Hey guys, I am new to Necrons and have just written this army list. This army will be initially for my Chaos as allies in Apocalypse (Chaos Cyborgs anyone?), but I am thinking about developing it into an army on its own. Due to my only experience of playing with Necrons have been killing them with Marines, any advice on my list and/or tactics will be helpful. This is everything I have at this stage-the Lord and Battleforce.

Necron Army=1005pts

HQ: - Lord with warscythe, phase shifter, phylactery, resurrection orb=195pts

Troops: - 14 Warriors with disruption fields=280pts

Troops: - 14 Warriors with disruption fields=280pts

Fast Attack: - 3 Destroyers=150pts

Fast Attack: - 4 Scarab Swarms with disruption fields=64pts

Fast Attack: - 3 Scarab Swarms=36pts

Thanks for all help given.

Usually you want a ROVOD Lord or some kind of destroyer variant. Giving a footslogger a warscythe and those other CC goodies sort of implies you expect your footslogging crons to hit combat, which is usually a great way to lose hard.

Warriors don't need disruption fields, they've got rapid fire gauss weapons. So you've got the choice between charging, swinging twice and glancing on 6's, and shooting twice. If the vehicle has moved at all you are better off shooting, and the extra power gained in the case of the immobile vehicle isn't enough to justify the cost. Drop the dfields.

You've got good fast attack choices. Usually you want to deploy Destroyers, or any other unit with the "Necron" descriptor in pairs of units that hang out near each other.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

Disruption fields are mainly to make up points. Will probably swap it over to the remaining Scarabs. ROVOD Lord? Take it that the VOD bit is veil of darkness.
