I LOVE the idea of a bunch of overgunned gitz just looking for some umies to use as targets. Probably because some of my first games of 40K involved RT orks, and their uber multi-barreled kustom shooters. So I've been meaning to make some Flash Gitz for several years now. The rules in 4th edition didn't thrill me much, but in 5th they seem to be much better. Nob stats, tons of dakka, variable ap, 'eavy armor, what's not to love? (Other than the cost smilingOrk.gif )

Anyway, here's my first attempt at modeling some of this over gunned nutterz. Basically I started with the nobz from the AoBR box, and added a ton of shootaz I had lying around from my boyz, plus some beakie, old skool shootaz, and some plastic card for additional 'eavy armor. They're pretty much done, other than the last guy, who I just discovered needs to be armored a bit more.

Questions and comments are welcome.

Sure, feel free to ask away.

Thanks! I've got a freebootas theme to the army as it stands, some flash gitz are exactly what the doctor ordered. I've been thinking about trying to free hand a pirate hat on one of them.

It's conversions like these that make me consider starting an ork army.

They're pieces of styrene. You can usually find it in art stores, railroad suppliers, etc. In most cases I took a smaller piece, and then attached a larger diameter piece to make the flash suppressor. I cut the tubes with a tube cutter like this Pipe Cutter. Using one makes for much squarer cuts.

According to most people. I always thought that it was a sort of catapult/trebucket sort of thing. Most people seem to think that it's more of a cannon/direct fire sort of thingie. Regardless, it's now on there like a f'in weld, so it's not going to change.....

It's never too late. It's also a huge bang for the buck!

Fixed your typo

Good work. I dig the extra armor, my only complaint would be that they all carry them one-handed.

The guns look nice.

The poses need some help (which is difficult considering it's AoBR).

Flash gitz don't have close combat weapons of any sort.

This makes me want to try doing the same thing though . . .

Okay, I've taken some thought about the feedback, and how the gitz need to evolve to reach the next level of dakka. So I've added shoulder buttz to all the gunz, made some modifications to make the gunz look more bolted together, and up armored the remaining git.

First up, I've added some model wire around this gitz gun, and a new shoulder butt.

I've added a shoulder butt to this one, and added some straps, which are made of slips of paper that I've attached using watered down pva glue.

I've up-armored this git, added some ammo clips down the shoulders, removed the old gun butt, and added a new longer one, and add some more paper straps.

I've added a butt to this one's gun, other than that, he's perfect! Somebody asked earlier about the string around this one's gun, hopefully it's a bit clearer on this shot, if not I'm going to have to do some stuff to pick it out a bit during painting.

I'm going to give some thought to Git Finders, but 2 of the models a sight, and there's a git with a bionic eye, and the rest still have iron sights. I might try free handing another bionic eye on one of the remaining gitz. Next up is painting.

Yes, and to do a "good" job would require some resculpting, which I might consider if I do another batch of 5.

Maybe, maybe not, do you REALLY think that an ork would go into war without some sort of choppa? They're not listed as having anything, but they really don't list anything that doesn't have a direct game effect. Honestly, they're probably BETTER in close combat than in a fire-fight, and this will remind me to have them charge some poor SOB. OTOH, removing the choppas might make this more surprising....

Thanks, that's a huge compliment.

To be fair, the Badrukk model has a chainswordish weapon, so I guess it doesn't matter.

If you're spending that much time with them, maybe try to at least convert the weapons a bit.

when it comes to conversions and asking for C&C.... remember that these are YOUR minis. you have to look at them when you play. Ill get good ideas from people, doesnt mean im going to change the mini. so if you like the CC weapon on there, well keep it on. I have a post shwoing a heavy bolter SM i converted that has a chainsword on the barrel like a bayonet from hell. its not practical but i dont care it looks awesome.
ANYWHO personally i dont like flash gitz mainly because of the cost. but those conversions you did are supreme. enough so i may one day give into temptation and make some. nice job! also i think the butt stocks look better on them

Nice work! These are looking really nice, an they certainly feel very 'flashy'. My only bit to add is that I think the way the guns are being supported needs a little work. They look really front-heavy, and difficult to lift or aim. Perhaps if you added a shoulder chain to the weapon and have it going over the nobz' shoulder, it would alleviate the look of some of the front-heaviness, as well as being more visually interesting.

Oh, exactly. OTOH it's probably a good idea to adjust to something when everybody and his brother is mentioning.

Thanks! I'm wondering if I can get them to make up some of that cost. FWIW, Orks aren't an army that has to scrimp for points, so a couple of point sinks isn't a bad thing, particular if they've got a good chance of being useful.

That's an excellent suggestion, but I just primed them. We'll see what happens with the next lot.

I'm not recasting anything, this is all original GW plastics.

My apologies, just some ofthe white pieces with the spots looked like they had been cast or something.. are those primered models from something else then?

I like the added shoulder stocks to the gunz, imo they make the models look alot better.

I'm not sure, one of the local hobby stores, it's been in the bitz box for a while. You can usually order or get this sort of thing from anyplace that stocks styrene or plasticard.

Lint wrote:I like the added shoulder stocks to the gunz, imo they make the models look alot better.

Yes, it definitely helps with the visual "balance" issues that are introduced with the longer barrels.
