Hello all and welcome to Warhammer Sea Battles!

Get the feeling that Warhammer just needs something more? That it's missing something? Well so do we! Solution? Pull out the old General's Compendium from 2003 and start building your own sea board and ships! This log will chronicle our progress in both the Board and Boats.

Warhammer Sea Board: Start date 10/28/08. Estimated completion time 11/1/08

Boats: Ongoing progress, likely just a progress of my personal Dark Elf Fleet with random pics of generic, Empire, Orcs, Lizardmen, Vampire Counts, Wood Elves, and possibly Tomb Kings boats!

So to start you all off, a picture from yesterday and the beginnings of the board. We started with a 4x6 piece of plywood and painted it blue. Added some edging and you can see on the far end Styrofoam that's beginning to be crafted into a shoreline.

Today, deciding that we wanted a stronger bond that just wood glue, we screwed the 2x4s into the plywood base. Here's Brett being a badass and not caring about the sparks in his face from cutting off the excess screw

After gluing down the Styrofoam and wood base for the shoreline we used a fine ballast to cover all the land and into the sea a bit

We'll give you a little teaser for what the invading fleet will look like coming across the sea. These are going to be the "generic" boats for anyone who hasnt made their own to use. They are obviously a WIP

And finally we've got some blue ink and water mixing up nicely to be added to 56oz of glue tomorrow to be spread across the sea for a better water effect along with priming, painting, and flocking the ballast. (would have taken a picture, but my phone decided it didn't want to.... )

No worries, tomorrow I'll use a real camera for pictures. If anyone has any requests of what they're like to see better detail of, just say so and I'll have it up tomorrow night!

Great to see people are still using the brilliant General's Compendium. Look forward to seeing the boat's "take shape" as it were.

Well I'm extremely happy to see all the enthusiasm on this board!

For those interested, here are todays updates!

We got the shoreline painted, still waiting on the brown to finish drying to do the highlight and flock it

Here's a look at the somewhat vile mixture that is to be the ocean. 54oz of glue, touch of water, and a bunch of blue dye

THE APPLICATION! Ocean being poured out. We were afraid that there wasnt going to be enough, but with enough effort we were able to spread it out to cover it all.

And the finished water! Still wet, should hopefully be dry tomorrow? It's not a very thick layer so we're hoping. We'll give it a spray of gloss varnish to complete the effect

No boat updates today, tomorrow will be mainly focused on boats, so expect that. We'll also be finishing the land, and if all goes well and the water dries, it should be finished!!

Oh yes, and total cost of the project.....*drumroll*..... $12.20!!! Take THAT GW and your $290 dollar fancy plastic boards.

I spent three months building boats for my chaos warriors and beastmen and only used them in one battle. So, is your copy of the General's compendium still intact? Mine didn't survive one battle. You've done far more work than I did, your water table looks really great. I just used a blue sheet and some pre-flocked hills.

That sea effect looks beautiful ... are you going to be adding breakers or anything at the shoreline?

Thank you all for the enthusiasm,

@Warpcrafter - I'd love to see those boats! We're constantly looking for more ideas.

@Necroagogo - Currently the plan is to just finish up the land and call the board finished. We are going to make some rocks with water bases that we can place randomly each game
