So what did everyone think about last week's BSG episode where they finally found earth?

I've been wondering what Earth was going to be like when they got here, and I like the path they chose personally and I'm interested to see how they close out the series.

But how do you all feel about the very strange turn the show has taken this season? It has always had a very mythical/religious side to it but having Kara blow up, mysteriously come back to life, and having her ship magically point the way to earth, etc. It sure seems like they're leaving more and more things out there as unexplained "fate" or "destiny".

Or do you think they'll put some logical explanations to it all in the final episodes?

Thats it, you did it.
Due to the fact that any series (or movie for that reason) translated from english to german will win any award for craptacularness out there, i tried to stay away from BSG. I really did. But now I went and ordered Season 1-3 as a UK Import and it better be worth the money.

Some of my colleagues are absolutely thrilled about the series and wont stop talking about it.
But its gonna be a while till they see the episode mentioned.

Ill let you know what I think once i get there.

Love it ! 2009 can't come quick enough.

I reckon that Gator (sp-- you know " hop along" ) is the 5th cyclon.

I wonder --given all the " this has all happened before " shenannigans if the war on Earth migt have happened ages and ages ago and was what caused the tribes to travel to Caprica etc in the first place. To the best of my knowledge they haven't ever said why the 12 colonies were founded.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

it was those damn dirty apes!

sorry, got confused on my series for a sec. i was surprised too about how they found earth but i liked the direction as well. i only wonder if the entire planet is wasted?
a bunch of my friends are thinking Mr Gata(sp?) as the 5th as well but i dont think i like that. i'd still like to see Baltar as the 5th.

2009 sucks bad having to wait so long again but i know i am looking forward to another movie too so that should be good.

It's spelled Gaeta. Have they really come out and said that it would be 2009 before the next half of the season aired? Because when I watched the finale it had a short preview and the words coming soon at the end. I can't imagine them trying to pass off a 9 month gap as "Soon."

As for Kara, I'm begining to wonder if they are going to try to incorporate the whole "ship of lights" thing from the original series. It would certainly be a plausible explanation for how kara returned.

edit: for those inquiring minds, here is an article talking about the delay of 4.5 http://www.tv.com/battlestar-galactica-2003/show/23557/story/11383.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=headlinessh&tag=headlines;title;0om_act=convert&om_clk=headlinessh

The delay has pretty much ended my interest. I have not seen this last episode. Not really concerned at this point - I have little intention of waiting another year for this to drag out.

BSG is to TV as wrasslin' is on the sci-fi channel. It just doesn't belong anymore.

The series sucks a fat one. They had a great start with the 3 pilots episodes, and then the 1st season. Lots of space combat/running from the robots etc. That gak was exciting! And badass to see Starbuck killing cylons. Then they found the Tomb or whatever and some chart thingie to earth in it, and after that the series became a clusterfeth of a soap opera. After the first long break I said screw it, this show isn't worth my time to wait 9 months or so for the gakky director to defecate all over paper and call it direction for the series.

*edit* It would be a nice bit of Irony if the ruined earth turned out to be like reds8n said "this has all happened before" shenanigans, study jerk tv people.

Try not to think of it as waiting to long for the last half of season 4, think of it as only getting a half-assed season 4 then waiting a year to get a half-assed season 5.

I enjoyed the first season and pilots, but when it got all mystical and political and everyone started getting all sweaty and intense I just went "Meh!".
These days I'm mildly interested (I won't turn it off if it's on) but I can't say I care for the new direction.
Also, I hate Kara Thrace with a fiery passion, and Caprica Six.

Just failed that gay test there btw !

I've been nothing but impressed with the series as a whole, I'll be sad to see it all end.

I loved this season, and the final ep was just fantastic.

The writing on the show is sometimes a bit hit and miss, but the acting is just so great. The actors with chops (Adama, Roslin, Baltar, Deanna) have taught so much to the others since the beginning of the series. Six, Boomer/Athena, Tory, Anders, Lee, have all become such better actors since the beginning of the series. There are very few scenes that lack gravitas and weight anymore.

It's more the character of Starbuck that annoys me. It irritates me that she gets away with so much, and that she's so crazy. Six mostly annoyed be by being all cryptic and slinky in Gaius's subconcious. She's better in the physical world.
My favourite plotline currently is the Boomer/Athena/Helo one.

Would I enjoy BSG if I was only in it for pilot jocks, intense dogfights, and after-battle towel-snappings? I'm talking about "Top Gun" meets "Starship Troopers" (movie) here.

The commercials certainly include lots of explosions and fighter launch montages.

Season 4 continues the tradition of BSG offering great episodes but failing at a coherent overarching storyline. For example, the 2 episodes of Kara and company in the sewage treatment ship were great examples of dramatic interplay between Kara and Sam. Even Helo's relationship with Kara based on their time on Caprica was strained. Leoben also made me wonder what was goin gon with Kara. But when all is said and done the only thing those episodes brought to the storyline was bringing Leoben in for the temporary Cylon/human alliance. That could have been done in a much quicker and more effective manner in terms of plot.

It isn't the space combat that interests me, it is the general theme of what it is to be human and watching several different people rise or fall to the occasion. Blade Runner is the same way.

The New Caprica storyline was some of the best TV I've seen. Too bad it was followed up by such stinkers as the black market episode.

Kroeger: The producers have stated they will never revisit the 'ships of light' and Lucifer bits from the first series.

Final Cylon: I'm still thinking it is Baltar. His visits by 6 would be explained by the Cylon ability to 'project'. Deana said the 5th Cyclon wasn't in the colonial fleet. Baltar at that time was on board the cylon ship so that would be technically correct. I'd have to go back to the algae planet episode to revisit Deana's vision to see if there was a 5th in the light. I do recall her saying "I'm sorry I didn't realize it was you" or somesuch so it has to be somebody she had seen before. I wouldn't be surprised to see the 5th be on Earth though. It isn't like Ron Moore has changed his mind in writing the episodes.

I think that was to Tigh, and she was apologising for the torture etc.

I just finally watched the earth episode and was not disappointed. The last 2 series have been a bit too religion/destiny/faithy for me compared to the action heavy first series, but it has still been enjoyable, just in a different way. At least the series has remained interesting - 4 seasons of space fights would probably have got a bit too drawn out. I am eagerly awaiting the end so time to freeze myself until 2009.
