Yeah...
Ok with a bit of luck I'll Recieve My 2 x ForgeWorld DeathGuard Terminators upgrade packs soon? update: they have arrived took 25days
Its the first time in a while I've been this excited about doing a project! They look Awesome.

So ok i have got...
10 resin Bodies and 20 resin shoulder pads
5 plastic Chaos Terminators full sprue
1 Plastic Lord Terminator full sprue
15 plastic imperial terminators
16 metal Chaos Terminators (will use the legs )

I won't be using any metal Terminators upper body. I want them to all look like the new terminators. just using the legs to fill in my short fall

So I'm checking if this will work... I cut one in half and the photos are posted below Obviously alot more greenstuff fileing dremeling and nurgle-upping would be done...
this should also give some idea as to how resin and metal will look?

???
Panic...

Conversion and Painting updates....

16th april 08:
Still no FW Resin bits yet... athough i've 'only' been waiting 23 days... ...
Decided on 30 terminators mixing in every thing i got available...
  • 10 will be resin and 20 plasitc bodys mixed with:

  • 15 with plastic imperial legs 6 with chaos plastic and 9 metal legs (hybrids the real worry asthetically)...

  • Resin/Plastic/metal arms:

  • Did do alot of the boring pre-assembly stuff clipping from sprue and planning weapon distribution across the squads...
I sawed nine of the metal terminators in half and stole their legs...
Did my first hybrid conversion plastic imperial body with imperial head + plastic arms + metal legs pictures attached below...
Still neeeds to have some pustules added and cleaned up.. but I think I'll get away with this!...
Although I'm starting to realise this will be a long project...

    22nd april 08
Resin bits arrived at the weekend and I've managed to build and (almost) finnish converting the first ten...
Got to work out who's the champions and make them distinguiseable...
    Photos attached.
I've got to work out how to make tiny pustules quickly? any ideas...

    29th april 08
    yeah...
Built the second and third squads...
what TragicNut says makes sense, so I reconfigured the armaments, each squad now has 1 power fist and 1 chainfist...
based the squads... and added some sand in small patchs to the body with lots of pva coating... hopefully this will look good as pustules.
hopefully I'll find time to paint soon!
still some minor mold lines to clean. (Almost) no work was needed with the FW parts really happy with those.

I've been a bit slow at updating, too much summer and GTA4, I've also been really busy going to lots of gigs lately.
any hoo i've been painting a little, 10 terminators are ready for a final bit of tidy up washes and picking out details.
today I finnished base-coating the rest of them. I'm going to production line paint the last 20 guys...

You realise that FW has a month (or more) delay on just about everything, and the Death Guard guys came out only on Monday. If you get them this week I'll be very surprised. If you get them this month I'll be surprised. Have you received confirmation from FW that they've shipped?

    yeah...
I always hear that FW are rubbish with their postage, but i bought three of their nurgle dreadnoughts and they arrived fairly quick! that was a while ago though...
Maybe they post to uk addresses quicker? it's probabily unfair but possible?
Its a preorder and and small items so shouldn't be a hard order to fill but all said and done if i have to wait I'll wait... Me or this thread aint going no where in a hurry
It'll give me a little bit of time to think about these metal/plastic bits...
Maybe i'll complete a Plastic Metal Hybrid convertion do all the details and decide if i'm adding metal to the mix???
Clean up the plastic mold lines etc....

With the advent of these kits i'm foreseeing alot of spare Termie bodies going on eBays...

Oh...Also worth mentioning is how awesome the new GW RazorBlade Saw is! That puppy went through his Metal belly like it was a chainsaw cutting up birthday cake!

I updated the amounts of Terminator bitz I have available now for the project...

I like the hybrid. As you will have leftover plastic torsos from the FW kits, your solution will work well. Full-metal models really wouldn't match the splendor of the FW models, plastics and hybrids, unless you biggerize the metals with a plastic disc extending the torsos, foot pads to raise height, and a hump over the back ( good opportunity for some Nurglish detail, that).

Good luck with your Plague Termies. Are you thinking about a Plaguer Wing?

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

    yeah...
My friend gave me 15 plastic imperial terminator legs and bodys and pads... (no arms)

I'm playing around with the Idea of a Plague Wind... 30 Nurgle Terminators whould be awesome!
Athough I'm starting to think they won't be cost effective in a game.... Cool though!

