Ok, so I've decided it's time for me to start playing Fantasy again, I was contemplating DE but after finding this guy tucked away I liked my color scheme so I think I'm going to go with Wood Elves. Of course, now I need to get the Army book, figure out what I want to use, and get the minis. But for now, here's my proposed scheme for the Elves..

The pics are a little messed up due to the lighting, I'l lbuild a light box at some point....

On a side note, how do people represent a Treeman Ancient?

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. With an impending auction on the horizon mankind holds its breath as it waits to see who will gain possession of the corpse-god and thus, the fate of humanity......

I'd say a light box would be a very welcome addition to your arsenal. From what I can see though, your red blending looks really clean. Nice work!

wood elves are a nice army
great shooting with some good combat flanking units.
You get a free wood so make sure you chuck one in your figure case as they help a lot during your game. You dont count them as dif ter so you can hide units in them.
Decent LD
Move and shoot with no penelty

Issue I have had with planning my WE army is a decent amount of dispel. But there are options to get around it. Best bet is the magical std which gives magic res 1 to things in I think 12inch range.

For tree man ancients I would sugest geenstuffing a load of sprites on maybe? That is probably the way I would try it. It is quite a unique model so difficult to convert and make unique IMO.

WFB - Orcs, Demon Nurgle (not updated), Zombie Pirates/ Vamp Counts, Tomb Kings, Wood Elves

The colors make me think "autumn leaves." If you keep a warm pallete of browns, reds, oranges, golds and a few greens you will have something distinct. Everyone just uses lots of greens. Your scheme is different an dyou should run with it.

Thanks for the comments. I was going for the autumn scheme but unfortunately I painted this guy when the Wood Elves were released and haven't painted much since.
My first objective is to try and remember/ replicate this scheme...

I don't think you need to "replicate" your test paint job, per se. Just keep the same palate tones... autumnal reds, browns, and greens. Every model doesn't need to be rank and file identical as if they were codex marines, ya know. In fact, with such a non-regimented force, they probably SHOULDN'T be rank and file identical... just a thought.

There is an attitude that not having an insanely optimized, one shot, six stage, omnidirectional, inevitable, mousetrap of an assassin list army somehow means that you have foolishly wasted your life building 500 points of pure, 24 karat, hand rolled, fine, cuban fail. That attitude has been shown, under laboratory conditions, to cause cancer of the fun gland.

Well by replicate I mean that when I paint Red, it'll come out relatively the same shade, same with the green.
I actually think the WE models lend themselves to this style naturally as the models all have armor in different places, different bows, etc. Out of the box, the models are already not uniform.

So I picked up the book and a Batallion. I think what I am aiming for as a core selection of models to pick and choose from is 30x Glade Guard, 24x Dryads, and 15x Glade Riders. This should give me some pretty good flexibility for core troops. Probably some Wild Riders and Wardancers as well. DOes anyone know how the Reaper Great Eagle compares in size to the GW one? It's such a fantastic model I think I'd rather use that then the GW Great Eagle.

For comparison:

- Looks like it's about to kill something

- looks like it's sad

It looks quite a bit larger, but who knows what size base that is under it and it's way more badass!

I also remembered how much I hate assembling models, or more to the point cleaning off mold lines. I'm so meticulous about it that it takes forever. Is it worth it in the end? Yes, but it's still a pain. Ah well, back to scraping and filing....
