That realistically...SM have no way of reloading if you look at the models. lol I mean I know this is kinda slowed, but the HB Marines have the pack with ammo, and possibly reserves in it, but if you think these super human freaks are killing all these alien races...their doin it by emptyin out a mag, and jumpin to close combat! lol Just a thought I had when I was lost in my 40k spun world...

When was it cool to not be a Marine?

Don't look closely because almost nothing in 40K realistically works.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

You mean that a Catchan Soldier would never fit into a Space Marine armor? Or the wicked anatomy of Terminators? Or that hilarious big ears on Khorne Berserkers' helmets? Or...

Yes, I think that virtually everyone has noticed that.

Not sure why, I think they could have a compartment where they could stash some magazines. Their bolters would be designed so that the controls were large enough so they could rack the slide with power armor gloves. Assuming the loading mechanism works like a modern self loading firearm. I assume the HB packs would carry sufficent ammunition for an engagement, especially that due to the power armor weight wouldnt be an issue. Bolters are described as rocket propelled projectle guns, which the ammunition is lighter than a traditional cartridge, at least from what I have been told. Incidentally these type of weapons have really existed since before the Vietnam war, they just havent been practical.

I know I shouldnt look too close into the game, but it was just a question I had in my mind, that for some reason I felt that I should ask...

I, for one, now officially quit 40k.

Screw this S***

No, seriously though, I'd never noticed that.

I dont think the OP doesnt realize WH40k is SF that leans toward fantasty. But I think it is still neat to point out stuff like that. I for one find the little exploded diagrams of the technology fun. And I think the important thing is not realism, but "fantasy realism" or internal consistency. I think what was just mentioned has actually been addressed by the models. Remember when the HB models had a clip sticking out of them? Now, at least for the marine models, the ammunition is belted and feeds out of a backpack. One figures that an HB is like a crew operated machine gun, rather than a rifle or submachine gun. They're just going to spray out rounds in an arc.

Reloads? Ammo? Realism? Whaddaya think this is, Stargrunt? Dirtside II? Battletech? You're looking at the wrong game, chummer. Put your big-girl panties on and start throwing dice: my armies have unlimited ammo!

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

My problem is that I cannot forget real world physics.

I can suspend my disbelief in warp travel, but I cannot bring myself to believe that a 2 inch long gun barrel is as accurate as a 10 inch long barrel.

I always thought that anatomy in 40k was a little off. The face that guard lasguns are as long as their bodies. I saw a neat conversion once that uses WWII rifles. I always thought it was funny that in the year 40,000 guard technology seemed less advanced than the stuff we use today.

All out of witty one-liners.

Flahslights have always been more effective than bullets and real marines don't need to reload.

I can suspend my dibelief that there are chainsaws with power sources light enough to be wielded as swords that won't kick back and break your face, but I cannot bring myself to believe that you only have a 1 in 6 chance of dying when shot with a antitank weapon, a la Necromunda.
