Food for a Giant Fenrisian Wolf

Hi everyone,
I'm new to these boards and thought I'd say hello and ask a few questions.

I started gaming in 1994, through my school's wargaming club. Most of us were playing 2nd ED 40K and I loved it. I had a pretty decent space wolves army as well as smaller Ork and Chaos armies (Mostly for lending out to newbies ) I also played the hell out of Necromunda when it was released, I still have a few gangs and my rules for this. Alas most of my 40K miniatures were either (a) sold off or (b) stolen before I left school and I kinda fell away from the hobby after that.

However on a recent clear out of my parents attic I found some of my old gear and upon showing it to my girlfriend she said if I wanted to get back into it she would too (already knew i was lucky to find one like her lol) So I had a look on the internet and quickly realised I'm way out of date on rules etc with the 5th ED being released so I'm back to square one.

Now a few questions if you guys wouldn't mind giving me a few pointers.

I'm looking to start out pretty basically, so how much would I need to spend to get a decent starter set, paints, minis, rules etc?
Have the rules changed much since 2nd ED 40K?
Has the actual hobby (painting, modelling, playing) changed much since 2nd/3rd Editions?
and finally
Do land raiders still kick ass?

Cheers in Advance

Hey Giz. I'm new to the boards too; welcome!

I have saved money by purchasing sprus on eBay and paints/brushes from Wal*Mart and Michaels. I did buy a retail Battle Force which is a good deal, cost wise. If you plan on getting those models anyway, it's like half the price of buying them individually. I did buy a codex too, but since my Dark Eldar are so old, the codex is relatively cheap. Luckily, I have a few friends that each have a copy of the 40k rulebook (saving me like $60).
