I am always interested in expanding my culinary options so am curious as to what uncommon foods you eat, and thought I would torture myself by sharing some of mine while sitting here hungry. (all pictures hotlinked from various websites)
Kkan pung gi - korean chicken that is in a deep fried batter, and has a light chili that is loaded with honey and sesame making it very sweet and spicy and delicious. Had this for dinner at my local korean today.
Bulgogi beef - not that uncommon but it is my dinner about twice a week so I thought I'd share a picture to torture myself. If you have never tried it, basically bulgogi is to beef as teriyaki is to chicken and uses very thin, very tender bits of steak to their best effect.
chicken or pork katsu curry - not that uncommon either, but hard to find a good authentic one outside of asia, even here in london (japan centre on piccadilly FTW). When I am in japan for a while, sometimes I get a craving for more westernised food. This dish was developed as a mixture of japanese and western tastes and is a great meal for a fast lunch out there when you are tired of the usual sushi/various noodles/sandwiches/etc. Eating it always makes me feel like I am on holiday.
Biltong - dried meat that is quite similar to jerky except it seems to have a slightly different texture and is African in origin. My local south african shop keeps me in good supply and it is fun to eat more unusual animals like springboks and kudu, especially if you in a zoo that has them at the time.
Anybody else want to share some photos and descriptions of their fave local dishes? I've made myself too hungry typing this so I am off to raid the fridge now...

This place is right down the street from where I work. Very......very evil. But some of the best burgers around.
I guess it isn't too uncommon for sure. But that is 1 lbs of beef with all the trimmings. So, that might make it a little more rare.
We also have a Brazilian BBQ that just came to town earlier this year. If you like Lamb, Beef, or Chicken cooked on a spit and some excellent seasoning, then this type of place is for you. But don't eat anything else prior to going. The quantity of food is mind boggling. The place near me has 21 different types of meat that they bring out, and it just never stops. They also have Pineapple cooked on a spit and lightly dusted with cinnamon sugar. Dang those Brazilians for making all that great food. Here are some generic pics to give you an idea.

This is torture worthy of the Ordo Hereticus! I haven't made it in a while, but once or twice a year I put together some lasagna using chicken grilled in italian spices, alfredo sauce and lots of portobello mushrooms, sauteed in butter and fresh garlic. It's my only original, mostly because the vast majority of my cooking knowledge came from working in chain restaurants.

Vegemite.
Breakfast of champions (along with beer and ice cream)
I think you are meant to spread it on like this:
but I do mine so thick you can't see the bread/toast.
Also works great with cheese, and then grilled:

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.
|
dude that is seriously nasty.
what do I like. Besides my beloved Shawarma sandwhiches. BBQ pork.
That's it, really. Fancy pizza.
I like Ukrainian food. Perogies and sausage.
I make my own hummus and tziki sause. I have tried to make garlic mayonaise but haven't gotten it right.
Ukranian and Greek food, in other words.
That, and Earl Grey tea which I drink by the liter. Maybe a bit less since the discovery of caffeine pills for $9.99 a bottle.
and salty french fries.
And ...
I'll refrain from beer and boob jokes given the seriousness of the discussion.

After I looked at your post my first thought was "Wow, Just Like Mom Used to make". (I am Korean)
Try Chicken or pork bulgogi. I make the chicken one all the time.
Living down in here in Dixie it would be wrong of me not to post some Southern specialty's.
Hmmmmm Grits, Good Mornining, Noon, & Night. Also known as Red Neck Polenta
Fried Green Tomatoes. Good with either Hot Sauce or Spicy Ranch Dressing
Sweet Potatoe Pie, You can't go wrong with this one, however you also have:
Pecan Pie!
White-Tail Sausage, That is deer meat for those who don't know what a white tail is.
Souther Fried Chicken, Accept No Substitute

Ummmm almod pocky...the best stuff ever.
Another favorite of mine is Pad Kee Mao. They are spicy Thai noodles with meat and vegatables. Lots of serrano chillies in there hiding with the green bell peppers so watch out.
You also can't go wrong with Char Siu Bao. They are Chinese buns with BBQ pork in the middle. So tasty!

Buns with pork? Food of the Gods. Agree with the katsu curry too, yum.
I feel I must confess to picking up a taste for poutine whilst in Quebec:
Fries smothered in gravy (not the white gravy) and cheese curds.....

It looks better IRL.
It's the proof God exists and he made beef, linguiça, cheese and spicy sauce just so that they could marry two slices of loaf bread and a ton of chips.
Accompany with beer if you like, I'll stick to Coca-Cola. Damn, it's some great food.
Then we've got arroz de sarrabulho (sarrabulho rice), which is rice done with pork blood. I personally don't eat the rice, just the potatoes and the rojões (pork meatballs, sort of). There's a particular place in my hometown that makes the last two especially good.

Then there's a ton of recepies for codfish (some of them even include whipped cream), beef, etc.

Really, if you come to PT, don't be afraid to vary.

What I had was elvers, which are baby eels. Not the one in your picture -- which looks nice.

Char sui bao! I played too many video games as a child to ever take 'meat buns' seriously. Something in the back of my head is always telling me that they replenish health. Maybe that's why I can't stop eating them.
Also vegemite and honey. That's together.
Lots of middle eastern food (girlfriend's family)...
Sugar-coated fennel anyone?
Also Dr. Pepper. I can say that because it has to be imported to Australia from the U.S.
Put Peanut Butter Cups in that category too.
I eat a lot of sugary food, just looking at that. Even more so because I know what my usual eating habits are too.
