Crazed Spirit of the Defiler

A few months ago, I created a blog about the beginnings of my CSM horde. Well, real life got in the way and I had to take some time off gaming doe to new job etc etc.

Now I have some time again, I have finished my Deathguard army ready for next Week's heat 2 UK GT... (will be taking all DG)

Now that the pressure if off for that one, I have decided to relinquish any ties to the foolish corpse emperor and dedicate myself fully to the true gods (ie only paint chaos from now on)

My immediate plans are:

Deathguard (pretty much done)
Word Bearers (1/4 done - using the SM codex)
Khorne assault
Renegades
possibly Slaanesh

This blog is basically going to be a long standing WIP post looking at the creating of these armies.

First off, Deathguard. This will be my GT list (say hi if you see me!) for next week's heat. It's pretty much finished although some models need a little work (non FW Pms, some other bits n pieces)

It consists of:

Demon Prince
Typhus
Squad Pestilenz (Terminators)
Squad Buboes (PM 1)
Squad Influenza (PM2)
Squad Entropy (PM 3)
Obliterator squad (plague Ogryns)

There are also another 3 oblits coming (6 isn't too much!)

Any C&C appreciated.

On a side note, the pics look awful and are dreadfully overexposed. I have an OK camera - what am I doing wrong?? Without the flash it looks too dark:(

Any tips?

I actually kinda agree... They didn't work as well as I'd hoped but they do look better in real life... As a whole army they look ok and I don't think I can be arsed to change them now!

Should get some Word Bearer stuff up later or this weekend.

I did some stuff ages ago however (in first blog) and this is what I have got so far:

Im ok with the colors on the nurgle models themselves. The thing that really throws me is the bright yellow lichen bush. Hopefully it's not that bright normally. Very nice technique and somber yet bright color schemes. I hate drab and somber ... figures like that seem to have no life. Your figs here are "dark" but very full of life and character.

Looking forward to more of your work,

Meph

The Nurgle models are wonderful. The only change I would make is to paint the rim of the bases in a darker color, maybe dark brown. The word bearers are really impressive, especially the Brass Scorpion.

Wow, very nice jobs dude.

Your word bearers are very impressive.

I have one suggestion that I used on my death guard.

Don't use green for your base edging, use a neutral colour, I find Khemri Brown/Graeyard Earth looks great and really makes the Models paint jobs look better!

try it on 5-10, and see what I mean, if you don't like it its easy to change back, but it works

I really love that Nurgle Prince. And the scorpion defiler is awesome too. Nice job

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

How much did you paint after you dipped them?

Or did you finish the models and then dipped them?

I love the scrollwork on the defiler legs, awesome. I am also very impressed with your painting skills, and your choice of colors for the pm. All too often I see the same green color scheme, Bravo!

The overall effect is, honestly, chaotic. I've found the passage "riot of colour" used dozens of times in the various 40k novels, and this army fits that bill. Each model makes sense and looks nice, and put together it makes for an almost unsettling feeling. Well done!

Also, your Defiler is the win, especially with the script across his armor plates.

Don't use flash

Taking good pics of minis requires good light, best would be indirect sunlight, but you can make do with lamps using daylight bulbs or filters.

Very nice stuff there.
The DG looks like pure win. I especially like the yellowish/ orange color on those typhus-"exhaust" pipes.

Very colorful, but it works really well.

I like Word Bearers even more though, especially the scorpion will all that scroll-work on it. Very nice touch.

Slowest updated WIP ever I'm afraid. New job, borked camera and no time means I will be updating as and when I can

My Deathguard are now totally finished (bar maybe a landraider at a later date) and did ok in my first GT. Won my first game with a massacre and ended up on table 2 which didnt go quite so well vs twin seer council on bikes. Great weekend though..

Currently, I am painting up a 1500 point World Eater army for this year's round of tournaments. I have been playing with it for a while and it's enjoyed good success so far and won all 12 games.

All I have painted so far is 1 unit of Berserkers. Still need to do :
2 more units of zerkers
Champions (based on lord models)
3 Landraiders
FW terminators
Kharn

Then it will be moving onto finishing my Word Bearers.

Will post more pics when I have more stuff done... Everything is primed and ready to go.

In continuance of the tradition of the slowest updated WiP ever, I am adding some more pics.. Apologies if they're reposts...

Deathguard is nearly all rebased off the orrible yellowy ones and the same as berserker bases.

One day I will actually get some organised pics sorted!
