So with 5th edition, I am finding a lot of my models are out of date, wrongly equipped and are not fitting the new force org. So I inventoried my 4 ork armies (each about 2000 points in 3rd and 4th ed) to see what I could figure out for 5th edition. Also in doing so, I plan to repaint those older armies to matchmy newest army. I am not going to be painting up a new ork army every tournament season anymore so no need for multiple armies

Before I start: My camera is not very good. So I will hopefully have better FINAL pictures but these should do for WIP

So let me introduce my old armies:

Waaagh 'Az-ard the Speedfreek bozz: This was my first army when the new Ork plastics came out a while ago. All my previous Orks were retired if they didn't match the new style. Thank goodness lots of the gorkamorka metals were matching They were generic ork codex that became speedfreeks upon the armageddon codex.

Stompa klan of Armageddon: When I saw this colorscheme in armageddon I loved it. So I made a Dredbash army list with lots of mechs and other stuff. I also was able to use the old gorkamorka plastic bodies with shoota arms and heads to make good looking models.

Snortdakka's Feral orks and Ghazghkull: I had the chance to paint up and play ghazgkull's unit in a campaign at Glenburnie HQ. So here they are! Also I rand a 180 model feral ork army in the GT. For the most part I am not going to repaint ghazghkull and crew because they are 'pretty good' already and have a sentimental history actually appearing in places. I mean when am I ever going to run 9 mega armor nobz really. Feral orks were all fantasy metal savage orks. Since most of the models do not fit the new codex, I am leaving them in the cases since I have plenty of boyz to repaint already. Check out my cheaty Feral ork warboss, the most beardy character the orks have ever seen. Burna/powerklaw was dirty as dirty gets. Nobz with burnas was absurd, I hope they come back in 5th!

LootGobz Dethskullz: This was my final GT army. It was a 4th edition SHOOTY ork army. It was my attempt to blow minds and show off prettymodels at GT as I beat them with a weird mix of 'bad units' and shooting. I actually ended up 3/2/1 which was amazing. My HQ nob unit all had Rokkits and ammo grots, I had Loota plasma canoons, I had looted rhinos, and CYBORKS! Add 2 units of tankbusters (for bustin) and 2 units of Burnaz (for burnin) and it was a half and half army no one had seen. Oh, add 60 grotz and the whole board was full of orky randomness. I *REALLY* liked the final paintscheme which was BLUE theme with Yellow glyphs and Goff checkers. It mixed well. This is the scheme I plan to use on all my models.

Step 1: Inventory and organize my current models

*My 4 plasmacannon Lootaz needed a new home. So I began searching through my bit box and got the new lootaz set and need to make 15 lootaz. 4 down, 11 more to go.
*I like my 6 trukks. I like skateboards and don't plan to model up the new ork trukk. I am going to rip off the vehicle weapons and do them with MAGNETS. Also going to replace them with new plastic drivers
*I found some unpainted converted ammo grots, can always use ammo grots. I don't care for the new models anyways.
*Bought a new SAK gun and Stuck my speedfreek warboss on a new base with a squig! yay!
*All my stompa dreds gonna get Blue paintjob.

*Took my 5 nob bikers and ripped off the nobz. Mixed and matched with 3 of the new bikes and I got 8 bikers with a nob.
*My KFFmeks from my loota army. They are legit, just a bit weedy. But I am going to keep them.
*Back in my day, I could pick my own bitz at GW glenburnie HQ and pay by weight. I own 180 metal grots. So I stripped some, and took my 60 worst grots for repaint.
*Rounded up random slavers and squigs (I have about 50 squigs too) So they gotta get painted!

*9 Cyborks made from grotsnik torsos. I love these guys as they were a centerpiece of my loota army. I will run them as a Nobsquad in 5th.
*You can see tankbustaz with the new tankhammerers and bombsquigs
*My LOOTA flash gitz (too weedy for new flash gitz) and my stompa shoota boyz = 2 20 man shoota boy unitz. If I have bitz, they will become 30man units.
*Again, I found bitz in my bit bucket for more stormboyz who I hated from 3rd/4th. Now they rule.
*My burnaz need work, I have lots of them so that is good. The Meks are poorly equipped. I am torn because I like the models from Gorkamorka so I need to convert Kustommegablastaz for them.
*my 20 speedfreek hardboyz are now 30! yay!

The table of bad models
*I hated my old skorchas so I ripped them apart for bitz. But those are two valid trakks that may get modled but never used.
*3 zzap gunz from my guntrukks.
*2 grot bombs wich were my lobbaz
*about 45 metal grots from my stompa army on square bases. Do I need 90 grots? if I do I will put them on round bases or as crew for my big gunz.
*Metal nobs who didn't make the cut. Most of my fav models got kept as slugga/choppa nobs. The rest got powerklawz. These guys will become flash gitz.
*Oh and random fantasy battle orcs for random needs.

