This is my first post, I’m getting back into 40k after a 7+ year absence, and the release of the last ork codex which disappointed me. Last night I played my first game since about 2001ish? Anyway after only having half an Ork speed freaks army built I decided to team up with a friend to take on black Templars.
We played a 2k-point game with me and the witchhunters at 1,000 each and the BT at 2000
I had:
Kitted out warboss, bike power claw, squig, cybork all the bells and whistles cause they're powerful and I always liked the idea of one big mean ork

Big Mek with SAG

8 Lootas

2 trukkboyz with nob and PK and some other whizzbang stuff

11 Warbikers

That about rounded out my army at 999 pts

What the witch hunter had I couldn't really tell you besides a vindicare, an excorsict, some flagges and some storm troopers, needless to say it didn't really matter because the witch hunters threw their ork allies under the bus (which works somehow)

The BT had landraider with Termies and chaps, two tactical squads, assault squad, landspeeder, pred, and a small squad of bikes he thought he would use to counter my bikes (we'll get to that later)

Mission was Take and Hold we choose table edge and had first turn, because I’m basically a noob again I let the more experienced WH player convince me we should take the side with more terrain and cover, against my better judgement, he wanted to use the cover and turtle, I wanted more room to manover, which turned into our undoing.

1st turn:
And before I get started let me say that what really killed me was an unfamiliarity with the rules.

Thinking I could waaagh in the first turn I moved trukk boys up into range to assault out of them, needless to say I was reminded they couldn't waaagh and was stuck with 2 trucks facing quite a few lascannons.
Moved the boys up close with the SM bike squad hoping to sweep into the tac squad behind them.
My movement over, I shot with SAG rolling a 7 and did some considerable damage to an assault squad killed 3-4 models I think.
The loota squad rolled a 6 and I fired off the 24 shots and rolled all 24 dice with zeal expecting horrific results on the side of the Marines. It couldn't have gone worse if MathHammer was being played. 8 hit, 5 wounded and 3 armor saves were made killing a whole two models! I wasn't too worried cause it was the first turn. Whatever my "ally" did didn't matter, he basically putted around behind my boys, wasted his special rounds with the vidicare and generally did nothing.
BT turn he used the aforementioned lascannons to pop my trukks leaving them as burning wreckage with boys getting out and having to make morale tests and all sorts of hell, hate, and discontent. ! trukk boy squad started running away from the BT not to be heard from again.
the other took 1 or 2 loses but nothing else eventful happened,
Except for they were charged by his bike squad (which sent me into a momentary panic, thinking they were like my bike squad)
In the close combat, a few boys were killed off, until my nob hit and killed 2 of them out right with out seeming to break a sweat! Nothing really eventful happened the rest of the turn, or if it did it didn't affect me.

turn 2:
My warbikers/w warboss swept around the close combat with the space marine bikers hoping to get a shot off a landspeeder that was behind the close combat, unfortunately the ignorance bug bit me again and I shot the landspeeder all to pieces with my warbikes and destroyed it with a glancing hit thinking I could then charge into close combat with the bikers and not realize that I had to charge the same unit I shot at
which was nice.
shooting from the shokk attack did nothing, lootas rolled a 2 and shot 8 shots and ended up killing a marine somewhere in the distance.
The HtH was a little more exciting with the lowly trukk boys killing all but one of the Space Marine bikers. I was kinda happy with that.

Again what ever my "ally" did was unimportant because he failed to move anything and all his shots did about nothing, except maybe kill 1-2 marines somewhere where they didn't matter.

BT turn he used to jump his assault marines into range of my bikes killed 2 of them wtih flamers and plasma guns and then assaulted them with the jump troopers and his emperors champ, which was near them.

His shooting was uneventful with his land raider crusader failing to kill even one biker because of their cover saves.

The close combat got really interesting in that he used his champion to directly assault my warboss
Its at this point that I really thought my goose was cooked, I knew the Champion was badass, but what I didn't count on was how much more badass my warboss was, he of course hit first and took two wounds from the Boss and the rest of his squad failed to kill him, my warbikers then returned the assault killing all but 2 of the assault marines. Then I really had some fun as my warboss was so offended by the mere fact that this puny Marine Boy with all this flash attacked him directly and even managed to hurt him, unloaded all his attacks on the champion. Needless to say instant death was the result. He kinda pulled an alien queen "bishop" move and the champion’s head will become his first trophy on his boss pole.

