Back in the early 90's, when I started playing 40k, I had a Salamander army. Since all the Salamanders pictured in the GW art back then were white, my unhelmeted Salamanders were white. I then proceeded later on to give them a Persian flavor, with the Terminators being Immortals, Persian names for squads, etc. In third edition, Salamanders became "sturdy" meaning they had an initiative 3 and could have an extra turn of getting the crap getting kicked out of them if wished.
It was about that point I got into running DE, Chaos, and Necrons and I haven't looked at running marines again until recently. This time, I'm making my own generic chapter, the Griffons Rampant, using the chapter's worth of Howling Griffon decals I dug out so the fluff of my army won't change unless I want it to.

Has anyone here a similar story?

Yeah, my Ultramarines used to be a 3rd Founding Chapter with a half-eldar chief librarian, living on a desert planet covered with dust oceans and dustr krill, crawling with ambulls. Marneus Calgar was a quadruple-amputee who hadn't seen combat in years, and we needed the help of the White Scars and the Dark Angels to beat Hive Fleet Behemoth. GW changed all that.

What did I do about it? Um, I wrote a post here at Dakka.

"Calgar hates Tyranids."

Most of the fluff for Ork Clans disappeared in 3rd edition together with Weird Boyz and Boar Boyz, but it's starting to come back now. Certain types of Oddboyz used to be more prevalent in different clans too i.e.

Goffs - Nobz and Skarboyz
Bad Moons - Weirdboyz
Evil Sunz - Meks
Death Skulls - Mad Doks
Snake Bites - Runtherds

It's not really an issue for me, as I steer my army selection towards the right kind of Oddboyz. For example, my Goffs have loads of Nobs, some of which I've left vanilla (no extra equipment) to act as Skarboyz. If I did a Bad Moon army, there would definitely be a Weirdboy in there somewhere.

I know they abandoned this fluff so that players wouldn't feel pidgeon-holed, but I still like making a nod to it to show I was around in those days. Ah nostalgia

Cyboars were kind of neat.
They fit into 40K better than regular boars.

The Emperor doesn't seem to do much for you but you sure are expected to be mutilated, suffer, and die to make him happy. And is he dead or what? If he's entombed that would mean he's dead as a doornail, right? So, how can he be happy about anything you do, or even give orders to anyone? Are you worshipping the dead now? Is that something you'd really want to do? Because it sounds freaking creepy to me.

That's why I made my own chapter.

One means the Mechanicum truly loses their gak, and the other means the Eldar realize that Vaul is really a toaster and experience religion fail.
Techmarine Mario and Brother Adept Luigi to the rescue !
I think it is a small fraction of Jesus worshiping Christians who have psychic powers.
