OK so, not satisfied with the idea of having multiple logs im gonna combine everything into one. As my templars have been shelved in favor of the to hard to resist 5th ed marine dex and some commision work that has fallen into my lap I have ALOT of work ahead of me. So, first off lets get to the outline.
Marines
- working towards 2000+ points. Ive have exactly 1k points assembled and ready for paint. Still soul searching for a chapter and paint scheme but i may have stumbled onto something.
Black legion (his army)
-His army is almost complete. I will be documenting the assembly of 40 CSM with two rhinos (w/ FW doors), and a Chaos terminator lord. All of this interspersed with the cleaning, assembly, chaosification and subsequent painting of a custom Warhound titan.
And finally for the nostalgic gamer in me ill be throwing together two Flames of War british armies. The first being a Churchill Tank squadron supported by a rifle company, and the second (using most of the models from the first list) will be a straight rifle company.
I paint when i can (and when my 11 month old lets me) and im in no real rush so im not too concerned with quality. My goal is to shoot for a slightly better than table top scheme. SO without more babbling one to the pictures
First off two of my WIP Salamanders. A Captain and Marine. I may use the captain as a squad sergeant (i seem to have an abundance of "captain" models".
Next is my Chaos lord, almost done except the base. as you can see im going for a purple glow on my power weapons instead of the blue most people use. This guy has since been sold and ive moved onto nids.
And for now ill leave you with my WIP FOW Britains
My Churchill- i need to hit it with some matte sealer and get some decals.
And my far from finished Rifle platoon
Keep me motivated people! I tend to do some work and not post pictures so i may need a friendly reminder My next round of pictures should have some shots of the titan!

Ok, heres some new updates. Didnt get any pics of the titan in progress as its out in my shed right now and it was pretty rainy last night, plus i got caught up in painting so those will have to wait. so onto the pictures
Heres my two chaplains for the salamanders. I had these guys pretty much done in a templar scheme so i just strategically painted some green on to finish them up and make them salies.
And heres some more of my british rifle platoon. the stand with the bushes was previously finished and i just need to add bushes to the remaining two and grass to all three
Independant teams w. HQ
and just the two i painted last night
Due to the holiday (and no internet at my home) my next update wont be till monday so stay tuned, i hope to have quite a bit more done!

OK after a busy holiday season its back to the grind. As promised ive got loads of pictures (to show ive at least done SOMETHING) I tend to do a little work on something and then move on to another project, rarely will I finish a project straight through. It keeps things interesting so what i have for this update is a bunch of WIPS.
First some of my salamanders
My WIP Captain in Terminator armor. Hes been salvaged from my templars into a new life of fire and promethium
Brother Mannik
Somthing i figured I could use as an Objective marker. A clutch of "Salamander/Fire Drake" eggs
Heres some of the Chaos im assembling for a buddy of mine. The only part of the army that I will be painting is the titan.
Chaos Lord
Chaos squad with Rhino sporting FW black legion doors
Big Daddy. A major part of this log will be the assembly, chaosification and painting of this custom warhound
And Lastly my FOW.
Heres some of my WIP Churchills. The two on the outside are Churchill VI's, the unprimed one is a Churchill VII and the primed one in the center is a Churchill IV. The differences are subtle but in game terms theres a huge armor difference between the VII's and the rest.
Heres a side shot of the WIP Churchill VI
And finally another stand of rifle infantry.
Heres my Rifle Company HQ. They came with a mortar option but i doubt ill use em much.
for my FOW i still need to add bushes, grass and hit them with matte sealer. So far I only have 600 pts of british which is enough for small games but its getting bigger.
For my sally's ive got about 1500 pts worth. 3 tactical squads, 2 assault squads, 2 assault terminator squads, 3 HQ options and the dreadnaught.
Im hoping to have a painting session this week with the guy that got me into FOW so i should have some more updates by then.
Stay tuned!

The winds of change have once again gripped my ADD. Thankfully not in the middle of a large amy build (which tends to be the case). In this case I revist my old tyranid army. I scrounged around in my bits box to see what i could find and lo and behold I found 2 spore mines, some rippers and enough parts to kitbash a tyranid warrior (however i dont intend to use him in his current configuration, hes just a test mini). So then my dilemma was to come up with a paint scheme. My previous excursion with nids was rather tedious and time consuming as my paint scheme was pretty involved.
As all horde army players know painting all those troops can get really boring really quickly. My intention was to find a super quick, super easy scheme that gave me a colored army on the table in very little time. I also wanted to stay away from dipping (messy, too thick and takes too long to dry)so, enter the GW washes. I really wanted to push the limit on just how easy i could make a paint scheme without it looking sub par. After testing different combinations on different pieces I finally settled on a suitable scheme that fits all my criteria. Keep in mind the following pictures show my final scheme in a test phase. I dont plan on winning any awards and its doubtful they will ever even be in any sort of competition (even on the local level) but i think the end result combined with the ease of implementation and fast turn over time come together really well
The models were primed white and then the armor and claws were base coated in space wolf grey. The chittin was then washed with gryphonne sepia and then the armor and claws washed with badab black. All these took me less than an hour and half from start to finish.
Again these were test minis so they arent as "clean" as the final minis will be. Also with the larger gribblies (carnifex, tyrant etc) i will go in and pick out the teeth
Well... what do you guys think?

