And we wonder *why* the Middle East has such a problem with the West?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/7609905.stm
If an Arab country tried that, the Missiles would be aimed and armed already. When exactly are we going to leave Israel to it's own devices?

Illegal land seizure, we do nothing.
Flouting UN Resolutions, we do nothing.
Arabs get pissed, we arm Israel.
Someone better hit the big red button and soon. Only a full out Nuclear war can give Humanity back well, it's Humanity. Knock us all back to Stone Age so severely who started what ceases to be of import.

The International Court of Law perhaps? Stating that all Israeli settlements in the West Bank are illegal?
As I said before in another thread, I have nothing against the faith of the Israeli people, I just wish they weren't so fond of provoking the Arab nations with such wild abandon.

The so called "International Court of Law" doesn't have any authority over Israel, a sovereign nation. So again, why is it illegal?
And why would you bring up their faith? It hasn't been mentioned at all.

Beause I don't like people playing Cards in defence of something indefensible.
And International Law does have authority over a Sovereign State or Nation. Thats the whole point of an International Law. Israel has effectively annexed a huge plot of land from another Sovereign State.
Trust me, if this was Russia, or even the UK, the World would do something. But never against Israel.

And then we will have WW3, because an Ally of the United States, even though it would pretty much deserve everything it gets (though not necessarily the people. Why do the innocents always have to bear the brunt of decisions made?) had been attacked.
Awesome sauce.

This is what happened the last time they tried that: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/6_day_war. I would gather that is probably a large contributing factor to the Arab extremist groups' practice of asymetric warfare, and the support for such extremist groups by nations openly hostile to Israel (such as Syria and Lebanon).

Really, I wish the US would keep its nose out of foreign conflicts. Unfortunately it sees itself as the police force of the world. It might be ok if it was more even handed, but it isn't and it just costs us such insane amounts of money while simultaneously making us just as bad as whoever we are trying to stop.

Atleast Russia was there to stop the bullies in Georgia. Those two regions have had defacto independence since the collapse of the Soviet Union. Georgia shouldn't be able to just attempt to take them over again whenever it wants.
I agree about Israel. There's a powder keg just waiting to go off. It'll be terrible if Israel opts for the "Samson Option." ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samson_Option )

The only way that the fighting between the jews and the arabs is ever going to stop is if one or the other is destroyed. If that samson option is real and it is used, they may very well destroy each other. That would be fine, it would give us the kick in the pants we need to invest in wind and solar power, which is all we would ever need.

I think there is a fairly large proportion of the world's population who have never tried to wipe out the Jews.
I mean, like a really massively large proportion.
The entire situation is a god awful mess and I don't see it being resolved in my lifetime. A lot of the time I see the israelis as acting reprehensibly, other times it's the palestinians. I've never understood why the US is so biased in the whole thing though. Probably something to do with lobby groups, it usually is.

The US is biased because it thinks all Palestinians are Moslem extremists. It's not too wrong - the Israelis and the majority of Palestinians know that that the current party presiding over the PLO was once considered 'extremist'. The US definitely thinks so.
However, because an extremist group got into government and settled down a bit, another, "We're MORE extremist" group has risen, and it just goes on.
Basically this gives Israelis the 'right' to bulldoze populated Palestinian settlements (funnily enough, they don't care if it's a Christian settlement) to repopulate them with (often American) Jews.
Another widely held Israeli belief is that the Arab League has been sponsoring Palestine's military in order to either a: defend themselves or b: fight Israel on their behalf. Either is pretty acceptable, seeing as how Israeli government was pretty bad BEFORE America started getting all friendly and shipping Jews back over.
I have one Israeli friend who is in the 'all nations against Israel' camp - he's not religious, used to have Palestinian friends, and came to Australia to get away from it all. But back in the seventies people DID still think the Jews were an innocent victim race. Maybe so, when spread out and alienated. But being a victim once or twice doesn't justify a history of war in the name of a little book, and continued oppression of the non-faithful to the present.
Just because I've never tried to wipe out the Jews doesn't mean I'm lazy or anything. I just work for Dell, and Intel designed this generation of low-voltage laptop processors in Israel, see... and...
Look, I've said this before, but Israel is just America's own fascist party. It's all black/brown/red hair and brown eyes and your mother's a Jew, or you're OUT!

Sometimes I think this is like the Indian Wars of Hollywood, the Israeli "Big chief in Washington" goverment signs a treaty with the "indian" palestinians. Then some "white"colonist decides that he likes the land at the other side of the treaty line, the "white" colonist shettles there and when the "indian" palestinian goes spare the 7th Cavalry intervenes to save the colonist daughter by killing the bad guys. Pity that RL is not as clear cut as the western movies.
The UN will be great the day we can reform it and start giving votes to the countries based on population. That a great and historical state like Togo has the same votes than the US simply is a recipe to do nothing.
