Here in Sunny Queensland Australia its the Queen's Birthday long weekend and I have the whole weekend off.... sweet.
So we packed the car and headed up to my wife's relatives in Toowoomba (200km away) for the weekend.
It has turned ito a weekend where we do waht she says as we are here for a start, and we are watching the sex an the city movie later today.
In an hour or so I'm off to here brother's house to race my petrol remote control car vs his in his huge yard. Which should be great.
Our dog just ate m WD so has been banished outside... I was not amused as I had only read the LOTR section and had moved onto the painting section. So have to go and buy another WD to read the WHFB and 40k sections.
What are others up to?

Wasted most of Saturday mucking around with the new Foxtel HD box (well, that is, my Dad mucking around with it and us just sitting there watching him get more and more confused). End story? The TV can now play files off the hard-drive in the other room, but not with sound. Everything else works though.
Today and Monday though I've got people coming over for multiple games of 40K. I'm using my Guard, and I've missed them. Haven't used them since early Jan.

The european football cup started yesterday so I watched that with my friends and then we went into the city for the afterparty. It was a single, huge party along the lake and the river.
Today I don't know...Might go watch another game with my friends in the stadium. Don't know. For sure though 40k's going to be on hold for the next two weeks.

Summer Session is going to start full swing for me come Monday, so I have about 30 problems for my intermediate algebra class due tomorrow, in addition to my political science class start Monday as well. I have the whole floor in my room covered in dirty laundry I need to clean up. 10 Possessed CSM to prime if it is not windy today. I need to put my painting on the stretcher-bar I made for it and staple it on to finish it. Hang up my game table and vacuum the room it was in. Order some R12 refrigerant for my truck so that I have AC when I travel to Sacramento for my dad's retirement party on the 13th.

If you were thinking of going to see sex and the city movie don't, its way overhyed and nowhere near as good as the TV show.
The cinema had around 100 women, and 5 men (all with significant others).

Bear in mind that I have seen almost every epsode because my wife is a huge fan and she watches the DVDs all the time (even she was let down)
The movie was too long (although there was alot to jam in).
3 40 year old women and 1 50 year old women still acting like they are in their twenties is nowhere near as good as it was in the TV series when they were in their early to mid thirties.
Now there is an edge of sad desperation.
The blatant consumerism leaves you almost sick by the end with the sheer wasting of money on high end brands (most of which look awful). Its not like they go out and splurge on something really exotic/expensive once a month. Its a continual spend fest the whole way through.
Sarah jessica Parker needs to get off the atkins diet- she was as muscular as madonna...

Exhausting weekend for me, real kick to the chest. So much so I was happy to be headed to work today, WTF? Friday -- Built some models, had a couple beers, played some computer games (been painting continually, so a night off is nice). Saturday -- Drove 3.5 hours to Albany, NY to look at apartments. In 95 degree heat. Fiancee and I looked at some horrible apartments in bad neighborhoods, but came away with a few good hits that might work for school next year. So not as depressing as I was feeling around 3:00. Then 3.5 hour drive home, blasting AC and ignoring very tired eyes at that point. Then after shower, get in bed before 12:00 and the fiancee drops on me that we may not be getting married next June after all - more like in 5 years, when I'm 30 and done with grad school and she decides that I'm worthy afterall. I was pretty pissed and passed out eventually, nothing resolved. Sunday -- Got up, much strained space between us. Finally opened it back up with her and got successively madder, AC in our apartment not overcoming the 95+ degrees outside. Nothing resolved, she leaves to go swim and I go to try out Khorne demons. Horrible game, lose totally against Sisters (not surprising) but did kill 1/2 his army and lasted 5 turns, so whatev. Then dicked around, did errands, cleaned the place, more strain between me and the woman. Later based my painted nurgle stuff, which was horrible and involved a lot of removing sand from painted models. Anger mounted, woman went to bed, I basically just sat for 30 min and stewed, then went to bed myself. Guh. Next week is Games Day though, so will be out with the local lads in geekland, then Hooters for dinner. Also another 6 hour roundtrip with me driving, but whatever in this case - Salvage

