hello dakkaites. the memorable event of actually basing and converting a full FOC slot convinced me of posting on more sites than just W.I.P., to spread news of my awesomeness. /irony
in the end, i want to have two infantry platoons, an hq platoon, an inquisitor and some tanks. i want all of this to look ragtag and feral, so i can use the army both for chaos and loyalists.
on to the first pictures - first platoon, ready for basecoating:

sirdar kerkash with anti-armour team and commissar upacesky

first squad, sergeant hektor ludolf aka "machine"

second squad, sergeant roland "two-hands" cassel

if someone is interested, i can post the armylist and some fluff.

Renegade IG definitely deserve fluff. They're quite possibly one of my favorite army ideas in 40k right now (even if I'm too poor to make my own).

Great work so far. Nice to see more Pig Iron heads floating around. Those guys have to be making a killing off those kolony head packs ^_^!

as soon as i can coax my laptop's machine spirit back to life, i'll do a fluff write-up.
for now, on to the update. started work on the HQ squad - i proudly present troopers talin and sotachez carrying their temperamental mk II short-pattern anti-armour rifles (counts as lascannons). notice the stabilizer armour on their torsos. and no, they don't get robes. can't fit them under the gyro harness.^^

doing the lascannons like that get's me out of two tight spots: i don't have to use a tripod mounted weapon (and a 60mm base) and i can act as if i didn't violate the junglefighters -> no lascannons taboo. i know, neither are the hegeshi real junglefighters, nor are the chancers subject to that rule, but still...

See, this is what I like about IG. And 'counts as' for that matter. Do a bit of converting, add a spiffy
paint job and conjure up some fluff. Stir it all for a wee bit, and bake it for a while; presto, you have
yourself a new 40k force!

The Renegades look great! All nice and heretical, backed up by a dose of freakyness. Looking
forward to seeing more of them, and to read the fluff!

Nice to see more rebel guard! I am always tempted to start a little LatD army, along with a regular guard army, and a counts as steam-punk guard army... In other words, I am always tempted to buy WAY more guard than I could paint.

Those colony heads are great though! I imagine the company that produces them makes a mint as well, since when I called WarStore to order my box, the guy wasn't certain which kit I wanted till I said "You know, the one everyone orders" and then he understood right away
I just wish they would make assorted female heads (HINT HINT !!!)

thanks a lot, guys.
wehrkind: now PigIron also sell sprues of backpacks and pouches.

so... if there's a deity of miniature building, it's most likely:
1. female
2. sick
why? because of the way it gives me more free time to spend on modelling.
not only do i not have a girlfriend anymore, now i don't even have a cat. i can only hope that apart from topping my list of "most gruelling moments in life", having the poor thing die in my arms this morning gives me the ability to see those creepy undead flying horses from the last harry potter movie. heh, all i now need
is a fringe and i'm ready to join the mindless legions of whiny emo zombie-misfits. blargh.

right, after satisfying the "blog" part of my army blog, onto the stuff that might actually interest you: aparently my dad not only spends large amounts of his disposable income on 1:72 train models, he also likes to shell out three digit sums on technical gadgets he never uses. read: as of last week, i'm the proud owner of two airbrushes and a compressor. yay.
so much for being satisfied with the paintjob of the thunderer. that's so going to be repainted to match this:

Pulcherrima - Long-Range Support Baneblade. Yes, its main gun has teeth and i named the biggest tank in my army after a dead cat (which did not have a latin name). is that awesome? yes it is! the only thing left to do are finishing the viewports and the metal parts.
oh, yeah, it's a chaos tank. guess who's letting fly their true colours?
i guess that's it for now. laters, guys. i'll try to post some fluff next.

ah well, a a little bit of fluff before i'm off to bed:
Concept Phase
during the sabbat worlds crusade, one of the most dangerous chaos forces was archon urlock gaur's blood pact. fanatical, loyal and fearless, they cut bloody swathes into the crusade's second front.
one of the imperium's initiatives to counter this threat was a trial to copy the blood pact to analyse it better. on the forge worlds of the hegesh system, the tech priests selected the best individuals from the many penal legions that undergwent retraining on its many moons. in fact this meant the most murderous and despicable scum that the guard had produced. the losses during bionic upgrades and training were as high as fifty percent but the results merited the means. in the end, the tech priests presented the inquisition with a full regiment whose skill and ferocity could outmatch any but the most elite or feral reiments of the regular guard. At the center of their upgrades was the Unhibitor, a palm-sized device grafted to the back of the skull. In battle, its machine spirit would reach out to those of all men in the vicinity and coordinate their close-combat attacks depending on the situation.
the first trial run fell under the command of lord griffith who was assissted by a company of Sadaur Storm Troopers and over a dozen commissars.

