I have written (quickly) a piece of fluff to hand out to my opponenets & the tourney organizers when I play my bugs at the local shop. Please read it and let me know what you think. I'm obviously not an english major or writer so those of you with the knack, please assist if you feel up to it! This does all fit on a single page, printed on the back of my army list so it isn't as much reading as it may appear.

Also this is a sort of challenge for those who'd like, build a list which in your mind fits this bit of fluff best, would be fun to play & post it here for me. I already have a list so this isn't a 'build me a list' request, just thought it'd beinteresting to see others ideas of how the game mechanics translate from my background story.

Thanks and enjoy!

“HARD TARGETS”

As the waves of Tyranid organisms crash against the tougher & tougher defenses of a prey planet’s inhabitants there comes a time when the resolute must be broken. It is at this point when the Hive Mind detects a slowing of the push forward & it shifts the focus of its Norn Queens to produce even harder & more powerful beasts to crush & annihilate the foe.

“HARD TARGETS” is a Tyranid army list representative of this phase in the Tyranid assault where the counter attack is welling up from behind the last bastions of enemy defenses, when there is no more gain from the push of small & multitudinous little creatures towards the final goal of eliminating all resistance to the prey’s ultimate fate. When ceramite walls, battle tanks, fortresses & forces which are heavily armored & dug in are all which are left to stop the inevitable tide of consumption… that is when these monsters are unleashed.

Swarms of cunning & self-sufficient Genestealers root out & slaughter the remaining ground forces which are fleeing on foot or hiding within buildings, tunnels or trenches. Massively reinforced Carnifex with punishing armor-piercing & terrible explosive bio-weapons hunt down vehicles, tanks & heavily armored troops en-masse. Other, more specialized Carnifex known as “Devilfexes” act as shock troops, mercilessly mowing down infantry & light vehicles.

All the while this push into the heart of the prey’s remaining defenses is guided & led by terrible, efficient, murderous Hive Tyrants. Specially bred to inflict maximum carnage on fleeing infantry, or those in transports, they also have another sinister purpose bred into them as well… pure terror.

The Hive Mind has prompted the use of Zoanthropes to accompany the Tyrants for a dual purpose, they escort their Hive Tyrant masters, punching holes ahead of them with massive Warp Blasts… but they also sow fear into the enemy directly. The Hive Tyrants & Zoanthropes are both resonators of a very specific & horrific message, broadcasting it into the minds, thoughts & very nerves or relays off all creatures within range of their influence. A Psychic Scream directly from the Hive Mind itself, a message of ultimate doom unyielding, unending, unforgiving…

“THAT WHICH DOES NOT KILL US, MAKES US STRONGER!”
“THAT WHICH KILLS US, MAKES US STRONGER!”
WE ARE THE RIPPER, THE TEARER, THE SLASHER. WE ARE THE TEETH IN THE DARKNESS, THE DEATH!”
“OUR NAME IS STRENGTH & LUST & POWER. WE HUNGER. WE CONSUME. WE DO NOT CEASE!”
“WELCOME TO THE NIGHTMARE, WELCOME TO THE DEATH, WELCOME TO THE DARKNESS!”

This is message continuously piped into the minds & very fiber of all beings who dare encroach or cower in the presence of this unsympathetic choir of terror. The gnashing, clawing & screeching is over. Only crushing, rending pain & death remains.

That which does not kill us, makes us stronger. That which kills us, makes us stronger. We are the terror in the night, the shadow in the warp.

I entered a local tournament once where I was told I had to come up with a fluff description of the army. Because I thought it was a waste of time for Tyranids I turned in half a page of this:

Hiss hiss growl roar hiss chomp slash hiss roar hiss. Hiss! Growl roar roar! Slash slash bite chomp slash!

I handed it to every opponent I played.

KILL! MAIM! BURN! KILL! MAIM! BURN! I... I mean... For the Emperor?..

Rockit, that's lovely fluff, but personally i think it's too much for nids. Even the Hive Mind is linguically dumber than a grot. Big strategist n' all that, but making it speak is less likely than a grot killing a Greater Daemon in 1 round of combat. Ergo, no-no. Also, from your fluff it seems you play Nidzilla. No offence, but if there is a list out there that's cheasier than the 3-falcon cookie cutter, then it's Nidzilla... hotflung, that's brilliant, although i'm guessing you haven't been let back to that tournament?

The Ten Commandments of the Space Marine
1. Thou shalt never, ever, ever argue with the Machine Spirit!
2. Thou shalt always remember that the only thing Flamers are sanctioned to cook is Tyranids. Or, lacking these, thine local contingent of Imperial Guardsmen.
3. Thou shalt always stick "Honk if you think i'm Sexy" stickers on the sides of Rhino's carrying Sisters of Battle.
4. Thou shalt, whenever in doubt, hit on the blonde Battle Sister.
5. Thou shalt not slap the most holy of buttocks of thine Sisters the Battle Sisters and utter the blasphemous words "OMG l33t a55!", unless thou wishest to clean the treads of thine Rhino with thine tongue!
6. Thou shallst not use the chainfists of thine holy Terminator brethren as impromptu can openers.
7. Thou may haveth two livers, but thou shallst not therefore drink twice as much.
8. Thou shallst not refer to Sisters of Battle as the Cavalry.
9. Thou shallst on pain of death not paint the heretical words: "Your Farseer is my other ride!" upon thine Rhino!
10. Thou shallst always remember these wise words: Spase Marines are t3h uberz! Hurr!

Actually I play mixed swarm... this Nidzilla is a departure from my normal play style & list.

As far as 'talking Nids' I'll have no offence in conceding this IS just lovely fluff... but that's all I was going for, lovely fluff & thank you very much for that!

The Hive Mind is noted for its ability to make tactical & strategic decisions, adapt to battle & send what's needed where... as for how smart it is in a non-instinctive sense that's still so far up in the air its really just opinion I'd say. It is good at killing, in endless waves of gnashing teeth or in shocking assaults of crushing behemoths... it does what it does very well.

You apparently don't like Nidzilla, that's fine with me, my local tourney scene shows more cheese than a Wisconson state fair though and I am always welcomed for bringing something different. We have very few and far between Nid players here so my welcome hasn't been close to worn out yet. Thanks for the comments, ALL are appreciated.

I didn't post the list itself but I can say there are only SIX monstrous creatures in this list instead of the very beardy normal of eight, that's something right?