1) She's staying here, I'm the one moving. So the actual move isn't the issue, and after grad school I don't plan on staying in NY - but who knows.
2) That was my problem a year ago before I popped the question, but I got over it and after a lot of thought decided to go for it and 'seal my fate.' I think for her it's that marriage is a big deal in general and shouldn't be rushed (see below)
3) This may be the best of your four, she's worried what being so far apart for all that time will do. It does suck, enormously, but I thought we could make it work every other weekend and then school holidays. The fact that she has doubts at all makes my own fears the worse ... Also she wants to make sure 'we're the same people we fell in love with' after we get done with school (she's doing an MBA here while I'm in NY). So the distance and pure time apart are making her rethink everything, and question the hell out of the future.
4) Besides my temper apparently :S I actually handle heat pretty well. Though yeah, my deoderant easily gave out shortly after I put it on, holy crap
5) You forgot the part about me being irresponsible and unreliable, and her having wished for a year now for me to change and not seeing it. So she wants to wait up to five years and see if I shape up. Yeah ...
In another life I'd have gotten a worthwhile degree in school and have a decent job I didn't hate, she wouldn't be quite so stressed at work ("But I like my work" she retorts), we could buy a house and live happily ever after. But right now, who the feth knows.
Sorry to put this all out there Dakka, just in a bad place with no answers. I return you to 5th edition and the latest space marine models.
- Salvage

You can't step in the same river twice. Part of a long term relationship is understanding that you, and she, will change. Right now neither of you are that same person.

I work in a different city than where I live (drive back on weekends). It can be done. Its hard but if you had an actual timeline then it would be easier.
As for weekends. Birthday parties for wife and mom (no jokes from NOBODY!). Kids also had birthday parties to attend. Painting demonettes and church otherwise. Slightly boring as wife was busy with girl scout registrations and it kind of tied us down. Next week going back to Cali, for ironically, a friend's graduation. Goin back Cali Cali goin back to Cali...

Sorry to hear that Salvage. My girlfriend and I are planning on getting married after I finish law school next year, so we're sidestepping that big problem. I have a ring ordered from a local jeweler back home that does amazing custom work, but they're not happy with any of the diamonds they've seen, so the soon to be Lady Polonius is pretty anxious.
This weekend, we spent firday evening crafting, she made flip flops while I painted two IG special weapon squads and we watched Beauty and the Geek on the computer.
Saturday I met one of her old friends, another guy. He's not competition (he bats for the other team), but his stereotypical attention seeking behavior and outright rudeness to me left a really bad taste in my mouth (he sat next to her at lunch, interrupted me a few times, spent the whole time talking about himself, and ignored me when I said "it was nice to meet you" while leaving). I did find a pair of Vasqu Sundowners, a pair of boots that I was told here out of production, but this little shop had a pair half off. Score!
Sunday my lady and I went to the church we want to get married at and met with the pastor. I was raised catholic and she was raised baptist, so neither of our churches is particularly interested in the job, so we went to the Methodists. God bless centrists. It's a lovely church and a great vibe, so we're going to book it.
All in all, a busy weekend. I have an interview for a job tomorrow, hopefully my run of unemployment will end before classes resume....

Got my first weekend off that didn’t require me to specifically request it in about 26 months. We finally promoted a couple more supervisors to replace the two who left early this year, so myself and the other one aren’t running so ragged. And as I now have seniority, I can pass the mantle of Saturdays (got out of Sundays last Fall) on to the new generation.
The wife and I spent lots of quality time Saturday, which was a pleasant change, watching multiple movies (she saw Raiders of the lost Ark for the first time; though she likes Last Crusade better), and generally being happy.
Sunday was D&D, still 3.5 for the existing campaigns, though everyone’s excitedly checking out 4th, and it looks like I’ll be drafted to run the first 4th ed campaign for my Sunday group.
