I call this blog WIP IT GOOD cause, well, like most of you, my army is a work in progress. 8+ years in the making.

A short backround, Is tarted playing when 3rd ed was still running strong, me and my cousing picked armies, me eldar and him space wolves. I got some guardians, a falcon, a wraithlord, a farseer and we went from there. Well, we didn't play much and I lost interest quickly in 40k, but held onto my models.

Fast foward to 2005 and a coworker is big into 40k so i start up again, aspect warriors, more wraigthlords, wraithguard a plenty! My 2nd go around was much longer, for about 4 months I collected painted and played. But I ended up leaving that job and it was near impossible to schedual game time with that guy.

So here I am in 08, started up again with the new codex, and have gotten more aspects, fire prisim, 3 wave serpets... ect ect. I've only played a few games recently but am kicking into high gear to play MOAR! As you can see I chose Iyanden as my craftworld. I love the idea of the hard as nails wraithlords and guard. Sadly, this is not the most cost effective or competitive list, but i'm determined to make a list that I feel is somewhat flavorful of the craftworld (at least 1 squad of guard and a lord in every list) and powerful on the field.

So here is my work in progress blog. First some of my "finished models" All stuff painted 4-9 years ago... so yeah, i know mostly it's crap. But hey it's painted!

good to see a "classic" color scheme on those eldar. Nothing like bright yellow and blue to indicate "yes, I am a space elf".

The yellow in particular is quite vibrant.

Thanks! I... think. Well obviously i started this army back in like... 99, and Bright yellow was oh so cool. Even now it is a very, "striking" scheme.

And now for a look at "the studio". Which is what I call my computer desk that is covered in 40k models and bitz.

Right now i'm just assembling like mad, only stopping to do the occasional test paint mini just to get an idea for what the rest of them will look like. Ready to be primed i've got 13+ jetbikes, 2 wave serpents. A war walker, a squad of fire dragons, Yriel, an Autarch I scratch built, and lots of weapons/misc.

Okay a little update, some storm guardians i'm working on.

All the peices. I can make about 18. More if I wanted but I don't know if they will even ever see battle so.. not going to put TOO much effort into them.

But, I can't help but do SOME conversions.

I don't think my stuff looks better, at least you have a fully painted army. As it stands only about half of my models are painted. I often start one project and after assembly start on another before priming/painting. I'm sure alot of people on here can relate lol. Your stuff looks good!

But, for another update. SO MUCH FOR NOT TAKING TOO LONG... i've been working on just converting and posing these storm guardians for about 8 hours... I gave them the attention that I would give to a Kill team squad, and come to think of it I think that's the pefect use for them. Since most people hardly use storm guardians in battle. I mean, i COULD, using 2 fusion guns + spearlock in a falcon or serpent for some decent anti tank, or 2 flamers and Destructo-lock for templateish doom.

Anyway, here I present my Storm Guardians. I've come up with nicknames for alot of them

The special weapons guys

Hard to see on this guy but I gave him some green stuff on one side to make a mask, the idea being extra protection from his flamer but I just thought it looked cool. Plus a little shield courtesy of a falcon sensor array.

I like to call this guy "old school". For obvious reaons. "Back in my day, our eldar helmets were much more phalic, like this!"

The ladies of the squad, the one on the right is pretty plain, on the left I gave her a mask and a few extra back... thingies...?

This guy is obviously the leader... cause he's pointing.

This guy is dramaticly leaping off of a bit of rubble to deliver a decapitation strike! (at least, that's the idea... -_- )

I like to call this one "Codpeice"

Bug eye! Or, Mantis... if you want to be badass about it.

Another guy with a polearm.

This is sort of the "squad champion" if there was such a thing for lowly storm guardians. Matching swords with the squad banner.

This guy was an idea i had for a "redeemed" Dark eldar. It would make sence, especialy for Iyanden Craftworld, that they would accept anybody willing to pledge to the craftworld and fight for it. So this guy has the torso from a DE sprue and a converted glaive as well.

And again from a rear shot, so I can see the tie thingy i put on it that turned out supprisingly well.

Another redeemed Dark Eldar. Though they set aside their evil ways, they are more than happy to kick ass in the Storm squad. ^_^

Twin blades from a Fantasy Dark Elf model, and a "snub nose" Shuriken catapult on his back

And i saved best for last. "Nostrils" Who has the special distinction of being "Mr. badass firing two pistols whilst flying through the air" I workd a while on this one and hopefully you guys like em!

From behind

In your FACE!!!

Any comments appreciated.

I love the Storm Guardians. The poses and conversions are just really swank.

Paint job is nice and crisp with the yellow and blues. The one thing I would do is a wash or something on the robes and cloths and such, as they look rather flat at the moment.

And as far as your Wraithlord goes...

Thanks for the comments, and the zombie vid... lol

As some have said, yes my older models are in dire need of some touch up work. I used to think that just basecoating was good enough but of course I get to surfing forums and see all these amazing paintjobs and learn different techniques I want to try out. So I will be revising those older models and taking a bit more time with my future ones. Eventually.

NOW, for yesterday/todays project. WRAITHLAWD!! I've been doodling ideas for a new wraithlord for a while, and I did want to get a newer model, and after finding one for a good price on ebay, when it showed up it was the OLDER style wraithlord. Even though the seller had a picture of the NEWER model on the auction, he wouldn't let me return it... etc. It was an ordeal, but anyways this gave me an opportunity to try and construct a Wraithlord like a concept picture I did about a month ago. Check it out:

So as you can see, the idea was to cut and lengthen the torso, consolidate both flamers to one arm, and do a few other little changes here and there. I think you will agree that the finished product looks as good or better than my initial idea!

