On moon miranda.

allrighty, new Hordes list. I wanted to make an Archaeon style list (I will be using him as the lord until the november book comes out) and wanted to see if I could make a decent list using just warriors, knights, a couple sorcerers and a beefy lord.

let me know what you think!

Lord of Chaos-Sword of Battle, Armor of Damnation, Chaos Runeshield, Daemon Mount. 350pts

2x Sorceror- Level 2 upgrade, Daemonic Mount, Dispell Scroll, Power Stone. Lore of Fire. (Flaming Sword, Fiery blast) 185pts each

4x 15 Chaos Warriors, Full Command, Shields. 225pts

1x 5 Chosen Knights, Full Command-240pts

2x 5 Chaos Knights, full command -190pts.

2240pts.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

A few thoughts from me, might as well go by unit ...

Lord of Chaos-Sword of Battle, Armor of Damnation, Chaos Runeshield, Daemon Mount. 350pts
Illegal! The armor and runeshield are both magic armor, so can only take 1 of them. It's a hard choice for me too, but in the end I think I'd go with the Damn Armor + mundane shield, as that screws with everybody and the runeshield just screws over those who depend on magic weapons. I guess the demonic mount is to match the Archaon model? Fair enough, and I think the fact it has W1 means it isn't a monster mount now, right?? Also, I prefer the Sword of Might myself, S6 is tastier than +1A to me.

2x Sorceror- Level 2 upgrade, Daemonic Mount, Dispell Scroll, Power Stone. Lore of Fire. (Flaming Sword, Fiery blast) 185pts each
Decent builds here. The mounts I don't like much, I think sticking them on barded steeds is better, gets them nice 2+ armor ftw. Unless you want 3x big monster horses running around? M9 isn't bad but unless you can pop off flaming sword I'd think these dudes would be accompanying some warriors and providing missile support.

4x 15 Chaos Warriors, Full Command, Shields. 225pts
Soooo many points in 60 so-so infantry. The models are nice though, and hey, it's Archaon ... Ignoring the options available to these guys, I prefer to leave them be but drop 1 of the 4. I have plans for their points ...

1x 5 Chosen Knights, Full Command-240pts

2x 5 Chaos Knights, full command -190pts

I don't really like knights, but ah well. The chosen are certainly sexy (and cannon bait!), considered any marks for them? MoS ain't bad, and MoK is still the old classic, and hell MoN and MoT have their uses. Points would come from downgrading the sorcerers' mounts and maybe messing with the warrior commands.

Hellcannon - 270
I didn't see this in your list, so with the points for dropping 1 warrior unit and the runeshield you can grab the biggest, meanest gun around. If I were playing Chaos Mortals I can't think of a reason not to take it.

EDIT

L: Lord of Chaos - sword of might, armor of damnation, shield, demonic mount = 315
H: Sorcerer - power stone, dispel scroll, level 2, barded steed = 170
H: Sorcerer - power stone, dispel scroll, level 2, barded steed = 170

C: 15 Warriors - full command, shields = 225
C: 15 Warriors - full command, shields = 225
C: 15 Warriors - full command, shields = 225
C: 5 Warhounds = 30

S: 5 Chosen Knights - full command = 240
S: 5 Choas Knights - full command = 190
S: 5 Chaos Knights - full command = 190

RR: Hellcannon = 270

Total: 2250 points

Something like that :S

I just want to say that I am so glad the Hell Cannon isn't 600 freaking' points anymore. I might actually paint mine now.

As you were.

it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

Oh, and I think you could usefully find room for some fast cavalry in that list.

Aye, taking a chainsaw to some of those full commands would strip the points out to get 5 marauder cav w/ musician + spears ...

From my experience, the hellcannon is so bad that I want to see it in my opponent's list. It is too easily tricked into slaughtering the Chaos army. From what i have seen, the best use for the hellcannon is to never use the cannon, and instead push it across the table and use it in hand to hand. There has to be a better hand to hand unit in the chaos army, though...

When was the Hellcannon 600 points?

I can understand the desire to field Warriors, but I fear them still being cost prohibitive. As I worked on building my Chaos army, I stopped fielding them entirely.

(Granted, I stopped fielding infantry entirely, but that's not gonna be an option now, is it?)

I hate to say this, but I think fielding 'Chaos Elves' is going to be the way to go: Beefy characters, a handful of throw away Marauder units, and serious points dumped into Special choices. Dance around the enemy, pepper them with magic and Hellcannon fire, then pound into the enemy.

Antonin, I've seen the Hellcannon serve me better than some of my Empire machines - the Rocket Battery may be a joke, in the end. Yes, like so many other things, one bad roll can spell doom for your side, but what are the odds? 1 in 6 of Misfiring, then 1 in 6 of eating all the crew. Just make sure it's got good line of sight and get the rest of your army the hell away from it.
