Not quite sure where this thread belongs, but all I can say is blah to cutting classes.
This is going to leave Dark Elves and Empire without a tank class which absolutely stinks, if you ask me.

Not a huge fan of the online games myself, spend far too much time away from the net to bother. However, form what I understand, this could be a fatal flaw for those wanting to play those races.

Yeah.. I'm not as big into MMOs as I once was, but I do still enjoy playing every now and again.
From my time in the beta I already know that I wanted to play a Disciple, but I'm not sure I'm really up for playing what is going to feel like a gimped race when it comes to PvPing against the High Elves. Sadly, I feel like this might be a death knell to the game for me.

I dunno about death knell. I mean, it's not going to be there on the roll out. How long will it take them to fill in tanks for DE and EMP? I DO have to admit, I find it an amazing bit of mismanagement that empire of all things was left hanging. Dark Elves, ok that's a little bit more fringe. Empire is pretty core. But, it'a always easy to be a critic. Critics risk nothing, and create nothing themselves. Even though I don't even play the stuff (although I was sorely tempted to buy the pre-release I saw in the store the other day!), I would encourage patience.

According to what I've read -- the four cut cities should be going in not *too* long after release, but no word on the classes at all. Bleh, I'd like to say more about it but I'm not sure what all falls under the NDA.
But yeah, it is a little stunning for Empire to be one of the factions with cuts, since Empire is so huge..
And alas, I'm afraid I don't have much patience ^_^ The release of a game is ridiculously important and, quite honestly, determines how the life of the game is going to be in general. If things aren't good at release, it drives people away. Not that I'm saying I think that WAR is going to bomb because classes are missing (not with as much interest as it has already), just saying that for me -- this is kind of a game killer. And I can also see it being a huge deal to anyone who was planning to play one of the races that is lacking in a class, most especially the tank classes. It's an enormous disadvantage in RvR.

@ Sel: Fair enough with the NDA. No need to disturb the Powers That Be. And yeah, I can see how it would suck for those playing those races, and those classes specifically since they won't be able to do what they wanted in the first place at all.

As someone looking forward to playing a Choppa, I am very disappointed with this announcement.
It's not just that I won't be able to play the job I want at luanch, but that when they finally do at people will have leveled and the other people of that level will be other [insert cut class here]. RAWR! (f',,,')f

Launching a game before it's finished is a really good way to get me to play other games. If there are realms in a game like this that simply lack critical class roles then it's just not going to be playable from the get go.
Now if they fix it by the end of beta so that things are in there for launch, it will be a bit better, but without beta testing, you know its going to be broken one way or another. That's just the way it is. You think you have things balanced but you get a couple of players who just by looking at it can see how broken some things are. They will quickly spread the word and people will abandon or embrace those things (depending on which way its broken).
But all this may be a mute point. The simple fact that they would be willing to release a game that they admit isn't finished will have me spending my money elsewhere. The last thing I want to deal with is another MMORPG where the company doesn't properly support and adjust it (read EQ) to try and balance things.

Since the game is built around the Order vs. Destruction "realms", *not* each race to its own, this really isn't as big of a deal as it's being made out to be.
Now, if your illusion was that each race was its own faction in and of itself, consider it smashed

Mythic is respected for DAoC, from which many design mechanics were borrowed and used in WoW, especially PvP.

Oh aye I totally agree I man I've been loving those 10 Hero classes we where promised for Launch in WoW, awesome fun to play.....
.....oh wait!
Back on topic
I'm really not seeing it as a big deal, Mark Jacobs said a while back it will launch with 5 or 50, it doesn't matter as long as the game is good. They never promised 24, just a great game, the classes weren't working, better this than classes that don't work or need to be fixed every 3-6months because the game doesn't work really for both PvE and PvP.. ala WoW.
Oh and don't get me wrong I've loved WoW for a long time, part of me is still considering running both games, but from what I've seen so far in, it looks like WaR is going to surpass it in every field.

a quote from Tycho of penny-arcade:
Warhammer Online saw a few deep cuts in content, designed to ensure a launch that would
a) be something they could be proud of, and
b) occur in the Year of our Lord two-thousand and eight.
Cutting four classes and four capital cities seems pretty grisly, but without playing the game in its current state I don't know what that actually represents. For cities, I guess i'd have to see it. I do know that there's still twenty other classes, so... that seems like a lot. Maybe people could play one of those? I don't know. In some cases, the classes they pulled just didn't work.
The cities are more of a concern than the classes. These
are the lynchpins of what could set WAR apart from
WoW, and leaving them out will impact high level
gameplay. However, Mythic will at least have some time
to get those online while people are levelling up.
Of course, I'm no longer in the market for week long
grinds to top level, so this impacts me less than a person
capable of setting up finliath pbae/animist groups in the
Cursed Forest, and those hardcore players are key to
keeping a game alive and attracting more casual players.
grizgrin: Sorry for the wordplay. You said polar, I said
bear. There are no meds involved. Unfortunately.

That probably true, but i don't think that its going to do as financially well as WoW. Most of Wows fan-base are just addicted to it, and many have never heard of WAR, and aren't going to change. Everyone thought that Age of Conan was going to slaughter WoW, but look at how that went. It's all a matter of publicity, None of WoWs fanbase (Which is where the majority of MMO players are) are even going to give WAR a glance and thats why i don't think any MMOs are going to topple Wow for a while

Oh I'm not bothered if it beats WoWs subscriber total or not, all I care about is if its a great game.
I think Mythic said they needed 250K subscribers to be making money, well in my view thats a given, its just a matter of how many they actually get over that.