An early stage, getting the torso beefed up.

And now the assembled product!

Old/new flamer consolidated to left gauntlet.

The flamer tanks attached to the chassis.

Behind shot.

A shot showing the back and sensor array on the right side of his head.

Side shot, I love the wraithblade polearm. ^_^

Scatter laser and Starcannon loadout on interchangeable weapon mounts.

And a contrast between the origional idea and (mostly) finished product.

Looks sweet, Mr. Jones. I did much the same with my own wraithlord, also an older (albeit the OLD old one) metal model. I especially like the pole arm (which I mentioned I might do for a future wraithlord) and might steal it, with you permission of course.

The storm guardians are a sweet, simple way to add character to the typical eldar army as well!

Less zombie like than your first one, though he doesn't look like he's firing the flamer to me. More gesturing or pointing at a target or objective he wants his buddies to head towards.

Not to say he isn't cool. I like his spear.

This is looking like a fantastic force Yojimbo, the Storm Guardians are really dynamic.

I just had to say how awesome that Wraithlord is looking. It feels really classic and powerful, but still totally in theme with the newer Eldar range. I think that the eBay ordeal definitely worked out for the best. Can't wait to see it painted man.

Amazing work.

The Wraithlord looks great - lovely polearm and conversion work! Nostrils, too, looks dynamic.

My fave is the dark eldar renegades ... a squad of those guys (defected en masse?) would make a really eye-catching unit. Nice work all round!

Well, it's been a while. Been busy with other things but I have found some time to prime alot of minatures. And since I have not painted in a while, I decided to start off with my squad of fire dragons. For one, I already basicly knew what color scheme to use, and it's a small squad of 5 FD's plus the Exarch.

So here we are. These guys are basicly done. All that's left is a LITTLE bit of touch up and of course basing them. I have not decided how I want to base my army so I'm saving that for when I figure it out. Also since taking these pictures I have added a little scorpion green to help bring out the eyes, as goblin green wasn't showing very well except upon very close inspection. I'm not happy the way these photographed. I don't know if it's because they are mostly red and that was washing out the image, but they look much better in person, with better light i assure you.

I did these by basecoating the body armor with red gore, then drybrushing blood red. Then highlighting the armor with fiery orange. The helmet was basecoated orange then drybrushed with golden yellow. I used a few different brass metallic colors for their fusion gear and settled on brazen brass. I then highlighted with shinging gold but I think the nature of the metallics is that this type of highlighting does not show very well. But overall I'm very satisfied with the result for my first real paint job in about 2 years.

The Squad

Meltabomber

Fire dragon. The one to the right was my first test mini and I was thinking red helms as well, but I ended up liking the orange/yellow helms better.

More Dragons, on the look out for tanks... >.>

The mighty Exarch.

The only real conversion I did to the Dragons was the addition of this fantasy cape to the Exarch. I clipped off his spare flamer tanks and some of his armor to make it fit, the idea was that he had slayed some dragon creature in the past and had a cloak of scales and a few teeth as a trophy. I think it turned out reasonably well!

Another angle.

And another.

Annnnd because i was bored last night, drew a little pic to go along with the Exarch. Yes, I'm aware he does not have legs. lol, I was lazy, so sue me. IMO the flame didn't come out quite like I wanted. I was going for a more white hot raging inferno, but I'm new to digital art so it turned out okay I guess.

Well, since I'm pulling my hair out trying to find the optimal way to paint yellow, I'm going back to the conversion table.

Since putting 10 Wraithguard into every army list I make isn't exactly ideal, i've been scratching my head to find other ways to make my Iyanden army seem a bit more... robotic. The idea being, nearly 1/3 to 1/2 of the fighting forces are made up of constructs guided by dead eldar. So i'm working on a few conversions involving Wraithguard to splice them into my army in new ways.

The first of which is replacing the gunner turret on the back of a Vyper with a Wraithguard. I brainstormed a few diffrent ways to do this but decided to try and sculpt 80% of the new gunner myself with Green Stuff. I'm already learned a few things, for one, using toothpicks and superglue is not the most stable frame to build on. Going forward I think i'll try to use wires for the "skeleton".

Here is where I am so far.

The concept sketch of what I have in mind.

Trying to see aprox how it will look, getting an idea for dimensions.

My "stickman" to get the length of the limbs and provide a skeleton to apply green stuff to.

On the Vyper.

Various parts being green stuffed. At this point I want to burn off my damn fingerprints so I wont impress them into the GS each time I touch it! You can also see off to the side that I decided to use the weapon mount from a plastic warwalker model as the right shoulderpad for the guard, so that way I can swap out what weapons he is holding without too much fuss. Clever right?

Should have more updates later today.

Test fitting of the weapon mount shoulder.

Another angle.

Some gimpy looking hands/arms.

An extended platform for the Guard to stand on. I added some oval thingies too it cause that make things look more eldar.

Summore parts added to the body, cable going from the spine to his weapon mount.

Feet made and standing on the platform. I'm going to do more work when this gs dries to beef out the ankles/legs.

And speaking of that stuff drying, while i'm waiting I decided to convert the cannon from another guard to a scatter laser, and I'm going to be using him as my Anti Grav Platform marker from now on. Assuming people don't complain and get scared cause there's a big hulking WraithGuard in my guardian squad.
