My Death Guard conversion kits arrived today so I thought I would do a review for anyone interested in the models but unsure about purchasing them for some reason, be it price, international shipping concerns or maybe just hesitant about working with resin models.

Purchasing from Forge World:

I pre-ordered these kits the day they went up on pre-order, which was in late Febuary, with the release being April 7th. My bank account was charged when the order was processed, which I believe was on or around the 7th of April. They arrived today, the 23rd of April, so the shipping took just over 2 weeks, which is pretty quick for international shipping and especially quick due to the high volume of sale FW is having right now. They currently state that one should expect a 28 day wait for shipments. Whether or not my pre-order sped up the shipping process, I'm not sure, but I'm not complaining about the quick shipment!

I bank with Wells Fargo, who charged me a currency conversion fee of $2.74 and the exchange rate from pounds to dollars came in at just under $90( I forget the exact amount but I think is was $89 something with shipping) for 2 sets. It's bit expensive when you consider you still need the plastic CSM set to complete the models, but seeing the models up close you realize they are worth every penny. Additionally, you can always just bitz order legs and arms to save money instaed of buying the full CSM set to complete this kit.

The Models

The models are fantastic. Have look:

There was minimal flash on all but one sprue and a few mold injection points that will be a bit of an inconvenience to clean up but there are no serious air bubbles or defects on any of the models. There were also no molds lines that I noticed.

The models match up very well with the CSM set and are in good proportion. The torsos at first glance looked a little large but once I matched up bits to them they fit great and looked great with the plastic bits.

I guess the one down side for some people is that you really want to convert the plastic bits to look more nurgley to match the torsos. This isn't a concern for me but for anyone who doesn't have any greenstuff experience it may seem more trouble than it's worth.

Conclusion

I personally think these kits are worth the high cost. The molds were all in great condition with none of the defects that FW can sometimes be known for. I was very pleased with Forge World's service and I'll definitely be ordering from them again. I hope this helps anyone thinking about getting these kits but hesitant about dealing with Forge World or spending so much money on the kit. You won't regret it if you buy them, I promise!

You can never beat your first time. The second generation is shinier, stronger, faster and superior in every regard save one, and it's an unfair criticism to level, but it simply can't be as original. - Andy Chambers, on the evolution of Games Workshop games

Nice. Have you considered writing this up in the Articles

I have a question while its not directly connecting to this topic, are the Forge World Models like the Orc Squiggoth "Legal"? Like could I use it in a tournament, because stomppin' my foe with a giant squig would probably be the most rewarding thing in the world. True Orcy-ness.

Throw enough Goblins at anything and it should go away, at the very least there will be less Goblins.

What does Eric Clapton and Coffee have in common? Both suck without Cream.

The 'legality' of Imperial Armor rules in tournaments is always up the tournament organizer.

US Grand Tournaments do not use Imperial Armor rules although some Indy GTs (like Adepticon and the Necronomicon) do. Check with the tournie organizer of the tournament you're planning on attending to find out for sure.

That said, *all* tournaments (that I know of) allow Forgeworld models to be used in a 'counts-as' capacity for standard units in the codex.

So, for example, one could use the Forgeworld Squiggoth to represent a Battlewagon with a Deathrolla.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

I've got 10 spare CSM legs that I haven't used yet, and exactly what I need to make up the rest of my Death Guard army (6 squads of 7 Marines). I look forward to getting this kit and a couple of Terminator ones.