His judges were silent, amorphous shadows, barely visible in the glare of the hi-beams aimed at him. He shifted uneasily. Stripped to the waste, his wrists and ankles chained, trooper Josmund Kerkash tried to ignore the cold. His breath steamed. He had no idea where he was. Aboard a starship, of that he was sure – thanks to two weeks of disturbing warp-dreams. Last night had been the first without strange images flooding his mind, but the little comfort of dreamless sleep had been too short. Armsmen had woken him, dragged him from his cell and sluiced him down with a water hose. The water had been cold, too, like everything on this throne-forsaken ship.
“Trooper Kerkash”, a voice cut through his thoughts
“You stand accused of assault on a superior officer. The penalty for your crime is death by firing squad. Do you have anything to say in your defense.”
Josmund Kerkash had been accused of many things in his violent life. Being handsome was not on that list. A fact underlined by the sardonic grin now spreading across his face. It made him look like an angry Gralek Toad-Hound.
“Just that i stand by my actions. The drekhead of a louie left my squad-mates to die. Only fair to repay him in kind.”
After a pause he continued.
“Now can we get it over with? I can't stand the dreking cold anymore!”
He really meant it. From the first time he'd fired a gun in anger, back home in the warm, stifling swamps of Gralek, he had known that he would die a violent death. But that was alright. Better than to grow old or ill until you couldn't keep the vermin from eating you alive. Better than the dreking cold.
Instead of an answer, that lamps switched off with a hum. Blinking in the sudden gloom, he could see the tribunal clearly for the first time. Three men. One in an oversized suit of powered armour, face hidden behind shaggy hair and an unkempt beard. One in red robes, with a rebreather over his lower face, a techpriest. The last one wore green guard fatigues without insignia, his shaven head covered with intricate tattoos. What a strange choice for a court martial, Kerkash thought.
The armoured man rose.
“Josmund Kerkash, you are hereby found guilty of all charges. Your name shall be erased from your regiment's history and you yourself are stripped of any rank or title you may have held.
As of this day, you are reassigned to retraining, indoctrination and punishment on the moons of the Hegesh system until you are found fit to serve in the penal legions. Any further violation of the law will be punished swiftly and without mercy. This is your last chance to give your life for the god-emperor who has given his life for us. Dismissed.”
The tattooed man only grinned.

i'll spellcheck and cap it when i'm in the mood. g'night.

thanks guys. i hope i'll have the time to airbrush the defender squad and/or the hellhound this weekend. finals are coming up, so i'm a bit short on time. :(

Lord Lankington:
for the simple version (the painted one) you need:
flagellant body, cadian torso, cadian legs (or catachan, depending on the pose), pig iron kolony militia helmet and a pair of cadian arms.
you'll also need (naturally) a sharp knife and either a big cutting tweezers or a saw.
start with cutting off the torso and the feet of the flagellant, keep the feet for now (and put the torso into your bitz box^^). file the chest pads off the cadian vest to give it a different look (or don't), take a pair of cadian legs that match the feet you cut off the flaggy. cut off the cadian boots and file the tops so they match the original pose. cut off the muzzle of the lasgun and shorten the barrel to the point where the deco skull's right-hand wing starts, reattach the muzzle. pin the feet to the torso and glue on the rest.

the more elaborate version you'll also need a pair of flagellant arms (maybe also a spare lasgun or other weapon), greenstuff and a dremel.
assemble the body as above, but don't glue on the cadian arms. decide if you want the defender to be holding the rifle right-handed, left-handed or for CC. if you want him right-handed, cut off the lasrifle from the cadian arms (so you have the rifle with two attached hands, but without a stock), find matching flagellant arms (there is an ideal combo of right handweapon arm and left greatweapon arm), pin everything, GS the gaps. cut down the remaining arms until only the pauldrons remain, hollow the out with the dremel, glue them to the arms and GS straps. for the lefty version it's the same, but you'll have to GS the right hand or take one from the heavy weapon crew. for the CC pose, take greatweapon arms, cut out the handle, insert the cut-down rifle (should fit well), reattach the part of the muzzle that pokes out of the hand and the rest of the stock.

optional upgrades are: wire folding stocks for the carbines adittional webbing belts cut off catachan torsos, GSed hoods/scarfs, GS or plasticard enhanced armour. if all goes well, i'll be able to show some tricked out defenders for the command squad come sunday.

what's the fun of being able to categorize everything into black and white? mabe some chaos guys picked up some imperial lasguns and have not yet defiled them. or some imps have put on some scavenged armor, hoping the comissar won't catch them.
i've been trying out some camo patterns (not enough time for complicated conversions :( ) and i'm kinda liking that one:

what do you think? it's basically multi-purpose badlands colours.

university work is killing me (bloody term papers), but i did get some work done. lookit, nice and final build of self-propelled artillery no. 1 with a quick basecoat and camo stripes:

also, to give me a little treat on the side, i bought this from a game store about to redo its inventory:

actually, a friend of mine found it, so i got 6 classic techmarines, some orlock gangers, 2 chaos dreads and two chimeras for 30 bucks. the boxes may be more than half as old as i am, but the chimera model hasn't been changed in the last 12 years. joy.^^
i know, i wanted to do some fancy grunts for the HQ squad, by i didn't even find the time to get some greenstuff (the shop doing the sale didn't have any). well, from the second week of frebuary on, i have three blissful months of free time, hopefully to get some work done.
