Haven't seen 3 yet, but I've heard it's a throwback to the feel of the first one, and the reviews seem to think it's better than 2.

It seems that only the odd numbered Indiana Jones films are worth watching. Indi 4 was pretty bad.

Spielberg isn't the assurance of quality that it used to be.

As a child it was my favorite, however unlike the first and third films it has aged badly, the female character is the weakest of the three (four) and it has a child sidekick (who should have stayed in Goonies). Overall I find it a weak companion to the first and third films.

If Ford had played/been written in the style of the Connery role in the new film (they're about the same age) and didn't have Shia Labouf (who is very irritating) in it and Marian had been allowed to recreate what made the origional character so great the characters and film would have been so much better for it.

Maybe Mummy three will be better, at least it knows what it is.

I agree 1 and 3 are better than 2 and 4 but I like 2 and 4 a lot.

Kate Capshaw was certainly the most decorative leading lady, if you like busty blondes. Spielberg was married to her at the time.

I also loved Mummy 1, but Mummy 2 was pretty rubbish in comparison.

I did like the look of the film stock used for IJ4. It has a 1950s quality.

I'm still not so sure what to think about Crystal Skull yet. It certainly does a few things just the right way (the motorcycle chase, the jungle chase) but also does some thimgs HORRIBLY wrong (yoi already guessed it, the monkeys)..
Somehow I am still surprised that the Aliens in the end annoyed me so much. I'm still thinking that the "God did it"explanations in 1 and 3 should bother me more since I'm more the atheist type.

Temple of Doom may be the weakest of the original trilogy, but I still think it's great. Mabe the movie just misses the Nazis. As we all know from Munchkin, everthing get's better with kiling a few Nazis on the way
And Short Round is the best child-sidekick ever.

I liked both Mummy movies. The first part is kinda like a small time Indy movie, while the 2nd is more like a rollercoaster ride.

Asides from the monkey scene, I really enjoyed it. One thing that struck me odd as well were the aliens. However, aren't the 50's when science fiction started to take off (for the U.S.?) For some reason, the 50's is the era I think of early sci fi. With this in mind, it just seemed to fit and was enjoyable to watch.

Not the strongest of the 4, but a good ride nontheless.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

For IJ movies there is always a supernatural element and in 1-3 you have to suspend disbelief a little (when they open the arc, the pit of kali marr, and the healing powers of the grail). In the most recent installment the whole alien scene requires a pretty massive suspension of disbelief. Not to mention, where is the creativity in building up some big complicated finale and then in the last scene saying some aliens did it.

On top of that I found the whole nuclear blast scene in the beginning completely unnecessary. His realization of what was about to happen was hilarious, but the escape was impossible. The idea that being launched a few hundred feet in the air and some fraction or more of a mile downrange in a refrigerator is ridiculous, nevermind the barrage of high energy particles and shockwaves.

Anyway, it was fun to watch and I will buy the DVD, and a sub par IJ movie is still better in my book than 95% of the other crap out there. As far as the IJ series as a whole, IMHO the odds are clearly a higher standard of fims than the evens.... which is funny because in star trek movies the evens are better than the odds.

For me, the whole Star Trek universe became too much of a chore to keep up with several years ago.

IJ and The Mummy however are great inspiration for pulp era adventure games. Copplestone do some excellent figures. You can include just about anything. White Russians, Chinese warlords, European imperialists, Arabs, American adventurers, biplanes, cool cars, tommy guns, mysticism and archaeology... fabulous!

I was not impressed with IJ4, at all.
Spoilers:
-The bad guys were meh. Felt like they were trying too hard.
-A Rooskie psychic who likes to...fence?
-The Lebouf character felt like it was inserted purely to try to get some of the teen market.
-Aliens? Come on.
-The Big finale felt like they forgot they were shooting an Indy film, and had accidentally filmed one of the Close Encounter endings that was left on the film floor.
-The anti-American / anti-50s political undertone put my teeth on edge.

Anti-American? Do you mean the McCarthy stuff? IJ himself came over as pretty right-wing (I Like Ike!)

I expected the Russians to be anti-American.

The initial nonsense about McCarthy, censorship etc. It takes the historical events out of context. There really were spies. There really was a Cold War.
I like Ike is rightwing?

I kept expecting Rocky and Bullwinkle to come running around the corner, chase by Boris and Natasha.
Of the crew I was with:
Wife loved it.
Two 9 year old girls loved it
I thought the popcorn was pretty good
The father of the other girl fell asleep halfway through
The two 13 year old boys thought it was meh. We had to confiscate a game boy type device midway (something about "I'm paying $8 for this so watch it" in hissed whisper).

Well I don't like to argue about politics. There were spies.

McCarthy got a lot of innocent people convicted in witch trials along with a few guilty. He was run out of town in the end, and the USA survived, which kind of disproves his more extreme ideas about reds under the bed.

Ike was Republican president in the 50s. Republican = right wing (more so than Democrat) in the 20th century.

I suppose it all depends on your point of view.

Granted, movies 1 and 3 implied the existence of God, but you never actually see God. The Crystal Skull would have had some credibility if you never actually saw the aliens. The exact nature of things should have been left unknown and mysterious.

And the scene with the nuke was completely pointless. Maybe if the plot line actually had something to do with nuclear weapons (ala the Terminator movies, Sum of All Fears, Broken Arrow, season two of 24) a nuclear explosion would have been justified.

And what was with the Russian lady with the "psychic" powers. She didn't do anything! It reminded me of that episode of South Park with the psychic detectives.

I have yet to see someone mention this;
So far all the overtones of IJ have been religious, it seemed to be the point of it, show that religious artifacts were real/whatever.
The New IJ totally threw that away.
It seemed to do exactly the oppistate, instead stating OH hey inter dimensionality space aliens!!!
I only state this because this is the theme of the other IJ not out of religion.
I wanted to cry... god the gophers... the monkeys...the nuke... the weird tree cutter thing that made no sense...the undertones of mild racism.
I've noticed that movies have recently somehow come to the conclusion that they can't use real animals anymore, when really during that one part were you see the dang gophers you just want to punch a baby...
all in all it felt that someone found the formula for Indiana Jones and said
"Hey! This movie made a lot of money! Lets make another only instead of just using the normal formula well multiple it... times TENTHOUSANDDDD!?!"

Never ever ever watch B movies for fun.
It will ruin your mind.

If 13 year old boys don't like it it must be poor, they had to be the key demographic for this film.

Hurrah for 13 year old boys for helping me realise I'm not just an old cumudgeon.

Could you get them to watch Mummy 3 for me?
