Alright so this is what I put together for my list, which is my first list since I re-picked up the hobby after a ten-year hiatus. A lot has changed since then and I've been loving the new Tyranid codex. It's what I played back in the days of Junior High, and I enjoy the familiarity and the new models are just awesome.

So I put this together after some research and careful though, but it's yet to see the board for testing. I've read a lot about Nidzilla lists and decided I wanted to stray from those, since the shops most people game at where I live seem to have a silly preoccupation with "hobby" lists and would probably chase me off if I came to play with one. In that vein, I hope that what I have isn't too big-bug heavy, 'cause I do have several TMCs I field...

On with the show.

HQ

Hive Tyrant 211 points
-Flying, Scything Talons x2, Adrenal Glands (WS, I), Bio-Plasma, Toxin Sacs, Toxic Miasma, Warp Field

Elites

Carnifex 114 points
-Twin-Linked Devourers x2, Enhanced Senses, Flesh Hooks

Fast Attack

Ravener 40 points
-Scything Talons and Rending Claws

Heavy Support

-Barbed Strangler, Venom Cannon, Enhanced Senses, Reinforced Chitin, Flesh Hooks
Carnifex 164 points
-Barbed Strangler, Venom Cannon, Enhanced Senses, Reinforced Chitin, Flesh Hooks
Zoanthrope 65 points
-Warp Blast, Synapse Creature

2000 points exactly. I like this list, I've started building most of the MCs and the genestealers are about halfway done. But I'm open to suggestions. I'd like to find 10 points to put a devourer on the ravener, to give him some extra firepower for harassment (his primary role). Keep in mind I've never actually played a game, so if there's some key insight I'm missing don't hesitate to tear my list apart! Thanks guys!

It's a pretty good looking list. I'm a big fan of Flesh Hooks on shooting Fexes in the off chance there's impassible terrain, park it in there and you got an unassaultable shooting platform.

You've got a bunch of junk your Tyrant really doesn't need. I'd take the Bioplasma off the Tyrant since a smart player will pull the model you're assaulting and deny your attacks. Unless you plan on IC hunting the Miasma and Adrenal glands aren't worth it either. Even then you only need to boost WS once, since most characters are WS5.

Your Zoanthrope is going to be left in the dust by scuttling stealers, which isn't a major problem since they're Ld10. Use the points for another Ravener.

Ravener shooting is kind of meh.

The thrope is for the big carnifexes, I'm not worried about the stealers being out of synapse, since they don't need it anyway. He stays not only because he's one of my favorite models, but I know from watching people that he also draws fire for some weird reason.

That's some insight on the tyrant that I needed. In regards to the bio-plasma, I'm not sure what you mean by "a smart player will pull to deny you the attack," though, could you be more specific?

I'll be dropping the miasma and the I adrenal glands, though. Maybe switch them out for an Implant Attack? That looks attractive.

Not to steal avantgarde's thunder, but the way it works is as follows:

Bioplasma goes off at Initiative 10. If it does nothing, it does nothing. If it kills someone, your opponent will usually remove the model your tyrant was in base contact with (assuming he just charged, so there's only one model in BtB). Then, at I6 or I5, when your tyrant gets the rest of his attacks, he's no longer engaged and doesn't get to make the attacks that would probably have killed more than one model from the enemy squad.

It can help if you're planning on having him assault skimmers, since it will still hit on a 4+, but it's something to consider when you're weighing whether bioplasma is worth its cost.

Hi,

For the love of the sweet hive mind never take bio plasma ever as it has been explained to you it is the worst upgrade in the codex. Drop the ravener, it's just free points to your opponent, trust me. ST is not a worth while upgrade and you need to give them all scuttlers if you want to be successful with the. I would drop the zoanthrope as well and another genestealer from one of the squads and get another elite carnifex.

Bye

I'm grateful for the suggestions, however I really like the zoanthrope and ravener models, and frankly I'm okay with them being shot at. It means less shots being fired at the genestealers, which are really the teeth of the army. Also, I really want to limit the number of MCs I have to exactly what appears here. Any more and I foresee folks giving me a hard time. Nidzilla is fiercely hated here in the A-Town. So, a revised list is:

Hive Tyrant 194 points

This means I have to remake about 20 genestealers with the talons already glued in, but I'm okay with that (Anyone know a decent solvent for super glue?). I'm also considering dropping the Warp Blast on the 'thrope as it doesn't seem likely I'll ever get him in good range, unless people come to him, which I'm fine with. I was considering giving him Psyching Scream instead, but, again, the 18" range seems too prohibitive to be of much use for a unit that will get shot at a lot.

Any other insights?

Keep warp blast, it's not very good but it's still better than psychic scream. Give your tyrant +S and drop implant attack, S is more important. Without S, anything you would want to do two wounds to you're gonna wound on 3's and 5's, instead of 2's and 4's.