I updated the original post to reflect what i'm currently thinking...
    ...

I only wanted 10 FW terminators to start with...
But yeah there will be so many left over parts!
and the more I think about the options the more I think why not... Damn this hobby!
If i make the 20 plastic & resin only terminators, I could just put the 16 metal guys on ebay. (back from whence they came!)

Once painted, the hybrids will look great and mixed in you probably won't be able to tell the difference.

    yeah...

Decided on thirty terminators... I think it'll be rare that i'd get to use all thirty!

I'm looking into tweaking the squads weapons options here in the 40k lists forum...

So what do you think... any recommendations / advice will be greatly received!

    yeah...

FW stuff arived this weekend... within the 28days quoted. which is good. could have been closer to the release date, but I understand that they are working hard.

The resin is of a great standard. I mean a couple of terminator bodies have bits where the resin is a bit thin and possibly a little bit of detail missing, but not overly noticable... The Detail is amazing... so crisp! I'm more than pleased with these guys! Good Job FW.

Ok so I'm currently building and have 6-7 terminators made up from the first squad. I'll post photos tonight if I finnish the first 10 man 'TLBolterPW' squad....

Slightly off topic and I don't see it in any of the pics you have up there.... How well do the plastic arms match up to metal termies? Is the size difference really noticable? The reason im asking is I have a ton of metal termies but not the right weapons... and getting metal weapons is a pain now with the removal of bits ordering. Thanks.

    I play...

One big recommendation, get at least 1 terminator with a p-fist or c-fist into each squad, that way you can't be tarpitted by a Wraithlord or Dread in close combat.

    yeah...
tragic: I've been thinking about powerfists and chainfists...
I could add in two of each across the first two squads...
not sure if i want them in the LC assult squad since i would prefer them to strike at inititive? or is that poor thinking... they are I:4
the problem i can see with terminators i think is if they are striking last and they are often out numbered lots, the bigger base looks cool but don't help, they might not get a chance to strike back... or am i outta wack here... i've never really played with them... yet...

Fallen: IMO mixing metal bodies and plastic arms is bad?
the metal bodies are smaller plastic bodies + the plastic arms are bigger than the metal arms
= the smaller metal bodies with the biger plastic arms...

you can spot the smaller metal arms on my terminators... but plastic arms on metal bods will stick out even more i reckon...
I'll blutac up a metal terminator with plastic arms tonight, if you want and we'll find out...?

Well, think about it this way Panic, suppose you have your Uber squad of 10 LC armed terminators about to chew their way trough your opponent's line. If he can get a Dread, Wraithlord, or similar (T8+, or AV11+), your termis can't hurt it at all, and he can just leave them alone for the rest of the game. But, throw a powerfist in there, and they can kill off whatever it is and get back into the fight.

    Yeah...
Tragic: Thanx for the input, I've thought about it and your right and I've updated the squads.
Fallen: I've psted a photo (up top) of a metal terminator, sans head and racks, with plastic arms.. as suspected they seem to big!

Looking at the line up I think i might have spead the FW bits a bit thin but, I guess that was the deal when i decided to stretch to 30 T's...
also one or two of the hybrids with FW bodies seem a lil shorter... adds a little character i think in a nurgle force?

    yeah... updated 5th july..
I've added photos to the third post...
I got a new small camera with a macro to take photos of minis, I had been using my SLR but all my lens for it are better suited to my second hobby - band photography.
I think this new camera takes pretty good close up shots although quite a few are distorted big heads and little legs... I guess i'll get better with it.

It's been awhile since i last updated, so many other things happening.

Nice looking bunch Panic, all that variety is great. Normally I'd balk at combining the different scales and generations of termi - metal, plastic, resin - but I think it's working well for you. And 30 nurgle termies = pretty solid backbone to an army

    thanx for the comments,
Yeah I love the nurgling head dude too! i'm thinking about sticking another nurgling head or two in there.
having 30 terminators will be cool, for most games i can pick and choose the terminators/armamment i want for the game at hand...
When they are all painted... I Can't wait to play all thirty in a game, i'll probabliy get wiped out it'll be fun...

i'm also regreting doing 30.. staring at what still needs doing is soul destroying, especially when i have three units that i want to move onto oblitertors vindcators and maybe a defiler....
