A lot of why the Imperium hasn't fallen yet could be attributed to these guys and the way they redeem Chaos champions from their ill chosen path.
According to the original RT RoC era rules for them, they were a few steps ahead of the Illuminati, and some of them were able to convert Chaos followers back to the side of the Emperor through the example they set after defeating them in battle.
Eventually, the Emperor's going to die, and one or all of his sons, with the machinations of the Illuminati, are going to be the kick start that brings him back into the material realm.
A mention of a star child figures in there somewhere, possibly in kind of the way Slaanesh was born, but with a positive impact.
It was fairly intriguing and complex stuff and could be something interesting to put back into the game, maybe in an Inquisition Codex.
