What are the best and worst value pieces in the FW range? Please provide links to illustrate, or pics if you are hosting them yourself.
For best, I like this Earthshaker emplacement, they seem to give you a lot for £30(+12-15%)
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/earthshaker.htm
Worst I think is the Armageddon pattern Basilisk. It's a very nice looking kit, but for £45 (+12-15%), I'd prefer a £25 Basilisk and some plasticard, I think I could make an identical copy.

Yeah it looks damn nice. It's what inspired this thread - I briefly considered shelling out for one, but my modelling instincts kicked in about 3 seconds after that.

I think the Tyranid Mycetic Spores are the best deal FW has. 15 pounds for a unit of three is pretty similar to what GW would charge for those models were they plastic. Plus they're a great unit in games too.
If there was a category for the GW model most improved by FW, my vote would have to go to either of the Hellhound kits FW makes. They are so vastly superior to the stock GW one they are so worth the price of 38 pounds.

I quite like some of the FW monstrous creatures for value (and you have not provided a link Yak, I also love how the HHs look so I don't need to check them, but I have to go see what the spores look like!)

I submit to you:
FW Sentinels.
Missile Launcher and Rocket Pod
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/mlsent.htm
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/rlsent.htm
$30
EXACT same price as a GW Cadian or Armaggedon pattern sentinel. Insanity!
Also the Elysian: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/dsent.htm
Almost a complete recast of the sentinel, $5 more.
They're all also super cool looking.
I am inclined to agree that the Armaggedon pattern Basilisk is the worst offender (and I'm trying to build a battery of the little blighters! I'm an idiot!).
But I also submit this for your consideration:
Grenadier Centaur
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/grencent.htm
$75 for this tiny little thing
(and I do mean tiny, they are exactly half the size of a Chimera, two will fit perfectly in the 'Chimera' spot in my tank case)
While cool, this thing is INSANELY over priced. It does come with the passengers, but you obviously can't use those as seperate minis, so you'll still need to buy grenadiers. Translate this into points per dollar and you're paying almost $2 per point of this vehicle. INSANITY!
And! It's the only transport a DKOK army can have.
Think FW kinda tried to screw us over on that one...

Good contenders AlexCage. I have 2 rocketpod Sentinels on my FW purchase list for the new year, they're awesome and good value, and you're right about those Centaurs too, I had the same thought when they were first released (in fact a lot of the DkoK artillery and associated vehicles seem expensive to me)

I'm a fan of the FW Broadsides. Only $5 more than the standard broadsides. The only problem is the joints for the feet tend to break just as easily.

I too am a fan of the FW Tau stuff, especially their Broadsides. I also like the variant turrets for the hammerhead, such as http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/hammerhburst.htm
Even though I don't even play 40K.
As for the worst value, I am torn between the Chaos War Mammoth- an expensive figure for which there are no rules: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/warmammoth.htm
and the Tower at Amon Sul, which looks really... generic... for the price: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalog/QUATERMASTERS_STORE_THE_LORD_OF_THE_RINGS_2.html
I would put in a vote for the Rhinox riders, http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/rhinoxtl.htm, but I don't know which way to go. I love the model so much, but I think it is also too expensive- I just can't decide! (Full disclosure- I own four, but I bought them off ebay at a discount.)

Blood-Drenched Death Company Marine

The Best is: The Death Korps of Krieg Leman Russ - Mars Alpha http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/dkkmalr.htm I prefer the hull of this one to the normal one. And the kit wasn't difficult to assemble.
The worst would be the Thunderhawk. http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/thunder1.htm I'm a bit underwhelmed by it right now, of course I haven't used it in a game yet. So things may change. There are actual interior pieces to this thing that once you glue it together you'll never see.

@ Fellblade - I've got the trial rules for the war mammoth, and I've wanted to make a 2000 point army around the big boy since I saw him. If you want the rules PM me and I can hook you up later tonight.
Also, for how drunkenly powerful they are rhinox riders may get my vote for most (in game) bang for your (very real) buck. When they're allowed RR really slam OK up there in competitive play, IMO.
I am of course a big fan of the chaos dreads, but as far as being a good value ...
FW dread cost = 2(GW dread cost)
FW dread coolness = 1000(GW dread coolness)

Tau Broadsides and IG sentinels are best. I'd say the Tallarn rough riders I got are some of the worst. $35 for each model that'll get killed in half a turn and cost $8 if they come in sombreros.

I quite like the Tallarn RRs (from a strictly P&M view). As for the Titans, a lot of people on Warseer (where I also made this topic) say that they're low value (complex, expensive, not that big etc), but I think a lot of the value comes from the uniqueness of the model. They seem to like the Chaos Dreads quite a lot though, whereas I agree with this thread (that they're good but quite expensive compared to GW Dreads)

I know somebody who has 2 mars patterns, i personally prefer the jackal or lucious over the mars just because i like the way the shoulders and head look.
When it comes to FW most of us by it for the "its cool" factor.
Cool and for the cost effectiveness in normal games, by my reckoning-
.Varaint tau crisis suits
.Variant tau vehicle turrets
.Land speeder tempest
.land raider prometheus.
.Sisters of battle repressor
.Imperial guard hydra
.Dark angels mortis dreadnaught
.seige dreadnaught
While i love the IG flyers(valkyries and vultures) since you will only see them in apocolypse or in permission based games, making an entire normal army with them and thier elysian troopers is cost prohibitive even if they are the best and most effective IG army i have ever seen.

Hey uh, as far as the rules for the Mammoth, try this:
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/mammoth.pdf
And they stopped making the Tower at Amon Sul, didn't they? It's listed as out of production. But I do have to agree, it's very bland for the buck. Hell, it's bland even by plastic GW terrain standards! (Maybe they realize this and that's why they stopped making it... I think that would make it win the 'worst' category by default, wouldn't it?)
But I think most of FW's terrain is way overpriced and underwhelming (save for a few pieces, like the Earthshaker emplacement and Hydra emplacement that make me drool).

How do people feel about this thing, for close to £1000?
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/40kmanta2.htm
And what about the super-heavy tanks (and the smaller - Macharius etc) no that the plastic Baneblade is on the scene? (I've considered a Macharius - I could bash up a 1/35 Tamiya for 1/6 of the price, but I do so like the look of that tank).

If you were just starting out that is actually pretty much worth it, since you both get the really cool manta and almost an entire tau army (4 tanks, 8 crisis suits) in the deal.
