I've bought a heap of HE stuff and am about to start assembling it but would like thought son which theme to go with.
Currently I like the nagarythe idea best, due to conversions and the darker feel to the army, but the dragonmage conversion I'm getting done = red hawt and would fit perfectly with caledorians...

I've seen a few purple and bone schemed armies. It just looks really nice on elves I think. I almost considered it myself

I'm partial to the red, Caledorian theme myself (since that's what I'm going with at the moment!) but the Nagarythe theme is quite striking.
Could make your dragonmage a darker. more magenta color to go with the purple of the Nagarythe theme if you were so inclined.

I definitley could go a darker red with some purple inking on the dragon.

I considered buying some old collectors dragons (they look like miniature versions of the new HE dragon) as eagles but they do look somewhat dated.

Yeah, I never cared for the older dragon models myself. Too....weedy and silly looking, in my opinion.

and the pose was a bit.... unatural

That dragon's pose is excellent! In terms of which scheme I prefer, I think both are painted excellently, but the Nagarythe bone & purple scheme is more focused and appealing.

Based strictly on how nice the work on your links is, I say leave red to more ardent devotees of Khaine. The two other schemes would work extremely well together. (I must be stupid because I honestly have difficulty picking out the differences.) Also, red tends to make everything look n00b. (slop and drop dip armies use that colour) You also could just paint the dragon in red, which would be a decent enough contrast to the white/purple.

I want it here as the modelling forum has so much traffic it will disappear too quickly and at least here people know what I am rambling about...

i say bright red theme.
only prob i have is the flames from its mouth, just feel that it should get alot thicker just before it hits the rock.

and if your going dragon theme you should use the old archive dragon models as great eagles

i also believe more in the bright red theme, also, your green stuff skills are awesome, if only i was as good...

That's the great thing about a good paint job- any color looks good. Just pick your favorite. I actually like a blue-green with gold trim ala http://www.coolminiornot.com/59062 alot. My current elves are deep reds and golds with some warm whites to break it up.
