Hey guys. I know this type of thread may be more at home in Swap Shop but since I'm mainly looking for feedback I'm posting it here instead.

A few years ago I ran a commission service to help get me through uni, and now I'm thinking about returning to it full time.

If it's kosher, I plan on using this thread to keep you guys updated and to receive feedback/criticism in order to improve my work.

Here's a sample of some of my better work over the last few years. Feel free to PM me if you're interested (all business related stuff will be kept to PMs). I'm in Sydney, Australia, so I know a lot of you guys won't have to pay through the nose for international shipping.

Let me know what you think. Thanks for your time =]

I like quite a bit of it.

Do you do FOW stuff? My fat troll hands can't handle the little figs. I can barely get them on their bases.

I think this post is kosher so long as it's:

1. Not straight up advertising
2. Specific Foods prepared in a specific way

Isn't The Warhammer Forum based Down Under? Might
be a good place to build up contacts and feedback. The work
looks nice (particularly the strong yellow stands out), but
I'm not one inclined to pay someone to paint my stuff.

Stelek - I've never tried, but I've done epic stuff before so I'm sure I could figure it out

Malfred - Nah, Warhammer Forum is UK based, but I was thinking of posting there anyway. The yellow on those marines (not the chapter master) was long before Iyanden Darksun. You're looking at about 4 layers of brown and 6 layers of yellow over black

This will definitely be kosher ^_^.

You're looking for input on how to improve, not just showcase your work! Plus, this is a great way to build a sense of community with potential customers!

Personally, I wish more folks would do something along these lines!

As for your work so far:

You really have a good handle on color transition as well as a broad range. That will definitely help out as you move forward more seriously with commission work.

Hope to see you continue to update this regularly as you get back to work!

Your reds are really, really good. The flamers are also a really good showcase of your skill with blended color.

Best of luck with your service. Keep in mind that an initial discounted offering for first-time customers helps draw in customers in any service. Pricing it close to your lowest sustainable labor cost for a demo mini (or demo small unit) will build goodwill with customers, and probably net you support on forums. Word of mouth is really good advertisement with painting services. One slick banner ad will also help you a lot too.

looks good, but you need better pictures so show how good they are. don't let bad pics sell your talent short.

Thanks again for all the encouragement guys. I should have pointed out that all the unbased photos are wips. I focus a lot more on the painting, which is something I'm trying to rectify. Tonight I'll have shots up of my latest, with my new camera too so hopefully I can make this work =]

I like the look of your work quite well too. I think if you can do that fairly rapidly you will be in good shape.
I am with Malfred that I don't generally consider paying someone else to paint my stuff, but if I ever do decide to start that WHFB Ork army, I would be willing to pay for that level of skill I think. For the right price anyway.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

I see why it is called the boobworm.

yellow!

I come here everyday, it was worth it to look at the pictures. Also, you made your intentions clear in the title.

those are the best painted lizards and horrors? (or flamers) I have seen.

honestly I'd consider getting you to paint my Carnosaur if it wasn't in Australia, which seems to be almost a seperate planet as far as shipping is concerned.

love the flamers, did you use alot of inks or straight up blending?

one thing i did notice was that the armour of the imperial fist(???) sargent was not nearly as defined (black lined) as the rest of the regular marines, i think he would look kinda outta place in a squad with the rest of em, but thats just my opinion.

Yeah, the squad and old captain were before Foundation paint, the chapter master was after. There's about 3 years between them and they aren't part of the same army. I don't know which I prefer, the blacklining is cool but looks cartoonish, whereas yellow on its own is a pain to shade.

Where are you located? Shipping to the US at least for minis never costs me more than about $10 AU.

As for the flamers I used straight up blending. It was my first time experimenting with it and they're great models to do it on, with all those curved surfaces. =]

No. VA USA

for yellow shading, I find that either a good stiff orange or brownish orange works well.

vomit brown and bubonic brown were good shadows in my opinion.

You could also try starting your yellows on a white primer and then blocking with your shade color or using orange or chestnut ink to shade your yellows.
