Hi
I am wondering how you are planning to deploy ? any in reserve ? keeping the fire prisim's alive now we are short of cover and skimmers don't get glancing anymore is going to be tough. Also a lot of morale checks on LD 8 with such small squads. how many attacks does the jetbike seer council get on the charge? I assume they only count as having 1 weapon each. If you keep the fire prisms alive they will play merry hell wiyh the enemy, Vypers rather than warwalkers ? I am wondering why the choice or is it to keep the theme.

-In deployment I will most likely deploy the force evenly along the front with the intention of redeploying once my opponents forces are comitted, similar to a declined flank. If successful (pretty likely when facing a slower moving force) I will then move to focus firing the flank I have chosen. As always no plan survives first contact with the enemy but on a conceptual basis I think it is fairly sound.

-The rumors of the demise of the skimmer have been GREATLY exaggerated. Barring the few games where I have had entrenched elevated lascannon gun lines to face my fire prisms have been at least as durable as 4th edition. Downgrading a penetrating hit to a glancing hit 100% of the time was super, but downgrading a hit to a flat-out nothing on a 4+ is even better! And immobilized results not destroying skimmers unless you move over 12"?! Yes please! I haven't yet had trouble obscuring 50% of a fire prism behind terrain... YMMV especially if you play on the planet of the plains.

-Vypers rather than warwalkers because warwalkers are a HS choice. Also I have found myself in love with eldar missile launchers, and the EML/Shuricannon vyper has proven far too versatile in 5th edition for me to pass up on cramming 3 into my army when they're only 75pts each.

-Jetbike mounted warlocks armed with witchblades get 3 attacks. 1 base, 1 for the shuriken pistol offhand, 1 for the charge. So that's 18 attacks on the charge. I don't know why anyone would take a singing spear in 5th edition with the changes to how HTH hits affect vehicles.

If the list is a viable, competitive option will ultimately be decided at the battlefield.
The Jetbike squads are very small, one casualty and the squad might be gone.

I've thought about that. It's just as easy to make them into 2 squads of 6, but to be realistic the same problem remains:

With 6 men if you lose 2 you test. LD 8 = Run away!
With 3 men if you lose 1 you test. LD 8 = Run away!

MSU suffers in 5th but I'd much rather have 4 squads that test on losing 1 man than 2 squads that test on losing 2 men.... right?

zmc, I'm new to 40k, but I like your list. Vypers don't really appeal to me, but the mobility of the army as a whole is a big draw. I don't know if I have much to suggest, but what about rearanging things slightly like this:

Autarch, Jetbike, Mandiblasters, Laser Lance, Fusion Gun (140)
Farseer, Jetbike, Fortune, Runes of Warding (130)

6 Pathfinders (144)
6 Pathfinders (144)
3 Guardian Jetbikes, Warlock, Embolden (116)
3 Guardian Jetbikes, Warlock, Embolden (116)
3 Guardian Jetbikes, Warlock, Embolden (116)

5 Shining Spears, Exarch, Star Lance, Skilled Rider (212)
2 Vypers, 2x Missle (130)
2 Vypers, 2x Missle (130)

Fire Prism (115)
Fire Prism (115)
Fire Prism (115)

TOTAL: 1,723

I think strengthening the Guardian Jetbikes with Warlocks will really help them out, and the added punch of some Shining Spears lead by an Autarch could be great at finishing off softened units (though I'm a little nervous about how they will fair with the new 5th edition rules). I think Fire Prisms look great, so great in fact that I'm not sure the upgrades are worth the points. Anyhow, I hope some of this helps.

That's a great list for 4th edition, but it would suffer a few problems in 5th:

-Farseer doesn't have a unit he'd mesh well with, and if he's solo he'll get blasted to bits (no more IC protection in 5th)
-Autarch and Spears combo is pretty good, but it needs withdraw to be effective. With the removal of assault-clipping (all units have counter-charge USR) they aren't quite as durable as they were in 4th, which wasn't much.
-I'm not a huge fan of vehicle squadrons. Too many negatives, and the only thing you get out of it is FOC economy and free extra armor upgrades.

I agree that Fire Prism is the new Falcon for 5th. Nothing warms the dark, cold, pointy-eared heart of mine as much as firing a S9-AP2 shot at a unit of deepstriking terminators and taking out 4-5 at a go, or brining the illuminating light of Vaul into the lives of the ignorant Orks or IG with the S5-AP4 large blast =D Need to take out that monolith? Link shot go!

Thanks for your input! I'll give the spears a go this week.

Excuse my ignorance but could you tell me what the pathfinders are for in the original list?

High Toughness units, MCs mostly. Their ability to pin 4+ or worse armor save units pretty reliably has been invaluable as well.

I usually just stick them in cover (4+ is preferable, so that they can get their 2+ cover save) and let them attract fire while doing what they can to wreak havoc.

A mobile list shouldn't contain Pathfinders as the static part.
The Pathfinders will give your opponent a focus.
I played a fully mobile list at the GT heat.
It kept the enemy guessing and did really great (but this was 4th ed).

There should be shining spears in there somewhere, they are great at assaults when they charge

Try this - drop the pathfinders, replace with 1 extra jetbike squad. This saves you 212 pts. Use this to get a second farseer on jetbike and an extra destructorlock on a jetbike so you can run 2 farseer/warlock squads.

Everything in the army now has redundancy and the whole thing is mobile.

I was brainstorming today at work about this army trying to come up with some interesting variations that solved the problem of having boots on the ground, and I came up with the following list. I have a few doubts (as stated earlier) about vyper squadrons with 2 vehicles but I'm itching to playtest it. Lanchester's Square Law makes me think that this list will have better force multiplication than my original list, feel free to weigh in:

HQ:
Farseer - Jetbike, RofWard, Fortune, Mind War, Spirit Stones
w/5 x Warlocks - Jetbike, Destructor x2, Embolden x2, Enhance
Total: 440

Troops:
5 x 3 Jetbikes with Shuricannon
Total: 380

Fast Attack:
3 x 2 Vypers with Eldar Missile Launchers and Shuricannons
Total: 450

Heavy Support:
3 x 1 Fire Prism with Holofields and Stones
Total: 480

Grand Total: 1750

P.S. - Thanks goes out to entropy for providing the seed that germinated into this list!

Edit: Corrected points values.

I like the concept, but I think you are missing out on troops that are really reliable.

Vypers don't do EML + Shuricannons. It's a bad mix.

This is what I'd do:

Those Guardians should never run away now, which makes for a much more solid list.

I tried to keep everything else the same where possible.