The bread and butter! SLUGGA BOYZ!
*These will be the first to be painted on my new adventure! All my sluggaz from all my previous armies. Eventually they will all match the middle squad. Also new powerklaw nobz and my old warboss!

Step 2: Conversions and Painting!

First of all, I needed to get the core models of my army converted. This included NOBZ and Warboss.
*So my old Mega armor warboss one last time before getting stripped Say bye-bye 'Az-ard!
*Stormboy Nob getting repaired and upgraded!
*Old Nobz getting powerklawz
*Tankbusta Nobz given look to match their units and mekky clawz.

Slugga Boyz on the painting table awaiting some green ink I don't have any of and need to get some!

Until I get all my paints, back to the modeling table! Up next:
*More lootaz
*More burnaz
*Ninja Kommandoz
*Pirate Flash Gitz

You know, even though you can't use the looted rhinos as rhinos anymore, you can slap a zzap gun on them and call them looted wagons with a boomgun or whatever, or even use them as extra trukks. Just leave the hatches open during the game to represent the "open top."

It's a shame to not be able to use such nice models.

Yeah, I will probably take them on tour with the army when I play and use them as objectives or something. Im really resiting making any mods to them right now. I have a looted basilisk for my lootwagon with gun (needs a 'ard top!) and I have trukks which makes life easy (I love gorkamorka trukks for true LOS)

I really wish looted wagons were 1-3 for a single HS choice (as long as the vehicle is under 50 points like the old rules) because lots of us orks have rhinos and would run them as rhinos. It would also make tankbustaz and burnas much better as a single HS can then give transports to those small elites opposed to needing a battlewagon. I guess if I wanted a CHEAP SMALL transport I could take a rhino but still, seems like a waste of a Heavy.

Update:
*Warboss Trike and boss in the works!
*Flash Gitz somehow assembled themselves in the midnight hour as well! Pics soon!

Rhinos are opened topped, they just don't count as such when crewed by things in powered armor which is virtually all the time. The only time you'd have Rhinos without powered armor crews is Inquisitorial Stormtroopers who for some reason don't want a Chimera.

Some more updates!

Here are some pictures of my previous army, FERAL ORKS. I guess they are now 'bikers' in 5th edition.

Since there is a shortage of GREEN INK and the washes have not gotten distributed, I am unable to paint anything ORK. Which *REALLY* sucks as the skin is the first thing I do.

So Modeling and Painting vehicles is all I have been able to do.

So I took 3 of my 6 trukks and removed all the orks/grots and weapons and did a paint test on them to see if I liked the new HULL colors. Please take a look and tell me what you think. I saw blue with flames an a prise-winning fighta-bomma and thought it was sharp and would full-fill red paintjob for my boyz. Please let me know what you think as this will be all my vehicles.

Almost all my 3rd edition speed freeks are painted poorly and banged up. My battlewagon is ready to be scrapped, I scrapped my trakks and buggies with the goal of re-modding them (unlike my trukks, they just need new paint and drivers, they look good and are solid!) But look what I found!!! Every ork player has one because we don't need to roll to hit! AWESOME!

You know him and love him, welcome looted basilisk!

I love this tank. I used him solid for many years. I was dead accurate with my guess, so I am kinda excited to see the model stands the test of time. So I removed most the crew and grots. But then I thought, "most people will have looted russes or Vindictors, so goodbye open top, hellow Hard case!"

So I built a 'shack' on top. Added some gubbinz from my old looted rhinos. I am pretty happy with it. I am unsure if I should paint it BLUE (because it is not a stolen Ultramarine vehicle) but paint it urban camo to match my bases and then just do blue trim and flames.

Looted Rhinos: Need trukk flames?

Also: Warboss trike and base!

So I have lots of metal nobz. Many from gorkamorka, some from second and early 3rd edition when that nob box first came out. Painted horribly. Modeled pointlessly. I already kept the GOOD models I liked with cool gear and poses. So these guyz got armswapped, heads and all sorts of junk to make FLASH GITZ.

Things I have done or plan to do:
*While having blue, my secondary color is yellow so these guys will have much more yellow than other mobs in my army. This will make them flashier like Bad Moonz.
*Every ork has a Shoota and a Slugga (I had that many arms) Most sluggas got extra ammo packs, Shootas got extra barrels or rokkits. Some got longer and bigger barrels. So Shootier, Blastia and more Dakka are all present in one way or another. I don't feel anyone expects any flash Gitz to be perfectly WYSIWYG for a unit that will cost most people over 100$ to make. They have all 3 upgrades but they will have whatever they need when I field them. I suspect most people will do the same and have no problem with it.
*Most of my NOB heads are helmetless which doesn't help with +4 saves. All my bionik eye Nob heads were used on my cyborks, All my helmets on my bikers. So I need to model gitfinders on my Gitz. Shouldn't be too bad.
*Most have bosspole pegs on their backs... Going to replace with orky glyph bitz to help with 4+ save
*Add a few extra shoulderpads for 4+ save.
*Going to add some bolts to the arms to represent bionik bodies if needed.
*Possibly do some bandanas or wacky hats for the pirate look.
*Maybe add some daggers, we will see, I don't want to crap them up too much. At some point I will reach a limit of converting and be happy with them.

