Hi all !

This is my first post here so I thought I shortly introduce mayself and the army that I'm working on

My name is Hauke aka Captain Engelhardt from Germany, and I'm mostly active on some other boards (B&C, TheGreatCrusade, e.g.).

So far so good, here is what I plan to use as my next army:

After rereading Galaxy in Flames again, I'was tempted to build up a small 1k points army of Guardians of the Choral City from Istvaan III, using Vardus Praal as overall commander. Also I wanted to include flying Guardians, and a huge organ with monstrous pipes and lots of servitors. I hope some of you have read the book and can give some critism concerning the models I'm building. Of course you can comment if you didn't read the book, too

Here is the Imperial Commander of Istvaan III, Vardus Praal:
Pre-painting:
And painted:

Then there's a prototype warrior and a sergeant:

And this is going to be one of the centrepieces of the army, a huge organ with servitors playing the music of the gods to encourage the Choral City's warriors (note that it's still very WIP):

Ok, this is it for now, I hope you like them
I will appreciate all kind of comments

Greetings,

Captain Engelhardt

Uhh ... Whoa!

Welcome to Dakka, particularly when you come bearing pics - cool ones at that! I honestly don't remember much about the choral city in GiF, but this is some very nice stuff you've done so far. Is it going to use chaos rules?

Sorry I can't give you comments in line with the book's fluff, but I like what I see, you've done a great job on the organ and Praal himself

Great work, I've never read the book, maybe you could explain the fluff a little in regard to the models you post? If not, I'll just enjoy the great figures

Awsome figures, and great paintwork, they really fit with the background for them

Great Figs, Praal looks a bit more armored than I envisaged, but still a cool model. What rule set are you using for these, BTW?

Thanks for all the replies, guys

@Boss_Salvage: Thanks man, I think the time on this board will be a good one

@Platuan4th: I'm not sure which ruleset to use, I thought about Sisters of Battle, Slaaneshi CSM or Eldar. Any suggestions ?

@DaMaGe: Oh yeah, here is a bit of fluff to sum it up for you:
Vardus Praal, the Imperial Governor lead a rebellion against the Imperium, more or less obviously driven by the Chaos Gods (Slaanesh or Tzeentch most likely). The Emperor made Horus crush the rebellion. Horus tookm that as a chance to get rid of all the folks that was still loyal to the Emp in his fleet. So he sent them all down the planet, and while they were battling Praal's forces, Horus bombed the planet to death, killing both marines and Praal's rebels. That said, I really liked how the soldiers of Istvaan III were displayed in GiF, so I wanted to start an army of these. Praal, enforced through the Chaosgods (what he called "the music of the spheres" or "the voices of the gods") lead his palace guard against the Emperor's Children. He made extensive use of sonic weapons, such as sonic blasters and organs.

The more models I post the more background I'll post for them, ok ?

I have some more things planned, including a mob of angry civilians converted from WhFB Flaggellants, and some other stuff

Till then,

Capt. E.

Praal looks amazing, but too Chaosy for the time period, imo. He'd have the sound pipes, but that big goofy face right behind his torso is just throwing me off, lol. The spear, however, is awesome. And your sculpting is pretty nice as well.

Here's some more: an idea of the painted organ (although still PIP):

And a mob of angry Istvaanians...who have to face the World Eaters unfortunately

you should include a choir unit, have a load of cultists with loudspeakers for mouths carrying large chaotic guitar-style amplifiers on thier backs and for the demagogue you should have a sort of choir master that looks just as disturbing urging them to sing,

loudspeaker mouth should kind of look like this:

(sorry it is bad pic, if you can imagine that coming out of a bare head, kind of creepy)

Wow, I want to read it now. Really good job, that organ should make a great centerpiece! does it have any in game effect? All those chaosy sounds give your guys +1 to hit or -1 on enemy troops to hit I like the commander, I'm guessing he's a chaos lord. I think he needs a cape or cloak tho but thats just me.
