Lets start by saying that the chaos space marine codex is BORING! But, adding a theme can make even a boring codex army much more enjoyable to play as. I've stripped my chaos army and begun to repaint them in a Thousand Sons motif.

I'm not doing a pure Thousand Sons force simply because i like to have some variation in units. The Sorcerer which leads this army has managed to draw new recruits to sway to the ways of Tzeentch, the changer of ways, and thus ill be using regular chaos space marines along with my actual thousand sons.

This is my first army, so don't expect brilliant work but I've tried my best and overall am satisfied with the results so far.

Now notice that the icon bearer does not have an icon top yet! That's still in the works, but will be put on him shortly, as well as his brother marine's bolter.

Also, in the background, those are not chaos spawn! They are my more Tzeentchy version of Obliterators made by greenstuffing some heavy weapons onto spawn. I cant stand the normal obliterator model, so this is what I've done.

I have about 10 other marines painted, but my camera lacks a macro setting and taking pictures with decent focus is proving difficult. I'll try and improve on that with future posts!

Any feedback or comments are welcome!

I may have to steal that Spawnbliterator idea from you...

They look more mutated and warped than most marines; very Tzeentchian, although not as pure "Thousand Sons Legion."

The Oblits could maybe use some more weapons, and/or some armor, or mutated carapace. They don't really look the 2+ save.

Love the colors.

The Emperor doesn't seem to do much for you but you sure are expected to be mutilated, suffer, and die to make him happy. And is he dead or what? If he's entombed that would mean he's dead as a doornail, right? So, how can he be happy about anything you do, or even give orders to anyone? Are you worshipping the dead now? Is that something you'd really want to do? Because it sounds freaking creepy to me.

I thought about putting armor on the obliterators but I am not too good at sculpting, granted it would not be hard to retrofit them with some armor plates at some point in the future as I get better. I'll take pictures of some of the Horrors I've painted so far next.

Also any tips on basing?

For basing...

Sand? Maybe a weird colored sand, like dark purple or something.

If you were feeling ambitious you could do lava terrain, but make the lava a different color than usual. That would be pretty cool.

Here are a few horrors I've painted. I also have a Daemons army simply to play fantasy and 40k with, but my Thousand Sons' Sorcerer likes to call to the Empyrean for aid. I don't play apocalypse often, but its really fun to combine the daemons with the marines in it.

And here is an actual chaos spawn in the event that a gift of chaos or boon of mutation goes off on some unlucky space marine.

A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER!

I wouldn't say Thousand Sons, but definetely Tzeentch worshipers. The Spawn in particular.

well I'm thinking more along the lines of a rogue cabal of Sorcerers, or maybe just a lone thousand son sorcerer and his retinues of actual thousand sons (i have the models but im saving them to paint for last since i want to improve my skills on the regular space marines) out ravaging the galaxy doing their lore scouring thing. It's probably a pain in the butt to keep all those automaton thousand sons in good fighting order so my cabal has recruited tzeentch worshipers.

My own little happy place

They look good but remember Thousand Sons don't have any flesh what so ever they're just souls trapped in there armor

I tried being normal but it's boring so now I'm back to being insane

That's one heck of a great start. I really dig all of the bright colors and variation.

This should be great to watch.

Ditto what grey_death said. Those pinks/purples and deep/light blues wil llook super when you get them based and on a table.

Flaminggaunt - my regular / mutated chaos space marines are more to represent tzeentch cultist space marines more so than the actual thousand sons that rule over my army / cabal.

I'll get to all the actual thousand sons at the end.

I've been sick all weekend and havent really felt like painting much.
I did however begin work on a Terminator lord and a few more regular CSM. I'll try and have pictures posted sunday or monday!

OK, though i was sick this weekend, i did manage to get my Terminator Lord painted up. I still have to do his base and his gun but i figured id post the work in progress to keep this thing moving along and to motivate me to finish him up.

I'm liking his sword and the painting on the fur. As the Lord(and Master ... Kudos if you know what I'm talking about) and center of the army, I think he needs a little more definition between the colors. I know your not done yet, so this may already be in your plan. Maybe some blacklining between the blues and purples, and some highlights on the gold. For some reason he is just kind of blening all the colors together at a glance. (maybe that is cahos influence at work on my mind though ... argh .. the interweb has infected my brain with chaos!)

Anyway, looking good!

So far I'm agreeing with Meph on all points. Though, some more of the nice transition on the sword around the rest of the model would be a nice addition, as some of the blue areas look a bit splotchy with uneven coverage.
