Hi guys. I need some help creating my own home batch of the GW ARDCOAT. This is the stuff that GW discontinued last month. It comes in the normal paint pots, and has a thick milky texture to it. Several painting studios make this stuff in large batches with their own brew. Does anyone know what items I need to buy or mix to make this stuff.

I'm looking to use it to glaze my guys and help in getting them painted faster. I normally mix ARDCOAT, Ink Color of Choice, and a bit of water. This make a nice dye that pushes itself into all the little corners on figures. It cuts the painting time to minutes instead of hours and makes for a great end product. BTP did a great job painting up one of my IG armies and I want to reproduce the effect. I tried talking to the owner, but as expected its a company secret.

He did say it does not involve any type of oil based product. He also pointed out that no floor wax of any kind is used in making this special brew.

Any help would be more then appreciated. Thanks guys.

Ardcoat is a glossy VARNISH, but the way you are using it, you might want to take a good look at MATT MEDIUM or even GLOSS MEDIUM.

Both of those are terrific for mixing the inks the way that you've talked about.

I'm just curious, are you talking about Guide-coating the minis before you apply paint? Or are you talking about inking them afterwards? Because the second option should be done with some MINWAX, and is called dipping.

However, for Guide-coating, you actually apply the ink beforehand (over a white undercoat) then the paint takes the shading from underneath it.