Got another gribbly in the mail over the weekend so I set to work on him. The base isnt done because i need to get some static grass. Once that gets here I will just do a base-a-thon on everything that needs it. As with my test nids, its just sepia wash over white primer and the armor and claws are badab wash over space wolf grey. I did go in and pick out the flesh hook claws to make em stand out and i washed the feeder tendrils with ogryn flesh.
Ive got alot of stuff in the mail so stay tuned for more updates!

Well in my never ending quest at having a "painted" army in as little time as possible i decided to try my "just wash it" technique on marines. ive seen it done before with the sepia (deathwing anyone?) but i wanted something a little darker, and something that wouldnt look the same as my nids. So in a fit of ADD last night i primed up 5 marines and set to it and heres the result. Of course the camera expands upon the "bad" parts or things like over wash and what not but from a table top hight they look very cohesive and very passable.
what do you guys think?
Im rather pleased with the result however I dont know of any chapter that resembles this scheme so I want to ask you all what should I name them? I was thinking something like the Emperors fists or Fists of Dorn that way i could use imperial fist iconography. Or if anyone knows of a chapter that they look like id appreciate it.

Update time!
Thanks to the "just wash it" method I find myself able to crank out fairly large chunks of models in little time which makes me very happy ( i may just meet my "will not play unless everything is painted" goal. All the nids in this update took me approx two hours and the marines about an hour and a half thanks to the sargent. so on to the pics
First I finished the rest of the AOBR tac squad (aside from basing and iconagraphy). They will be Alpha squad with a gothic 1 squad marking. I havnt decided whether to put the numeral on the front of their shoulder pad or on one of their knees with a black background.
And the whole squad
My WIP Dread "Brother Malik"
Thanks to some help ive decided to give my chapter the name "Sand Jackals". Ive also decided to base them the same as my nids (brown dirt with static grass) which will match the table im in the designing stages of building. My theme is simple. My hive fleet is invading the planet my marines are on. Cheesy yes but easily accomplished.
..and now the gribblies!!
Two tyrant guard (still need the tyrant >.< )
Ravener
And lastly one of my favorites, big daddy the carnifex
Thats all for now. Ive got alot more nids and marines in the pipeline so stay tuned!!

They look great. I'm looking to do something similar with my nids. Is that carnifex just one wash over white primer? The depth of shading in the recesses looks really good.

I think you made the right call to switch off of salamanders onto your sand jackals. Easily tabletop quality in a very small amount of time. Stick to the techniques you are using. They are working. I would love to see an update soon with finished bases on that tactical squad.
The tyranids transcend table top quality. Those models take the citadel washes better than almost anything else GW makes. Keep doing what you are doing on them as well. It is definitely working!
good job. Go forth and paint!

Small update of sorts. I knocked out some WIP test minis for my gaunts and genestealers. some areas will need a heavier wash but for the most part this is what they will look like. Ill probably go back in and pick out their teeth on the final models.
I also did the basing on two of the bugs to see how it will work out and im very satisfied with the result. Quick and easy is my moto. The white rim on the ravener will be painted black, i just hadnt gotten to it yet)
And started basing my FOW brits
thats it for now. stay tuned...

Small update time
Boy Ive been on a 'nid kick lately. I really should start working on my other projects but nids just look so cool lol. Anyway first up is a shot of my current fex and lictor. A prize goes to the first one to find what ive added to them.
Next up are two of newest editions to the fleet( WIP of course).
First is a screamer killer.
I Modified him a bit to make him stand taller than a normal fex
Next is a sniper fex. I could have converted him to have a weapon on either side but i kinda like the guns to one side look.
I havnt forgotten my other projects, i should have an update on the titan by this weekend, and I intend to attack my FOW sometime this week.
Stay tuned!

Wow, I'm amazed at how well the sepia wash goes over the white undercoat! I may just have to try that on a couple of my models.
Also, I like the red you added to the Lictor and Fex. Though it too could probably use a wash of something, maybe devlan mud?

I absolutely love that Tyranid scheme. Those colours go so well together, and it looks like it was incredibly simple to achieve, but still looks fantastic. Those washes are amazing
I agree with Tzeentchling though, the red bits could use a coat of wash (but then again, doesn't everything? ).