I cleaned up my workspace and stuff and put all my models on my extra desk. Check out the Waaagh! Apart from these models, the *ONLY* thing that I will probably add (since I own most of the bitz and models already) are battlewagons. They will be a final project, possibly when I see the new battlewagon model to see if I like it or not. I REALLY like the forgeworld one and would convert up ones that look like those.

Comments appreciated!

No, the kommandos are hiding. Before you know it they'll be behind you with a huge choppa.

I like your Armorcast stompa, normally I hate the model but something about your paintjob just makes it great. Not sure about the crotch cannon though

Have you ever played an Apocalypse game with all of your guys? That'd have to be several hundred models!

Back in 3rd edition, we would do 'big battles' Where you would lay out a whole room and basically play a super battle. People would draw cards every round to see when it was your turn or if you get reinforcements and such. I got to play with my superheavies and such with those. It was a lot like playing Epic40k with real-sized units and 40k rules.

I haven't played apocalypse rules yet.

I love that looted baslisk.

I, too, am for the rhinos being used as trucks, as they are simply amazing.

I have a few looted wagons, but that's because I had some spare rhinos lying around and no use for them.

I like my little dakkawagons

Mekboy wrote:I like my little dakkawagons

I like dakkawagons, except battlewagons are so big I think expensive dakkawagons need to be small and cheap transports need to be big and obnoxious.

I am not sure what I will do but my old battlewagon is so massive, it is really hard to use (it actually physically holds 20 models) If I scrap that battlewagon and use a boxed Landraider I have, I can make 2 battlewagons based on landraider tracks, which sounds good to me. That leaves the 3rd for the new plastic set if it comes out one day and I like it. Then I will attach killkannons and shootas and rollers all via magnets.

Here is a finished truck and my looted basilisk painted. I still have some more details to paint on it but it is close. I also have hundreds of water decals from the old days I hope are still good. I will use those up.

I painted the basilisk with Urban ash waste camo to match my bases then orked it up. I haven't decided if I am going to 'grime' up my vehicles or not. I am going to wait until they are all done and then do them all at once (or not). I like my glowy ork models. Reminds me of second edition.

Hey there,

I'm contemplating doing a trike conversion for my warboss using the new bike kits.

What components did you use to build your trike?
It looks fantastic.

Thanks! That is a WARTRAKK model for the 'bike engine' and backside. I shortend the 'trak' section to be a wheelwell not a track section. This leaves a mini platform on the back for grots and attack squigs. (I might put that huge fantasy squig on there)

The big shootas are a plastic IG sentinel powerpack.
The extended rails are from the old 3rd edition SM demolisher.

And the base is just a 60mm dred base cut in half with 25mm spacer. I glued them all down to a magnetic sheeting so the base is one continuous piece. I have since filled in the base with sand and gubbins and painted it, I will take a picture of the completed base.

You could probably do it with an old wartrakk, 2 extra tires and some plasticard and new bike bitz. It was this or loot a SM bike with a sidecar because trikes is the only way for a boss to travel!

I always work on a 'fun' unit while churning through loads of boyz so while painting up 30 slugga boyz here is my bike squad!

Bikes WIP: Custom bases too! That Nob is stuck to the seat from the days when al my bikes were nob bikers.

Uh oh! da Bozz got a bike! Like all the bikes and bases it is 90% done. Now I just do little details as I see them. I will have more pictures when they are done!

Simple base for the boss bike... Dred base cut in half with 25mm spacer bases, Add stand and doo dads and you got a base.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH! The Ladz having a party... Can you spot them all? Tankbustaz, Lootaz, Burnaz, Cyborks, Shoota Boyz, Slugga Boyz and even a mek!

WIP on some vehicles. The 3 deffdreds are all done! Looted Rhinos got some red paint jobz and all 6 trukks are reaching stage 2. I am working out a magnetic weapon system for all my trukks, lootwagons, Buggies and battlewagons. So I can give any vehicle what I need and also remove them for weapon destroyed. I am TEMPTED to retrofit my walkers with the same weapons my trukks will use. So I might experigment! with my kanz.

Also, I was able to salvage my gorkamorka meks. I loved these models as they were made out of the old meks and weapon drivers from gorka morka. They aged really well and looked 'weedy' which is awesome for meks. So No more burnas, now megablastaz. Since megablastas are basically plasma rifles from 2nd edition, I converted 6 meks with megablastas using plasma rifles and bitz from the new megablasta model. Here is one of them using the new valejo Inks.
