Subject: Reverse US flags?

In America, police officers, security personnel and soldiers typically wear a US flag on the right shoulder of their uniform. It ussually appears to be a velcro or sewn on patch. For some reason this flag is a reverse image of the US flag (ie:the rectangular stars box is in the upper right hand corner as opposed to the left).
This is what I'm talking about:
Why is the flag reversed?

That link's pretty interesting, Malfred.
Someone once told me that it represented the stars (states) going first into battle.

I think the flag waving in the air makes more sense. It's like they're all standard
bearers and the flag flows as they move. Pretty cool, actually.

The stars bit is on the edge where the staff goes, on both faces of the flag. In the absence of a strong wind, the flag would trail the staff when moving so the stars would be at the leading edge. The right shoulder flag is the other face of the flag.

Aye, it's supposed to represent the flag 'going forward'.