Turn : and pretty much my last turn.
First thing that happened was my SAG rolled double ones trying to shoot the landraider and not only got himself sucked into the warp but 7 of the 8 loota boyz around him. Yeah I lost 200 pts with the roll of two dice, beat that MathHammer! The last loota ran off the table, also never to be heard from again (but who can blame him when he just saw 7 of his best mates and the warbosses personal Mek sucked into a strange looking rip in the air)
Close combat pretty much went the way you'd expect it, the warbikers killed some more marines, consolidated and waited for the hit from the landraider that was about to deploy termies right into them.
After that it was pretty much over the termies hit and wiped the floor with the bikerboyz, with such a low int and all the termies having lightening claws it was over.
Oh and my "ally" still didn't do much, killed a few termies and the rest of the tact and assault squad before the end of the game, but not before I had softened up the majority of the BT.

Lessons?
1. Open terrain is my friend, I thought that i'd be able to use the terrain to my advantage by blocking line of sight and such, what really ended up happening was my trukks getting popped and bottle-necking my own forces.
2. make sure I read and re-read the rules over and over again, I know some of you are thinking, yeah duh noob, but I’m a busy guy, school, work, I’m in the NatGuard, a bunch of other stuff means that instead of reading the rule book in my free time I’m usually modeling and painting.
3. Don't underestimate my warboss, I’m used to playing smaller sized games, like necro and mordheim, where you protect your boss at all times, but I shouldn't be afraid to just throw him out there against a landraider, I mean that's what orks are for right?
4. The SAG needs some room to work! I felt like a total moron when it killed the Big Mek and 7 lootas but would've guessed that on my first game I’d roll snake eyes. In the future he'll be pretty much on his own. maybe with lootas as screeners but a good distance away.
5. Powerklaws are the greatest invention of Orkkind and I need more of them, esp ones that go fast, so I need more stormboyz, unfortunatly GW has left us with few options as far as that's concerned. Anyone wanna donate some?

Anyway I’d be interested in hearing what some of your guys have to say, I’m sorry I don't have pictures but I didn't want to take any for a half assed game anyway.

oh also if any of you want to make some suggestions I know this report is written kinda loose, I’d be happy to clear some things up.

Sounds like a good learning experience. Coming back to a new edition is going to throw you a few curves.

Cover is good for orks. Put reinforced rams on your trukks and don't be afraid to drive straight through it on your way to an assualt. (though I still tend to roll snake eyes a lot).

Stormboyz - I took regular slugga boyz, some greenstuff, some pushpins, some plasticard and made rokkit packs. And I love stormboyz in this version of the codex.

Play some 1K point games instead of teaming with someone else. That way you won't have a "more experienced" player screwing you up.

A Witch Hunters player with multiple units of Storm Troopers is always to be held in the highest suspicion. The Emperor DEMANDS chicks in power armor!

Not a bad recovery though on your part. It looks like you dealt with more than your 1000pts in Marines, which isn't too shabby.

KILL! MAIM! BURN! KILL! MAIM! BURN! I... I mean... For the Emperor?..

Umm, i'm pretty sure that if you shoot at something and kill it you can charge whatever might come close with savage abandon in the next phase. Please tear me to pieces if i'm wrong

The Ten Commandments of the Space Marine
1. Thou shalt never, ever, ever argue with the Machine Spirit!
2. Thou shalt always remember that the only thing Flamers are sanctioned to cook is Tyranids. Or, lacking these, thine local contingent of Imperial Guardsmen.
3. Thou shalt always stick "Honk if you think i'm Sexy" stickers on the sides of Rhino's carrying Sisters of Battle.
4. Thou shalt, whenever in doubt, hit on the blonde Battle Sister.
5. Thou shalt not slap the most holy of buttocks of thine Sisters the Battle Sisters and utter the blasphemous words "OMG l33t a55!", unless thou wishest to clean the treads of thine Rhino with thine tongue!
6. Thou shallst not use the chainfists of thine holy Terminator brethren as impromptu can openers.
7. Thou may haveth two livers, but thou shallst not therefore drink twice as much.
8. Thou shallst not refer to Sisters of Battle as the Cavalry.
9. Thou shallst on pain of death not paint the heretical words: "Your Farseer is my other ride!" upon thine Rhino!
10. Thou shallst always remember these wise words: Spase Marines are t3h uberz! Hurr!
