Report – Engagement with renegade forces

While on a routine patrol in the Ursa system, elements of the 3rd Imperial Cruiser Group of Battlefleet Arcana, made up of the Lunar-class cruiser Caesar and Gothic-class cruiser Pharoh were ambushed by two renegade ships, whose IFF signals identified them as the Murder-class cruiser Abyssal and Slaughter-class cruiser Executor.

The Chaos ships quickly moved to intercept the Imperial vessels. The Imperial ships followed standard operating procedure and launched torpedoes to break up the renegade formation. The Executor split formation and quickly headed Galactic-West while the Abyssal turned in the opposite direction, bringing their broadsides to bear on the Imperial forces.

The Imperial ships continued through the hail of renegade fire, taking several hits to their shields, but suffering no permanent damage. The Caesar and the Pharoh worked in tandem to overwhelm the Abyssal. The weight of their combined fire destroyed the Abyssal's shield generators, quickly crippling the ship.

The captain of the Executor skillfully came to a new heading and returned to the fight, causing some significant damage to both of the Imperial ships, and temporarily taking the Caesar’s port weapon systems off-line. Luckily for the Imperial forces, they were still able to finish off the Abyssal which was reduced to a burning hulk.

Although the Pharoh ran out of torpedoes, the engineers aboard the Caesar quickly repaired the port weapon systems, and the two vessels were able to double-team the Executor and cripple her.

The defiant renegade Warmaster aboard the Executor ignored requests to lower his shields and surrender, and continued to fire upon the pair of Imperial cruisers. The Imperials responded in kind, and in a strong broadside of weapons battery and lance fire, the Executor was also destroyed.

The Caesar and the Pharoh have set a course for the nearest spacedock to put in for repair and resupply.

Beast Coast

So, this was my first game of Battlefleet: Gothic in several years. Me and a buddy have tentatively decided to start playing again, and might do a little campaign this summer.

It was a pretty good game, with both of us trying to get a good handle on the rules. We put a planet on the table just for decoration, but didn't bother with any actual rules for celestial phenomenon to start out with.

With some fancy maneuvering I was able to destroy both of the Chaos ships without being crippled, but only just. Both my cruiser took some heavy damage (three points each) but I think the best thing I did was split up the Chaos ships to double-team them with my two ships.

One thing's for sure though, those Chaos ships are dangerous, even when you single them out! They both did three points of damage to my ships, and continually hit my shields. I think it will be tough to split up a bigger fleet too, and if they can get my Imperial cruisers one-on-one, I think it will go bad for us. It was really only touch-and-go that neither of my ships were crippled. It could have easily gone the other way, and that would have really made things rough for us.

It was also lucky for me that when the port armament on my Lunar-class cruiser was taken out, I was able to present my starboard broadside the following turn, so it didn't hurt me as badly as it might have.

Overall a really fun game, and I'm looking forward to the next battle!

mm, you should grab the 1.5 ruleset. Its free on the GW site.

Basically it uses adds all the chapter approved changes and alters a few point costs. Off the top of my head, I believe the game changes are

-modified ordinance rules
-modified nova cannon rules
-CAP and supporting turret rules
-a few points changes

plus a few I have probably forgotten.

Other than that, it looked like a decent 'remember how to play' game.

Be Joe Cool.
