Brilliant...don't think I wanna know how you came across this method though

That's exactly what I was asking myself. I hope the author's some sort of food chemist and created this as a brain excercise. But it looks really cool! However, doesn't the primary paint wear off when you put it into the water?

He probably dropped his toast onto a model while painting it.

Acrylic which has properly cured and set is fairly waterproof though I would avoid scrubbing hard.

Yes.

It works with anything which will stick to the model, repel paint, and be washable off afterwards.

Marmite/Vegemite produces blobby areas of worn paint, while coarse sea salt produces irregular areas with sharper, squarer edges.

Stiff honey would work.

Rubber gum works too, you just have to actively peel it off.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Nutella or peanut butter would probably work.

Curses! How can you afford to waste good Marmite like that? It's so hard to find in the US. Still, interesting idea and really cool results.

Well, can't find this stuff at a local food store, but anyways..

How am I applying it? is it going to clump up like shown by itself on the foam? I love the effect but seems like it would be easy to mess up by adding too much...

If you add too much, just take it to the Sink, and wash off the Marmite before you paint a Second Layer. Then dry the Mini, and re-apply.

I hate Marmite - the smell literally makes me throw up - so I'll enquire whether Butter works. Or Ketchup.

[Edit: Neither of which I put on my toast, by the way!]

I use the liquid latex method myself. If applied with a green scrubby pad you can get alot more fine detail, although the marmite is a heck of alot easier to clean off. Funny and smart idea.

I've also been meaning to try the water soluable hairspray and rock salt method. You lightly spray it and apply coarse salt to it while wet. after airbrushing you just wash it all off. Upside is it apparently give very detailed look. Downside is you have to use the airbrush.

Does this method need airbrushing, or will painting by hand work too? I'm not brave enough yet to try out the whole airbrush thing.

I am not a wargamer, nor do I play one on television.

Actually found a place in Boston that sells the stuff. Do I have to call the bomb squad or something if I want to throw it away?

Two bomb squads, because when Marmite spreads to the first bomb squad, somebody has to remove them from the game!

But yeah. Best use of Marmite I've heard so far!
