This came up in a very random discussion, and I thought that I should ask here whether, by the letter of RAW, this is actually allowed or not. not saying I would do this, just it's a very "technically..." issue, so thought I would get some well-RAW-versed opinions on it:

Things like the Vindicare Assassin's Stealth Suit, and IIRC Tau Sealth Generators/Suits, state that you roll to see them "as per Nightfight rules".

So technically you are using "Night fight rules" in a mission.

Searchlights can only be used in any missions in which the nightfight rules are used - and allow any unit in the army in range to shoot at the marked unit.

So basically, based on a technicality of wording, can you spot Suits and Assassins and suchlike with a Searchlight, because by using the special abilities built-in to those units, those units are using Nightfight rules in a mission?

Probably no - and certainly doesn't seem intended or sportsmanly...but from a pure RAW standpoint?

No. You couldn't.

It's not saying that Stealth Suits are using Night fight rules, it is just using that for a reference on how you have to roll to see them.

Yep total agreement

When trying to shoot at suits you use the NF rules to see if you can.
As searchlights are only used in mission where NF rules are in affect then no, your assumption is correct
