So here's what I think I'm shooting for for my skink army at this point anyway.. by the time I finish those core troops the new army book will be out :( I want to try and keep the army at 1000 pts, this will just be for small & fun games and for a fun modeling/painting project.

It is actually pretty effective at ranged combat, but you are pretty well hosed if good cavalry reaches you. Having only 1 CC unit could be a serious problem.

That's what I was thinking too.. but with skinks alone, there's not much you can do for CC anyway :( If I ever do expand to 1000 pts I'll be able to fit in more stegadons and we'll see how the new rules go.

So my plan will be to try and play keep-away as much as I can and shoot stuff to bits

Just a thought but you could have more CC units and even some cavalary and imo better ranged units if you switched to a southlands list!

Well I'm just going to start building the regular skinks and by the time I finish them the new rules will be out so we'll see what kind of other new units there are.

I heard they will allow you to have ranked units of skinks in the new book but I kind of felt they would be too weak to do well in close combat so I figured I'd better just work toward a list like this and get a few games in when the book comes out.

Tweaked a bit dropped some chameleons and the extra junk the priest won't need and gave him an extra scroll and had enough pts for an extra blowpipe unit.. or I guess I could make them javelins instead... I could drop a model from the 12 skink unit and get enough pts for a basic scar vet as a leader, but I figured i'd keep the chief in one of the javelin units and hide the priest someplace out of the way.. then I can keep the all skink theme

so here's the new list

Cavalry is a pain yes, but remember you can march block them with the terradons by landing behind them and your ability to ALWAYS march with the skinks means for sacking off one or two units the rest of the force can then run circles around the enemy. It's the same with solid blocks at 1k pts. In these sized battles more then larger ones it is all about mobility and not making mistakes. The list looks good, though you could drop the Stegadon and even the terradons and just max out on poisoned attacking skinks in core an extra 340 pts of skinik skirmishes can be devastating at this level, give it a try and see how you like it.

you cannot always march with skinks. in 7th ed the rules for skirmishers always being able to move double was taken out in an attempt ti simplify the rules for movement. dumb. it made skinks a little less useful. I would drop the stegadon for salamanders. much better unit in my experience. Also, i know it doesn't go with the theme of the list, but take a scare vet to give you a little hitting power

I am a Utah man sir, I live across the green, our gang is the jolliest that you have ever seen, Our co-eds are the fairest, ans each one's a shining star, our yell you'l hear it ringing through the mountains near and far.
Who am I sir? a UTAH MAN am I. A UTAH MAN sir, I will be till I die.

KI-YI

Were up to snuff, we never bluff were game for any fuss, no other gang of college men dare meet us in the MUSS. So fill your lungs and sing it out and shout it to the sky, we'll fight for dear old Crimson for a UTAH MAN AM I!!

GO UTES!!!!
