I'm taking a break from my Tyranids and getting to work on some Orks. First up are 9 Deffkoptas from the AOBR set.

The first thing I wanted to fix were the weapons. All of the AOBR Deffkoptas come with twin linked rokkits and I wanted a little more flexibility, so I used a razor saw to cut to the top two rokkits off 6 of the Deffkoptas and then used a pin vise with a 1/32" bit to drill a hole into each rokkit stub. A matching size rare earth magnet went into each hole. This will allow me to swap out rokkits for big shootas or even buzz saws. Another rare earth magnet was glued into a hole under the rear rotor to hold a bomb.

And the results after some initial basecoats. The dags will get painted after I wash the entire figure in Paynes Grey

I'm keeping a log of time for each step which will be posted later as a full "How to"

Very cool - I like it.

I'm a big fan of the rare earth magnets!

Cheers

The Marines? I have those too. Tyranids and Orks first though.

I think he meant the 'You Build Da Kopta' compo....

Are you doing extended Barrels for the Twin Linked 'Eavy Shootas? Would look better if you did in my opinion.

Ah, to be perfectly honest, I didn't want to sign up for another deadline, though if I can cobble together some weapons in the next day or so, I might submit it anyways.

I'm thinking more of stubby barrels as I'm not sure I like the look of really long ones, but the advantage of magnets means I can try one option and if I don't like it, I'll change it out.

Picking out some details. At this point, they're fully table top ready (2 done, 7 more to finish) and additional details will get picked out, but are lesser priority than the 70 Orks on my desk.
