using Future Floor wax and INK... you can find it at any grocery store.

Could have been put in a tactful way but you can't say he's not giving his honest oppinion. The bar on GD has gotten extremely high. I remember things that won back in 97 that just would not even come close today. Honestly I'd like the guy to look at some of my attempts at 3 layer shading and get a really critical opinion.

as for dipping i am all for easier ways to paint minis. your skaven looked good

@Beef, Where have you been? I have not read a post of yours in a while. Don't go running off on us, your absence makes Dakka a less colorful place.
