In the space wolves codex it has 0-1 for the Venerable dreadnought option, and then if you take a normal dreadnought as per the space marine codex it has the option to make it a venerable dreadnought. Are you able to have 2 venerable dreadnoughts, one from the space wolves entry and one from the space marines entry?

"No we don't, its just 10 of us, and a Washing Machine"
"That is the tank...."

The space wolves codex is much older than the marine codex and as such the 0-1 used to be 1 better than any marine army could get. I believe they keep it this way because the space wolf venerable dreads get BS5, while the codex ones stay at 4. But to answer your question, yes codex chapters can have 2 venerable dreads, while Space Wolves get their one.

i think you mgiht have misinteroperated my question. In a space wolves army, can you have the 1 space wolves venerable dreadnought, and a venerable dreadnought from the space marines codex?

"No we don't, its just 10 of us, and a Washing Machine"

No you cannot. You can only use the Sm codex for normanl dreds in the Sw army while the ven option comes from the actual Sw codex. But their is a limit on that of 0-1 so we only get one in the SW army.

Thats due to our ven dred being better than marine one, we get BS5 and WS5 plus the other snazzy rules.

theres the answer i was looking for, even though it means i gotta redo my army list.

"So when do we get our tank?"

"No we don't, its just 10 of us, and a Washing Machine"
"That is the tank...."

the spire of angels

yep if your playing army specific ruls you can only use those rules from your army specific codex. no mixing in one FOC unless you have allies option like the DH/WH inquisitorial lists

if you want multiple venerable dreads you either play dark angels or iron hands.

The space wolves codex has an option to use a dreadnought as per the vanilla marine codex. It is stated in the Dreadnought entry you can upgrade the normal dread into a venerable. As pointed out to me by some veteran space wolves players, i have read correctly so i can use a venerable dreadnought as per the space wolves entry and as per the space marine codex meaning I can use two venerable dreadnoughts. Thanks for your input though guys. I'll post an army list up in the army list section soon

By the RAW it is perfectly allowable for a Space Wolves army to have one of "their" venerable Dreadnoughts and also take Space Marine Dreadnoughts and give them the venerable upgrade.

Some players may frown at the idea but there is nothing in the rules preventing it.

I personally just think of the Space Wolves venerable as extra venerable because it has better rules.

The regular SM venerable dreadnought isn't quite the same level of entombed hero and therefore doesn't have quite as good abilities.

It's pretty much the only reason I'm not so excited about a codex update, because there's no way we'll see them in the new list.
