Can a Death Watch Kill Team included in a Space Marine army with the Suffer Not the Alien to Live be given the preferred enemy bonus for an additional 1 point?

I think that they can because the trait says "every Space Marine non-vehicle model used must have this if any do. The members of the Death Watch Kill Team squad are described in the PDF as a "Space Marine Captain" and "4-9 Space Marines." Because the rules for the DWKT never state that they are allies, only an HQ choice, can they count as Space Marine as described in the Suffer Not the Alien to Live Trait?

I don't have the SM 'dex, so I can't really check this myself, but isn't his argument presented in the second paragraph of his original post?

My argument is this:

The wording for the Suffer Not the Alien to Live Trait is "Every Space Marine non-vehicle model must have this ability if any do." The rules on the Death Watch Kill Team PDF describe the squad as consisting "of one Space Marine Captain and between 4 and 9 Deathwatch Space Marines). At no point do the rules describe DWKT squads as allies. It only says that one can be taken as an HQ. Further more, the Captain can even select items from the "Space Marine Armoury." Because DwKT models are Space Marine non-vehicle models, and because they aren't allied forces, they're an HQ unit, the RAW wording of the Suffer Not the Alien to Live trait allows for DWKT HQ squads to be given the preferred enemy ability for 1 point a model.

Can anyone tell me why my interpretation of this rule is wrong?

I hate to say it but it sounds to me like you are trolling here.

Looks to me more like you're trolling.

If it's so obvious to you that his argument is wrong, then please take a few seconds of your time to explain why, because I'm not seeing it.

This argument doesn't in anyway give the KT the rules, all it does is show that if they don't get it then no one can. The statement that might give them the rule is "All models have the prefurred enemy rule...(44 C: SM)," but for that to work you'd have to prove that a model can use the rules of a Codex it isn't part of.

Ok, I can understand that there's no rule giving a model an ability to use a rule in another codex. It doesn't matter if DWKT space marines can be the "space marine non-vehicle models" the trait is talking about because there's no rule that gives the DWKT permission to use the rules in the Space Marine codex.

Thanks for clearing that up for me Imriel.

The upside is, you can pretty much guarantee that the Deathwatch will have the equivalent of SNtAtL, if ever the Alien Hunters gets published... but wait, it's being written by GW, so instead, it'll probably have nothing of the sort.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
