Hi folks,
as an IG player i'm missing an infantry weapon like seen in Predator:

Yes! I'd like to have such miniguns for my IG

I think it should be somewhere between the multilaser and the SM assault cannon, which are quite similar:

The minigun fires 4 laser bursts with the profile of a hellgun.
Because of virtually no recoil effect it can be fired while moving.
The minigun is a special weapon for veterans, storm troopers and officers only.

What do you think about this?

This will probably be moved to proposed rules. Anyway...

4 S3 AP5 shots on a move and fire weapon?

Not bad.

My pet demand is that the heavy stubber be made a special weapon with the addition that it can move and fire 18".

As it is thre is nothing in the special weapon slot that's really anti-infantry at range. Flamers are close up and the GL is good at nothing.

@ Eisenkeil:

Nice weapon.But officers?
As special to vets and stormtroopers =

@Kid_Kyoto:

Heavy stubber got too much recoil, you will hit nothing on the move.
(try actual guns like a G3 or M16 and you'll see)

Maybe as heavy weapon choice to replace lasguns on a chimera at a rate of 3/1 could a heavy stubber be of use.
Infantry won't take a stubber if a Heavy bolter is better at everything.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

Wouldn't that just be an assault cannon? I mean, mechanically and thematically, that's exactly what the AC is. It wasn't really a move-and-fire weapon either except on Jesse Ventura, who could have had a special character rule like Try-Again-Bragg.

not really... :S

@Kid_Kyoto:
A portable "light" heavy Stubber ... namely a light machine gun (maybe with half the range as the stationary heavy stubber) as special weapon would be nice as well.
But i'd like to see guards wielding a minigun ... a HELL-minigun

A multi shot hellgun as a special would make me feel all sorts of warm and fuzzy. I'd say restrict it to storm troopers/grenadiers to increase thier utility.

I always wanted a light MG analog, S3 AP- Heavy 4 @ 24"/Assault 1 @ 12".

I like this although would only dial back to Assault 2 at 12". That keeps it in line with a lasrifle on rapid fire, representing ramboesque dakka dakka.
The strength 3 mitigates any real viciousness while putting out the firepower, in line with the lasrifle, and a good counterpart to its heavy stubber cousin.

Peronally I would like to see a low powered machine gun strictly for supressing troops as MG are meant to do.

Guard Mini Gun
6, 2 STR shots AP 6 at 18" range, pinning

High volume of fire short range, str, and AP.

Just said str 2?

*looks at damage chart in rulebook*

Reconsider this,please.

Ok good point STR 3 then. This should be a special weapon though that can work with a HMG in a squad for high volume of fire. This would be a tough decision to choose from against a plasma weapons which are currently the no brainers.

I doubt you will pin down any of the xeno races with a pea shooter

How about this:

For stormtroopers (and veterans - look at the picture above why) - counts as special weapon:
Hell-Gatling 24" S3 AP5 Assault 4

For guards - counts as special weapon:
Light Stubber 24" S4 AP6 Heavy 3

I just think that 3 or 4 shots doesnt reflect the true volume of fire a MG puts out. Also, it looks like every other weapon out there. I cant think of a single weapon that has 6 shots, that would make something unique and intresting IMHO

A single barrel MG quickly overheats when fireing it continuously.
For example the german MG42 with a theoretical fire rate of about 1500 bullets per minute, you only fire well-aimed bursts to prevent heating up too quickly.
Now reconsider this Bursts as single shots in W40k. Another reason for fireing bursts is that the ammo isn't unlimited - 50 shots drum-fed of 100-150 shots belt-fed

The Defiler's harvester has Str4 6 shots, but its a big mamma gun. The hurricane bolter is similar (plus twin linked of course).

Like the idea of having 1-3 of them.

For guards - counts as special weapon:
Light Stubber 24" S4 AP6 Heavy 3

Take a weapon from your tank or transport and reduce range?
Compared with the storm bolter a stubber is a viable choice for vehicle-add-ons.
My suggest:
2x heavy stubber choices for guard infantry squad: 36" s4 ap6 Heavy 5 (belt-fed, 2 man crew) ?

Light machineguns have a reduced range (and a slower overall rate of fire) compared to their heavy counterparts - thats all.
Again speaking about the MG42: the maximum combat range of the light version (with bipod) was about 800m - max range of the heavy version (tripod) was up to about 3000m.

To your suggestion: i would prefere a single man crew, so a light bipod version of the stubber. The profile you have given would fit to a heavy mounted minigun - which would be also an interesting idea.

seeing as 40k is fanatsy and a 'cinematic' game, go for it, but i would point out that the gun used in the films is NOT portable.

If you look closely/read interviews they had to disguise the power cables and the batteries which very VERY HEAVY behind the actor. he could only move a metre or so without help. It was actually waht 40K would call a heavy weapon, they just use it 'counts as' in the film. Should we be worried that 40K rules are stating to sweep into our films? especially considering that countries like Japan and america base technology of films....I can se eit now, especially with the state of the british weapons.

'Here's a new shiny portable gun. Plug into this wall to train with it, don't worry, the power supply will be portable in the field'

soldier gets sent to the front line
"here's your portable power supply. Sorry it's so heavy, we haven't worked out the kinks. Just sit here and the enemy will come to you, or find some of your mates to carry it, it's not like thier rifles are any good anyway"

A while ago I posted a Storm Trooper Rules Entry that had a weapon I was considering making a conversion for. Here are the rules, with a slight update:

Heavy Lasgun (aka Man-Portable Multilaser): +10pts
Ra: 24" Str: 6 AP: 6 Assault2, Heavy3

Designed to support Infantry Squads on the move, the Heavy Lasgun uses a focusing array based off the weapon's tank-mounted counterpart, the Chimera. The man-portable version features a shorter crystal matrix, which somewhat hampers the range of the weapon. However, with virtually no kick to speak of, the lightweight Heavy Lasgun can be fired on the move, the backpack mounted power pack capable of supplying several-score bursts of ionized electromagnetic radiation in the form of laser light before needing to be replaced. Like the Multilaser, the weapon is devastatingly effective against light infantry units, but has a decreased usefulness against heavily armored foes -- a drawback all las-weapons must overcome with weight of fire.

You know Corpsman, I like the fact that you made it two different weapon types. Hell, it even reflects the two different firing modes demonstrated in the movie. I like it.

Thanks, grizgrin. I really hope that they incorporate something like this into the next Guard Codex when released. It would make infantry-heavy armies somewhat mobile.
