This is a list i just played in my search or the optimised 1000 pt tau list and this is an awesome army i just played...

HQ

Shas'o (MT, PR, MT) 112

ELITES

2 'ui Crisis (2MP, 2PR, 2TA, 2HWMT) 144

2 'ui Crisis (2MP, 2PR, 2TA, 2HWMT) 144

2 'ui Crisis (2MP, 2PR, 2TA, 2HWMT) 144

TROOPS

9 Firewarriors 90

9 Firewarriors 90

HEAVY SUPPORT

2 Broadsides (1HWTA, 'vre, 2SD, 2ASS) 205

1Sniper drone team (80)

TOTAL POINTS - 994 pts

So this is a hybridish list and was played in a cleanse mission and due to the game being stopped at turn 4 the result was a draw...

I played blood angels with a large squad of death company and a chaplin, a 5-man squad with a missile launcher and plasma gun, a 5-man squad with a flamer, a 5-man devastator squad with 3 multi-meltas, and a 5-man devastator squad with 2 lascannons and 2 missile launchers...

We each had 650 points left (exactly 650...) and so the game was a draw...

What do you think of this list as an all-comer hybridish list?

need more fire warriors as they are much better/more important than anything else in the list.

Honestly I don't like it. I feel like my orks would wipe the board with this list, because I agree entirely with Bastirous; there are not enough fire warriors. I doubt this list has enough shots to put down enough non-meq opponents before they hit your lines.
This seems more an anti-meq list, not so much a take all comers list, which is probably why he drew with your BA. There is also a lack of mobility, but that is probably not a major drawback considering it is tau and you are more likely to sit and shoot than anything else.

actually the best tau tactic, fish of fury, demands lots of movement on the tau players part. fire warriors in devil fish can make or break the tau gameplay, so i suggesting moving some points around to get at least one fire warrior unit in a devil fish

bastirous (why do you have the devil's number in your account name?) did you read the topic...?

The topic states "NO vehicle"...

Nice...

I'm going to agree and disagree with Bastirious on this one. I agree that you need vehicles. Hammerheads are too good to pass up. However, the mobile infantry approach you're taking can work. I don't think more fire warriors are the answer though. I actually HATE them. Kroot work better for me, and I'd highly suggest using a few units as screening for the broadsides and other suits, as well as a pillbox unit to sit in cover. My opponents either waste time killing off a 70 point unit, thus saving my other stuff, or ignore them and they contest/hold/whatever the objective to win the game.

Oh and this 'Fish of Fury' thing is more of a last ditch effort in my eyes. Don't bother with it unless you like bunching your FW's up to eat a template next turn.

the fish of fury if done correctly can put it so the firewarriors have two turns to shoot without being charged or able to be hit by templates save from vehicles, and tau should easily have picked off any template vehicles quickly with broadsides.

don't use hammerheads. i'd say a good list here would be to use 9 broadsides, and then fill in with 6-8 crisis suits and fire warriors, and maybe a small unit or two of kroot. but i cannot stress enough on how important it is to have at least 3-4 units of 12 fire warriors. any list i see of tau without 3-4 units of fire warriors makes me laugh, and i just get ready for an easy game ahead of me

What exactly is a "hybrid" list?

9 Broadsides, 6-8 Crisis suits, 1-2 units of Kroot, and 3-4 full-strength units of FWs in 1000 points? Let's see that list.

Are none of you pro Tau players going to point out that normal Crisis battlesuits can't take hard-wired systems? Come on, guys.

okay...

@kov- thx i was thinking about that i think you're right in every way... this was just an attempt at a no vehicle list, but normally i have 2 hammerheads... I also think the kroot are a good idea i just don't know just what to get rid of...

@bastirous- 9 BROADSIDES??? 4 MAX FOF SQUADS??? AND 6-8 CRISIS AND 2 KROOT??? wow man... great suggestions for like 2k...

@auduro- hybrid is a bit of static tau mixed with some mobile tau...

right i managed to forget what points the guy was playing at here. dumb mistake on my part. yea i'd say then 2 broadsides, three 12man fire warrior units and then fill in with whatever should do fine

The original list posted is illegal, it has 3 battlesuit opitions with a 4th on each one, only the team leader can take 3 and then start taking hard wired opitions.

If you are trying to go NO skimmer I would mass up on fire warriors and in each squad take 2 shield drones for the extra long range survivability. Also take a couple of squads of gun drones to stop the charge for an extra turn of up close shooting. Firewarriors in mass with the shield drones will be a nice tuff nut for your enemy especially if they don't have any pie plates.

You of course will want to bring the broadsides for the anti tank punch. Again shield drones are a must.

gun drones are fine too as they save points. for the battlesuits they should have gun drones, and fire warrior squads could take shield drones (but only at high point games)

I wouldn't even take crisis suits for 1000pts unless you take a lot of them. More points spent on FW the better, I would also consider deepstriking the commander if there is a hiding pie slinger as well. For 1000 pts I would run something like this, granted that I would only play loyalist tau:

HQ: FireKnife

TROOPS: 3x 12 FW W/ 2SD

FAST ATTACK: 2x 5 GD

HEAVY SUPPORT: 3x 1 BS W/ 2SD

This is about 997pts. Nice amount of models that can take a decent amount of fire without crumbling as well as dishing out a good amount themselves. Of course you are playing tau so the rule of thumb is to shoot up as much as you can while they enemy advances and when the remaining units get to you throw every unit you have against whatever is coming your way. Use the 2 squads of gun drones to delay a round of assault so that you get one more turn of rapid firing before they charge you. When they do you will still have a lot of FW to throw at them.

Try as best as you can to play by the book, that is, using 25% terrain and take turns setting up a piece at a time. You want to set up terrain to create solid fire lanes.

This isn't a hybrid list, it is a static one. I gave a static strategy because that seemed to be the direction you were going, unless I missed something.

EDIT: yes I did miss something the title has hybridish in it sorry, I will post another list soon.
