I'm planning on modeling a squad of Adeptus Arbite models with jump packs to count as IG Rough Riders for my IG drop troop army. The question is, since rules-wise Rough Riders are considered Cavalry models, do I have to base the models on the rectangular cavalry bases?

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes.
They have to be on the "regulation" sized base or larger.

Look at it as a good way to take advantage of some cool modeling opportunities... and your opponents will have an easier time reemmbering what they are.

That's what I thought, thanks for the clarification.
